The YF-29's in Hayate's colors and the drone has Xaos markings, so I think you may be misinterpreting those shots...

I have started rewatching the first Delta movie coz I apparently forgot Keith died, which seems like an important thing to have forgotten
(Im actually enjoying it more than I did the first time round, though Im only halfway through)

As to this question: This is pretty clearly Hayates VF-31AX in Combat with the Blue 29. Hayate hits the Asteroid and transforms; You can see the new pack and shoulders. He is being fired upon, the shots land behind him as he dodges. Then in Pic 3 you can see the 29 pass over his fighter, before flying past as he leaps up in Pic 4, transforming into fighter mode to go the other way.

  2. I love it! I think it looks amazing in all modes (Well, less so in GRWALK, but i care less about that anyway) and i am 100% in for Hayates. Hopefully Ill be able to get the others if they do them too!

I DO think Ill skip the FPs this time around. I never liked them much anyway. Hell I dont display them on the 31ss i have now.

  3. So I was deep diving around the trailers and the new pics of the 31AX, and have a few theories/things I noticed. I apologize if this is all stuff mentioned in other threads, I didnt have time to comb pages and pages on every thread, and this seemed the most universally relevant for the new movie 😛
*The new fighter (And the poster who suggested the idea that 'DE-124 Siren' may be the name of the new plane has an interesting idea there, and I quite like it) has an intriguing transformation with LOTS of panels, and from what I can tell the turret section behind the head, and the small wings on either side in Battroid are the bottom of the fighter, which means (I believe) that during transformation the cockpit/head slides back up the centre-line of the fighter as the legs swing down. So in fighter mode its kind of lying on its back. As I type this I realize just how hard to describe this is in text. 😛 ) I also agree with the idea many have had that its a drone fighter of some kind, with our new girl flying it.
*Several shots in the trailers show Hayate and Mirage in 31AXs fighting the 'Siren' and the YF-29 as ewll as the Black and Yellow Ghost fighter. This leads me to a couple of theories. I believe that the new girl is a second clone, similar to Mikumo, created by the Spacy. I think the central conflict of this film will pit Xaos and Windermere AGAINST the Spacy.
*We see shots of the 31's flying with the Aerial Knights; promo materials have mentioned the film starts with the signing of a peace treaty between Xaos/Brisngr Cluster and Windermere, so Im thinking maybe this happens here. I suspect the first attack by Spacy forces will come at this ceremony and lead to several of the elements we see later on in the course of the trailer.
*The second trailer shows an old priest dude with a staff on Windermere who I think looks like Keith. He has calcification showing his aging. I think Keith will have 'retired' as the Head Knight of the Windermerian forces, and Bogue will be in charge now. The pictures of the red 262 we have seen have Bogues Wing symbols on it. That said, the 31AX with Green and Delta 6 Markings also has a Red Windermere Knights logo on the back, so maybe we'll see him in both?
*New shots of Hayates 31AX toy  show the name 'Parmenides' who was a greek philosopher and the founder of Metaphysics. Which is pretty cool, but probably in this case its the name of the new ship that the 31AXs launch from. As many have noted, it looks very Zentran in nature. Beats me what THAT means! :D

How much of all that is true i dont know, but its fun to speculate :)

  4. Have they ever talked about how the missile launches work in Macross?
Like a trigger pull on the stick, doe sit fire a barrage of, say, 10 micro missiles at the enemy? Or is it always "FIRE EVERYTHING" and then we get the missile spam.

I mean they have a limited supply of missiles, I would assume they dont want to run out to quickly....

  5. I realized recently that I had basically been calling the world at the end of Frontier 'Vajra" when discussing it, but I think I made that up in my head. Its never called anything other than 'The Vajra Homeworld" is it? We never discover what the Frontier colonists named it?

And whats the weird rocky shell thing around it?

  6. Cheers for the answers!

Didn't the 22 internalize the hand gunpods? he leg shields were deeper or something with the gun ports at the front. I may be remembering that wrong...

    From M3:
"2 x Howard BP-14D multipurpose gun pods OR 2 x Hughes/GE GV-17L new standard internal cartridge-less gatling gun pods featuring retractable grip/stealth covers mounted in 8 x hard point weapon stations (mounted left/right internal ventral fuselage in Fighter mode or inside leg storage bay cover panels and/or manipulators in GERWALK/Battroid modes)"

  7. The Mecha poll is more interesting if you just make it one of each ship type (IMO)
    1 - YF-19 Alpha 1
    2 - VF-1 Valkyrie
    3 - YF-29 Durandel
    4 - VF-19 Excalibur
    5 - VF-31 Siegfried
    6 - VF-25 Messiah
    7 - SDF-1 Macross
    8 - VB-6 Konig Monster
    9 - HWR-00-MKII Monster
    10 - YF-21 Bravo 1
    11 - SV-262 Draken
    12 - Macross Quarter
    13 - VF-27 Lucifer
    14 - VF-0 Phoenix
    15 - Regult
    16 - VF-22 Sturmvogel II
    17 - Battle Frontier
    18 - SLV-11 Daedalus
    19 - VF-4 Lightning III
    20 - MBR-04-MKVI Tomahawk
    21 - VF-171 Nightmare
    22 - VF-11 MAXL
    23 - Glaug
    24 - Macross Quarter
    25 - Ghost X9
    26 - Queadluun Rau
    27 - Battle 7
    28 - VB-6 Konig Monster

