  1. Ok, Knight.. i understand more what you're saying now. I was asuming our freind deadghost has thought long and hard about his descision.. 2 years i think he said... as someone that has plenty of tattoos, i would always recommend that you think seriously before getting one, what to get, and where to get it. deadghost, I too hope you know what you are doing, and (not to be partonising) are old enough to know what you are getting yourself in for. Yes, you may have some employment issues with a tattoo (although this is less common now, and can be taken as prejudice), and yes some people will always be against it - you may want to think about the future. I hope you do get it done, and would love to see pics of the design before and after! If its something you really love and has made an impact on your life, and you have thought it out properly (i'm glad you are going for a one off custom design), i see no reason not to. Just thought i'd give my moral support, but also follow Knight's (sorry if i got you wrong) words of caution. Look before you leap, think before you ink. :)

  2. One question, why? Seriously do you have so little going on in your life that you are going to permanently emblazon symbology of an anime to your body?

Hey man.. not nice! I have a Spiderman tatoo that i absolutely love (it has won awards in tattoo shows)! Tattoos are like a living storybook of your life, they can tell a story of where u were, what u loved etc.. so if someone wants to put an anime symbol (something he obviously loves and is a part of his life) on himself, so be it. Just because you dont agree, does'nt make it wrong. Have you nothing so little going on in your life that you must judge others for their actions?

(this isnt meant to be an argument, i just dont like people judging when they dont know all the facts and have no frame of reference)

  3. Hmm tough question. the short answer is everything that doesn't hit the charts. hahaha. I do not especially like rap, dance or pop music, but everything else is good.

    faves..

    Nine Inch Nails

    Alice in Chains

    Miles Davis

John Williams (the film score composer)

    Kenji Kawai

    The Mighty Mighty Bosstones

    The Clash

    Louis Armstrong

    Eric Serra

    Debussy

    Orbital

The Orb .... pretty much anything.

  4. "BSG is lucky to pull in 4-5 million viewers per episode, yet some of the crappiest shows in the Big 4 pull that in easily."

Yup, you're not wrong there! For a minority genre show, Galactica has managed to break out of the classic sci-fi mold to be rated along side shows such as 24 and Prison Break.. quite an achievement.. (was'nt trying to argue or anything).

  5. The Toynami masterpiece (MPC) are usually frowned upon due to some bad quality control issues, but personally i have never had a problem with them and i have 4. The Bandai 1/55's are totally superior in quality and size (the Bandai's absolutely dwarf the Toynami alphas), not to mention the fact that they are a "classic", so i'd go for one of those first. The Toynami MPC range come in the most beautiful boxes ever designed and are now also quite the collectors items. Its a choice between quality, style and cost, so like i said.. if I were you i'd get a Bandai first and then a Toynami.

    Hope this helps.

  6. Jap, that really helps, thanks.

But I heard that one 1/48 VF-1x has a problem with its gunpod in fighter mode... something about it not pointing straight forward?!

And I heard that the VF-1A Maximillian Jenius Version is better than the other ones. Like taps and slots on the radar and nose and so on. Is it the only one which has them, or were the other (older) models re-released with such improvements too?

Oh and nobody of you is criticizing the BP8 part. I thought it breaks really fast ^^

It was some of the early YF-19's that had the wonky gunpod thing... mine are fine. The original 1/48 VF-1S (skull leader) had some BP-8 issues, but i believe nearly all those problems are now fixed. All the current 1/48's have these fixes, so dont feel that its only safe to get the max version.

  7. Thank you all for the help. I think I really will go with a 1/48 scale first.

But if there's still someone out there who would like to say something considering the models mentioned in my first post - Go on ^^

Every comment on them (no matter if a positive or negative one) might help me to decide in what to buy and what to leave on the shelfs.

Welcome Lukas, You're right to start with the 1/48's, but regarding your other selections.. I think the SV-51 (although i do not have one myself) may be too complicated and it still has some QC issues, wait for the second release. The 1/60 YF-19 is great (my personal fav.), nice and big too.. it has some QC issues but none of mine are affected. - highly recommended!!! The VF-0's look amazing but the regular VF-0S is a bit 'loose' and all have fragile shoulders. I guess it depends on how you want to display them.

If you havent already, have a read of this page on the main site... Graham's reviews are ace!! nice pics too.

If you want a 'tough nut' valk to play with.. have a look at the Bandai reissues - make sure you're looking at reissues and not the originals.. they should start at about $45 -$60 and are all 1/55 and tough as nails.

  8. How difficult is it to buy stuff from Amazon Japan? I want to get the art book that comes with the dvd.

I've spotted that on Yahoo and Amazon Japan too... wouldnt mind a copy but i'm just as fuzzy on the whole thing as you are. I cant get my PC to translate properly so its even harder to see whats going on

  9. It is true that ratings fell somewhat during the mid section of season 4 but by the last 5 episodes the ratings were back to normal (and some of the highest ever for BSG), I think this could be reason for the mothballing of the proposed prequel show "caprica", as we now know, 'caprica looks set to recieve a green light at last, and with the scale of production on Razor (its gonna be BIG.. lots of vfx etc) i think its safe to say that the decision to split the last season of galactica was not one of money and ratings. From what i can gather, they (sci-fi chanel) just didnt want it to end - its been their biggest ratings succes in years and has brought many new viewers to the network and helped to revive the genre in general. It was Ron Moore & David Eick's call to end the show at S4, and i can fully understand why. It was the network's call to 'spread' it out accross 2 years (the swine), and i can still understand why. Anyway, whatever the reasons.. BSG will be sorely missed when it goes.

