  1. People aren't throwing insults at each other yet, let's keep it that way so that it doesn't get locked.
  2. I don't agree that all animes go loli, we can't generalize all animations. But we do have Klan Klan in Macross F, I bet they wouldn't have thought of that clever "genetic defect" if there was no loli trend at all. She is even animated in a funny manner (childish) when she's in micronized form, as opposed to her mature demeanor when she's in macronized form. As for Ranka, I just think they wanted to establish two stars who are quite different from each other, who have their own set of fans, so they made the two look and act very different from each other. So since one is a hot girl, the other one is a... childish looking girl. One is tough, currently being broken down, the other is childish, currently getting stronger. Also, I don't buy the ages of the characters as a proof that this or that character is not loli. Let's remind ourselves that behind the animation are animators who declare the ages of the characters. For all we know, Ranka was really meant to appeal to loli fans with her cuteness, her cute phone, her cute bag, her cute room, her innocent demeanor, her immature body (plastered half-naked on the side of a war ship at that), but then, the animators suddenly say, "Let's tell them she's 16." But well, as some others have mentioned here, it might be just the culture of Japan since they have a young age of consent, so we're viewing this phenomenon as outsiders and don't understand it as well as if we know Japanese culture.
  3. Well since people are already talking about it and its possible significance to the story, I suppose some people just want to get their hands on it I suggest to those who abstain to just read the lyrics: By Atashi: I can’t recall the beginning of my journey anymore When I noticed it, I was here The seasons tear apart and my eyes that feel The infrared rays becomes a lost child It was my desperate wish to lose my acceleration I fell in love as if it’s war, I chased my dreams earnestly I wanted to land on your planet, I wanted to fly through your space Won’t someone please softly stroke the outline of the void? The words of love that couldn’t be saved were erased by the waves of time So I want the answer once more Crucified by fate, the Northern Star is burning I scratched you out and made you a cloudy blur But still, I once loved how you laughed sweetly I scratched you out and made you a cloudy blur But still, I once loved how you laughed sweetly Because there will be no meaning if you are gone So all people should go away Because I don’t even need my heart when there is no love So this world, too- Go away Our desperate meetings were always painful I dreamed as if I could reach you, I reached out my hands recklessly I wanted to open up to your heart, I wanted to build a rainbow bridge with you Won’t someone please embrace me suddenly with the appreciation of daybreak? Splattered by the drive of dreams, the tears of love merely scatter Even if the pain is bare, I’m fine with it Called back by fate, the Northern Star is crying If I somehow survive through the labyrinth Then I want to love and die for you until I exhaust myself
  4. Okay, just re-listened to the Kanno version while reading the Japanese lyrics currently going around. They're the same, unless the person who initially fan-transcibed them misheard some words.
  5. EDIT: There are two acapella versions of Lion that I've heard, both acapellas are from one fan who was trying to remember what the song sounded like after she heard it from the Macross Super Live. The only official one I've heard so far is the Kanno demo. Nico Video of fan who sounds very very very much like May'n: http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/nm4122569 The video comment of the poster says that she's singing from memory. Let me listen again and see if the lyrics match Kanno's demo...
  6. Can someone please help me, I feel so clueless... I looked at gg's website for the script and I can't see a 17 ass file there... http://ggkthx.org/Scripts/MacF/
  7. Ranka's legs look like they are missing EDIT: If you look at Ranka's right arm, it looks like the animator rushed this part too much
  8. So, there was no brother who said goodbye to a sister in this episode? The function of the episode title was really to mislead?
  9. Thanks paper2k1!!! I'll preorder the CD right when I hear about it I also heard about another person who ordered the OST 1 from CD Japan when the first press was already sold out... and she still got the bonus Sheryl stage pass. Good for her I guess.
  10. Same as my opinion. Current anime trends say "moe" is in (whatever it is). So to fit in with the trend, they designed a character to look as young as possible, act and look young as possible, and then tell the people, "She's 16 alright! 16! Since we say she's 16, that's official!"
  11. There's this mp3 circulating that's apparently a person who came from the Macross F concert, singing what she remembers of Lion. I wonder how accurate it is... She actually sounds like May'n! Does anyone else have the recording?
  12. Of course it happens, I didn't say that it doesn't happen, I just said that it's not common, especially for a protagonist who's also one of the leading characters.
  13. You can't be serious!!! By the way, one of Megumi's blog entries said that she loved Idol Talk. I wonder how that would sound like if she sang it...
  14. But it's not a drop big enough to topple her over from the top though And I think the votes look better now (in my opinion) since Ranka's no longer neck and neck with any minor character.
  15. I should have added, "...in anime." And yes, I am familiar with Greek tragedies, mostly from studying mythologies in school.
  16. For one, I liked Sheryl because she's professional. If she loses that, that's minus ten points. I also like her for being strong. So if she becomes the most helpless girl in the story, not even making attempts to fix the problem herself (and becomes a bloody clingy crying pulp and asks Alto to stop fighting because she will lose him blather), that's another twenty points. And then she becomes self-destructive and does a very stupid thing that kills many people... out of love for Alto... I'm not very creative with this, you see. Well just a proof that my image of the characters are not fixed - I'd probably vote for Michael as my favorite male now. One episode ago, I almost hated his character, but Alto's line about Michael being intuitive made me reconsider. However, I do recognize that one of the reasons I like Sheryl's character is forever to her credit - the fact that she starts out very high in the story, and then seemingly lost almost everything halfway in. It's a nice twist, it's uncommon for a protagonist, and I like it. But if I don't vote for Sheryl, that doesn't mean I'd vote for Ranka. I will probably vote for Grace if Sheryl goes down in my eyes. Ranka is just not my type of character. I have a mild dislike for Cinderella stories and their lead characters. (By the way, my favorite character ever in any Japanese animation is Spike Spiegel from Cowboy Bebop. I loved the characters in that animation.)
  17. BD is the acronym for Blu Ray right? Blu Ray Disk? Found it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blu-ray_Disc I just remembered seeing the acronym in another website and got confused too
  18. Sheryl isn't invincible to me, I can name a few things she'd do that'll make me dislike her in an instant. Thing is, no other character in the show is interesting (for me), save for Grace. That's my biggest problem with Frontier - the characters are so-so. And it's already halfway in! The characters in Macross Plus left a bigger impression on me in a few minutes than what I've seen in Frontier for 16 episodes.
  19. And the current result is as predictable as ever.
  20. Someone posted this in AnimeSuki: "Sheryl in love" eh... sad and painful?! Oh well, if it's like another Diamond Crevasse (this time for Alto)... I'll refrain from analyzing the "I want to survive" part...
  21. ^Thanks for the translation Mamegu Memo is the name of her blog, and I remember that she explained in one blog post why it's "Mamegu Memo", and if I remember well, it's because in Japan, the vowels are recited as "a i u e o" (in my school I learned it as "a e i o u"), so she turned her blog name to rhyme with that by changing one vowel... so Megumi miMegu maMegu By the way, I have dried mangoes here... but the fresh, sun-ripened ones are a lot better right? We're aliens my dear. Some illegal.
  22. I have a theory though as to why her Papa Don't Preach has fairly good pronunciation - she's been listening to Madonna as a kid, and kept singing and singing the words to it, imitating both Madonna's singing and accent. For What 'bout my Star, Don't be Late, etc, she didn't have a model to pattern her pronunciation from, and perhaps someone taught her how to speak it properly, but she didn't have as much practice.