*Interesting that while the 11 MAXL is there, the regular Thunderbolt, in either B or C type, is not.
*While on the show popularity poll, Macross Plus ranks low but the YF-19 is the most popular fighter.
*While Macross 7 is one of the most popular sh
ows, the 11 and 17 don't appear at all, but Battle 7 just makes the cut.
*The VF-0 is the sole representative of Macross Zero.
    * 3 of the 4 versions of the Monster appear.
*The 21 is WAY lower than the 19.

    Fun list :)

Unless you have valks that you're willing to trade or sell to fund for the Arcadia 51 (or go Mary Kondo and minimize everything that you have).

Ive done a lot of that recently. Im down to just the stuff I want to keep unfortunately :)

I think they'll stick to the idea that she's a subversion of the idea (in-universe and out) that being a Jenius automatically means you're an amazing pilot.

Im not 100% sure I agree with that.
My read on Mirage was that she was an excellent pilot, but not as good as many others because of the pressure she was under from herself and others because of her name and heritage. Messer told her she was too 'By the book" or some such I think. I think by the end of the series we have seen a Mirage who has loosened up a lot and learned to stand on her own feet and for who she is. I wouldn't be surprised to learn she went on to great things. Maybe she will never be as good as her Grandparents, but I think she would be an excellent pilot in her own right.

    Aids to maneuverability.

The Boundary Layer Control System (BLCS) is a collection of air pumps situated in the main and sub-intakes and inside the control surfaces which collectively work to manipulate the laminar airflow over the airframe.  Two different real world methods are used.  The first, boundary layer suction, is used via air pumps in the main intake and a dedicated sub-intake above the main intake, to extract the boundary layer (the air closest to the surface) and thus prevent it from breaking away from the surface and forming drag-increasing low pressure zones in the aircraft's wake (flow separation).  It also employs what are called "blown" control surfaces, which use air drawn from the turbines and blown out a series of vents in the trailing edge of the wing to shape the airflow downwards, which increases the lift coefficient by delaying boundary layer flow separation.  This manipulation of the boundary layer results in reduced drag that increases fuel efficiency, and also offers improved lift, low-speed performance, and increases the stalling angle of attack, making the aircraft more agile and even offering limited maneuverability without control surfaces if applied asymmetrically.

The Vortex Flow Controller (VFC) is a more recent addition to VFs that injects trace amounts of neutral gas into the boundary layer to asymmetrically change the pressure gradient on the aircraft skin.  The gas causes a vortex to form or an existing vortex to change position, shifting the airflow pressure on the aircraft enough to actually change the direction of flight.  Essentially, an attitude control system that uses the air moving over the airframe as a control surface.

    Thanks dude :)

  11. inflatable was meant to be Unflyable. Apparently my phone doesn't like that phrase.

Well, the remaining conformal packs would disrupt the boundary layer airflow and lead to increased drag that would disrupt handling and impede the operation of the boundary layer control system and vortex flow control system.  It wouldn't be a dealbreaker for powered flight, the decrease in lift coupled with the increase in drag and mass would definitely lower maneuverability.

im unclear what those 2 control systems you mentioned are?

That said i get the idea; little gain for much loss. understood.

Also, I suppose the 29 DOES fly into Atmo with its super packs on... but then it has minor additions that are tightly conformed to the aerodynamics of the plane already.

The packs over the shoulders; does that look like the wing packs to anyone else? At first I thought maybe it was the rear pack folded into halves, but now I think its the rear wings up horizontally somehow?

  13. Well that Kai is gonna be a pain in the ass to get. Hoping I can swing it, coz i loves me that plane.

The good news is, this makes me more confident about the line. I was worried we wouldn't see the rest, since we hadn't any announcements past the Messer armor. This gives me a little more hope.

  14. So let's talk paint.

By the time of macross Delta, I think the Valks are using a kind of SMart Paint on their fighters. In Episode 7, right at the start as Delta are going onto their mission on the cat planet, The Valks (And Walkures carrier ship) all black shift to this stealth camo. Do we have any idea if this is actually a thing?

I ask because suddenly custom colors on a fighter seem like they'd be relatively easy to do. You just program the scheme and the planes smart paint system changes it for you.

Will I finally stump Seto with a questyion about a Valkyries PAINT?! Tune in to find out!

I honestly don't mind the clear pieces. I'm using them at the moment. I don't think it should be treated as such a big deal. It only takes a few seconds to put them on anyway and doesn't detract from its looks.

I had more of an issue getting the missile pods on. One of them took me 30 mins to snap on, possibly due to a molding issue on the pod. The other 3 went on easily enough.

Me too, but I find you can swap 2 of them over if that happens and it goes on easier.

Anyway I really am considering gluing them.