UPDATE - found this on TV.com

    "Next episode: Razor mini-sode series

In this ten-part series, a young Viper pilot named William "Husker" Adama uncovers a Cylon weapon during the first Cylon War. Each mini-sode (a Sci Fi Channel term) will run about two to three minutes. They will air throughout October and November 2007 as a prelude to the special two-hour event, Battlestar Galactica: Razor. The videos will also be available at Sci Fi Pulse, the online video site of the Sci Fi Channel.

    Airs: Friday October 5, 2007 "

looks they bumped the webisodes from pre S4 to pre Razor... woohoo!!! only 11 days until some BSG goodness!:lol::lol:

  10. You're right on this case, but I haven't watched Patlabour II since that first viewing and now I wonder if it'll be better as I've grown up a tad since then (that's what made Patlabour I so entertaining this latest time around).

I just watched Patlabor 2 again this evening, and to honest, its my favourate of all Patlabor movies/TV.

  11. Thanks for that Vermillion01 for that you are a legend, that pic has taken me back to my childhood. Well I can't wait for S3 release over here as like I said I love the new show and am a little sad to read that it will end soon (is this correct). You must be a BSG fan from way back aswell as you seem to have such a great knoledge of the subject. Thanks again for the pic, made my day.

    Cheers

Yeah i'm kinda an old skool sci-fi nut. After season 3 we have a 2 part tv/straight to dvd movie called Razor (out in november) which will deal with the Pegasus' time after the intial attack on the colonies, leading upto where she found the Galactica, then we have some more 'webisodes' (3-5 min shows that will be online only at sci-fi.com), and finally S4 will be the last season where (we hope) we'll get to earth. Season 4 will be split into 2 parts so the end wont be shown until 2009. Bummer eh.

if either of you get stuck with finding episodes, old or new or webisodes, i may be able to help. drop me a PM sometime.

  12. Well Mr March I see you are injoying the new BSG, it's awesome isn't it, though I'm still a fan of the originals. It's a bit hard to post anything from Oz about it as it has been axed from TV over here, not a big enough fan base, so I'm left waiting on the S3 release on DVD so I'm still stuck at the end of season 2. It was strange thing in Oz as I grew up whatching the originals with my much older sisters and brother (3 sisters and 1 brother) and they all hated the new show and never whatched passed the secound or third show. I myself love the new show but the old one will always have a place in my heart. Does anyone know where I can find the old shows of when the Galactica locates earth, as faras I know there was only a few shows made before it all ended, need to see those flying bikes again and the cylons at an 80's disco, now that brings back memories. The new BSG is awesome but I must say i would have prefered a follow on rather than a remake but Iwas happy in ep10 of S2 when the Pegasus showed up as it followed the original but i prefered the way the pegasus made it's exit in the original taking on two bas stars and blasting of again into deep space (or being destroyed no one knows) and I also prefered the battle hardened Cain who was a master at battle taktics and a highly honored commander. IMO

Well warpaint22, Galactica 1980 (the second season to which you are refering) is due for a dvd release in the new year, which will be the first time its been out to buy to my knowledge. Its available on some torrent sites in quite good TV quality. As for the Pegasus, you're thinking of one of the the old shows many 2 parters 'living legend' it was an awsome story.. but... wait for the season 3... you'll dig it.. and thats all i'll say on the subject.

    ooh, just found this..

  13. I'm almost through Season 2. Just finished watching Season 2 Episode 15 titled "Scar." Wow! These last half dozen episodes have been so damn good one might almost call this show my new religion :) The juxtaposition of the battles with all the powerful drama is incredible. I've never seen a science fiction show with character development so closely integrated into the story. Each character is so messed up and wonderfully three-dimensional it's a character fan's dream. And these special effects are just so damn fun to watch, I've been waiting for years to see great space battles like this that have me hooked as a sci-fi geek and invested as a fan of compelling stories.

I also have to say it was seriously cool to see Michelle Forbes on the show as Admiral Cain. As if this show didn't have enough great characters, she was fantastic as the Admiral of the Pegasus. I really liked what they did with her character arch. Any other lesser television show would have played Cain up as a straight bad gal villain, but not BSG. Just when you think you've got her pegged, she turns out human after all and let's Adama go. Brilliant writing choice. It made Six's revenge so much more fulfilling and tragic at the same time.

Well, only five more episodes and I'm onto Season 3. Yahoo! :)

Well Mr March I'm you're diggin it as much as the rest of us. How good is ep10? (pegasus) its a real shocker to see that turn up and then nearly blow the crap out of each other.. the viper stand off is tense. so now u know what the "beast" is. Got kinda choked at the bit where they present the blackbird to the president.. you're right the charcters are so 3 dimensional, its a refreshing change for tv in gerneral, nerver mind sci-fi. BSG is far and away the best thing to happen to the sci-fi world in years which is why i would campaign for Ron Moore to try to get involved with the Robotech movie.. can u imagine.....

  14. Great work boinger, i downloaded all the M0 files today (first time using the imacross4 server thing) and its great! I love the M0 dub but i cant get the files to join up..HJsplit does not recognise the wmv files, and virtualdub dont like them either, but its still great.

i got a great fansub copy of DYRL from http://www.anime-eden.com/ as well as a lot of other macross stuff. It is best to 'join' and get the premium package, its only $5 for a month and the speeds and choice are much better (i think the DYRL is premium only). Give it a looksee and let me know what u think.

    VF11B

If that's so, then when Yamato comes around to finally making a new VF-11B...

...it will be in 1/48 scale. (runs)

I wish! nah Yamato are infamous for doing their own version of scaling.. it will (if it ever materialises) most likely be a 1/60 that will not be quite right next to a YF-19 or YF-21, but we can always hope they dont screw up the scales
