  1. Tochiro. Looking forward to your review of that upcoming concert. I'm curious about this comment: Can you expand a bit on this? Are you saying anime fandom is becoming less popular in the west? That's interesting. I have also heard similar things from some friends of mine. But if the attendance of our Anime Expo here California is anything to go by, it sure doesn't seem like it Over 40,000 people attended the expo.
  2. Thanks Marzan. Yeah you have a good point. Well, let's hope they will somehow make it out to Europe someday for an anime event so that you get a chance to meet them
  3. Was watching CNN this morning and saw a commercial from some company called Money Making Machine Funds or something along those lines. Anyway It showed her among a crowd of business folks on a busy New York sidewalk street, then a bus drove by, drove over a huge puddle of water, splashed everyone on the sidewalk except Mari, then Mari looked around, cracked a small smile and proceeded to cross the street. I am 100% sure it was her and am quite sure this is a fairly new TV commercial. Was quite surprised. Didn't know she was trying to get into acting in TV commercials. Pretty cool. Anyone else seen it? Maybe there's a Youtube link somewhere.
  4. Exactly. Tochiro, that wasn't a rant at all. That was in fact THE best concert review I have ever read on any forum, PERIOD. Excellent job man Tochiro are you native Japanese? If not, what ethnicity are you? I assume you speak fluent Japanese, and know your way around Japan? It must be pretty awesome living there bro. I honestly would have seriously considered giving the middle finger to my job and go to Japan for the concert if I had known it would be THAT awesome. But not knowing Japanese at all and having never been there before, it would have definitely been a disadvantage to say the least That is why they need to hold a Macross event of this magnitude in the US. Do it at the Anime Expo or Comic Con at least! It's just not fair that the rest of us missed out I *WILL* say however, that I have been fortunate enough to meet several Macross people when they attended Anime Expo a few years ago. I was EXTREMELY lucky to meet Yoko Kanno when she attended AX back in I think '99. Got home video footage of her sitting down and talking to a roundtable of guests at the meet the guests reception, and then was able to attend her live piano concert recital the next day. That was also the same weekend Mari Ijima attended AX, and I was lucky enough to meet her and got home videos of her chatting with fans at her Guests of Honor Panel, as well as her AX concert which was amazing! Saw her again at the Genghis Khan restaurant a couple weeks later too! I also met the Japanese VA's for Myung and Isamu at Anime Expo....forgot what year it was, 2000 I think. Met Hikariku Mikimoto(sp?) the following year I think it was, and then met Shoji Kawamori during his AX visit as well where he signed my Macross TV series dvd box set. All of these guests are on home video too so I will cherish this footage for life! Lots of good times So yeah, I've been fortunate enough to meet several people in the macross universe so it isn't all that bad. But going to that concert would have definitely topped all those things IMHO.
  5. Yeah, they need to release it on dvd. I don't know why these companies don't release these events on dvd, what the hell!
  6. Tochiro, you are honestly the luckiest person I have ever met on a forum. Damn man, will anything else in your life top this? I know it wouldn't for me. The fact that Hiroko Kasahara was there and sang Mouichido Love You....UN-FRIKKIN-BELIEVABLE!!!!! Plus Tomo Sakurai? I've always had a crush on her! How did she look? What's she been up to lately? I would have given anything to be there. Dammit Dammit Dammit!!!! Why do these once in a life time events happen only in Japan? It's a shame. C'mon Bandai and Macross musicians....COME TO THE US FOR ONCE!!!!!!
  7. Ahh I see. Heh, isn't it funny...Mari wrote and composed what I consider one of the absolute best songs in the entire Macross universe, yet her other original non Macross songs don't even come close to Angel's Paint IMHO.
  8. absolutely terrible. does anyone happen to know if he also composed the music for An Angel's Paint? Or was that done by someone else?
  9. I have the Turn A Gundam soundtrack+DVD Concert and yeah it really is good. But is the anime really that good? Cuz I hear it kinda sucks.
  10. Good post Elektrix and after giving it some more thought I'd have to say your absolutely correct
  11. which one is that? Link? Also, why do you suppose they didn't hire Hiroko Kasahara to sing more songs on either Mac7 or Mac+? She has a spellbounding voice! edit : nevermind found it. It's the OP
  12. I would have loved to have seen her perform "Moon" live in concert Damn, I wish they'd release it on dvd already
  13. Haha, that's a good theory. By the way, I really really really R*E*A*L*L*Y love the ending theme to Gasaraki... ....It appears the song is called Love Song but does anyone know who sings it? I heard through the grapevine that this song is somehow related to Yoko Kanno. I don't know what that means, but perhaps someone else can expand on that theory? Did she write the song? Was anyone that worked on Macross Plus involved with the song?
  14. I figured it was. But damn, that's crazy. She really has a great voice and don't see why she doesn't sing more often. Both of those songs are amazing during the parts where she sings. Santi-U is just...HAUNTING! It's as if she sounds almost....possessed(in a good way of course). She really went to a dark place with that song. Has she ever explained why she used the GR alias in the first place? Do you supposed she was, I dunno, ashamed of her voice or somthing?
  15. Seriously.... is there another soundtrack she's done that has such a varying and unique sound like Macross Pluss? I'm sorry but In my opinion there hasn't been any other soundtrack like Mac+. It's just too amazing for words. There isn't ONE bad track on that album! They're all pretty much flawless IMHO. Sure Cowboy Bebop and Escaflowne are classics, and Stand Alone Complex is great too, but in my opinion they don't touch the brilliance of Mac+. It's as if YK was determined to make her mark as a legendary anime composer when she did M+. Almost as if she walked into the room and said "Let me show you what I got", and proceeded to simply OBLITERATE everything else out there! This soundtrack has a style, elegance and sound of its own that I don't will ever be reached by anything else. Just my $0.02 of course
  16. The women singing at the end of After in the Dark and at the beginning of Santi-U sounds a lot like it coiuld be Yoko Kanno herslef. Is she the one singing on those songs?
  17. I haven't listened to my Macross song collection soundtrack in AGES so I popped it in and remembered how amazing the songs from Macross were. But what was even more amazing was how I had forgotten how incredible the songs from Macross II are. Are you kidding me? Mari Ijima's songs from DYRL are incredible no doubt....but Hiroko Kasahara's songs from Macross II are nothing short of MAGNIFICANT!!!!!! I can't believe how how little attaention Macross II's soundtrack gets. It's way way waaaaaay underrated, and is better than even some of Yoko Kanno's sountracks.
  18. Damn you guys for living in Japan! Damn it all! DVD pretty please with cherries on top ?
  19. Words simply cannot describe how sad I am that I missed this concert. I am close to tears after reading these impressions. I'm dead serious when I say I would literally pay $500 US dollars for a good quality dvd of the concert. If whichever company/studio that was in charge of this concert doesn't release a dvd I will hate them for life!
  20. Damn I was reading this thread not realizing it was from 2006
  21. Please....for the love of God.....release this on DVD!!!!!!!!!!!! I hate hearing about these awesome concerts and not being able to go, let alone see them on dvd
  22. Hmmm.... how would the PE dvd look on one of those new Toshiba Super Upconversion players coming out?
