Haven't seen one before but I'll do you one better by suggesting somebody design an all new VF-1D conversion kit for the Yamato 1/48's.

Now that'd be a decent size project. I always steered away from the 1/48 Yamatos for odd reasons, but I wonder how many would be interested in that since the DX is about the same size, and kinda fits that role.

BTW, @505thAirborne, is that Eunha in your avatar pic? If so, she is, IMO, one of the top 5 most beautiful women in the world. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

  2. I just invested about $5K into the Formlabs 4 resin printer with their specialty resins that do well for parts that need to be engineered for moving. After testing several parts, they have a material that is true ABS in terms of material properties down the line, as well as some that are meant for extreme pliability and screws. If you want to try a crack at printing it with several types of materials, I can help out. That said, I'd still be in for buying one. I think the range of $150 seems about right for this, as it isn't a process requiring the time and labor involved as recasting would. Printing should keep cost down (unless you're using a printer that uses $150/Liter resin like this one does. Then I can see $150-$200.

As an edit... I'm not going to quote for a fully ready to go kit. That is the time spent for the maker, and their time and what it's worth is up to them. I'd say $200 in that range is probably too low. I know that goes against the grain here, but as this is just my opinion, unless you don't mind being stuck preparing these for extended periods of time, unless the money is really good, I would stay away from that range, especially if it's only a $50 difference.

  3. I'd most likely get a set. I'm not a big HMr collector, so I'd probably only get one, but as with anything, it really depends on the price. As @Sanity is Optional has already said, I too, am a little worried about the materials. 3D printed material, even when it claims to be ABS like, doesn't hold up to that. There are materials that have the same properties, but those are quite pricey. As it is 3D printed, as long as that brings down the price, I'd still like to decorate my only HMr.

Now, if you are considering a 1/60 kit, that I definitely can get behind.

Just got my copy and was able to sit down with it over the weekend.  Looked great to me and really liked having subtitles that weren't gibberish.  It might just be me, but it felt like there were some extended scenes and moments that weren't in the previous versions I've watched.  Could just be the result of "non-official" sources or my aging memory.  Either way, well worth the buy!

I'd have to watch the older version that I have to do some comparisons, but I believe I found a couple parts that may be in question. In seeing this new release now twice, there seems to be a couple parts I don't remember from the original. I know the part where they inserted Sheryl Nome's earrings into the stand that Mao is in front of with her parents was inserted way later on, that is in this one, but I gotta confirm if there is, in fact, scenes that may have been cut from the original.

Same here. Nevertheless I'm holding out for this one, for sure. As it's not the typical VF release, I'm also curious to see if this will be gone in a flash or a shelf warmer. .

Oh, I don't see my anticipation going away for this release. I have a feeling they didn't show it at WF due to the updated version of this, and in looking at the new pictures, this looks like it's one of the more final designs (not final, but closer).

I think it's the angle and the mechanism they've employed for the doors.

It does look like the gun may not be closed inside and/or locked in. I don't know if it has a retracting handle, but that could also be a reason, not wanting to break these parts. Also could be the same thing for the rear wheels, but from this image, it does look like they should be about 3+mm longer. The front gear doesn't look extended right, but maybe for the same reasons as the gun.

I found this 1/48 Bronco II 'Kahen' Type scans from Mandarake before. Not sure if it's going to help zooming in on the parts to see what's different form just a regular 'Gerwalk' kit.

I also found these 2 Youtube videos that's using the regular Gerwalk kit to make it transformable. Which I think it's an easy custom since it's only the legs that's sliding and folding

Apologies, @Jasonc. I'm just trying to help out @djivaldi7:friends:

The videos are actually quite inspiring. It did remind me of what I really want (just a really tough, sturdy version). I did start working on the space for the leg inserts. While I will be using something almost the exact same for how the legs slide, I'm going to possible use a guide system that may be totally independent of the frame itself, something that one can put the legs into the slider (which will have tension points), and make that a unit in and of itself that then is attached to the body. That will allow better detailing to be done on the exterior of that, and allow the builder to create the right tension. It may also allow, once I spend time, to look at materials that will allow better tension without as much wear and tear. Project isn't dead at all. And thank you for sharing those. I do have those kits. I should actually build them at some point like this guy did.

Also, thanks to the rest of you. It's all of you that keep me inspired and makes me want to get back into what I'm doing with this. I'll probably need someone to sculpt out a really good Kei and Olson for those options, as well as decals when that time comes.

oh wow ... I didn't know what to expect when I clicked the thread, but I certainly did not expect this haha

I wanted to leave it a bit vague. I'm sure people who saw this were thinking valkyrie related and whatnot, so I didn't want to ruin the surprise. The kit is literally only 4 parts, so it's a very straight forward kit.

  8. Wow, I'm really impressed with the detail in these. Are these going to be static models, or will you be making them to have articulation, like rolling wheels, folding wings, and maybe the ability to make it with landing gears up or down?

  9. So, while I was going through aisle by aisle at Wonderfestival Japan last month, I happened to stumble upon one of these. I thought they were sold out, or was told they were,  but I managed to score a 1/1 scale swan mic that Basara and Mylene use in the series

Shipping now?  Thought it wasn't supposed to release until the Summer or May at the earliest?

You should have no issues getting the rest of them....These are all easily available via YJA, Mandarake and several doujin book sites...

Ugh, I should've been clearer in my editing. It's ordered from someone that gets them. It's preordered and will be enroute, LOL. If I wasn't so lazy, I'd take some time to picture all the books, mooks, and so on, but at the same time, since 99% of them are probably already documented online, I don't see a reason to. Nevertheless, it's cool to look inside of many of these from time to time. I should probably do the same with all 100+ posters I have, but same dilema.

  11. I have a few of these books, but may be looking at getting some more of them. I like that they have the crossover work showing really detailed images. I have the Patlabor crossover enroute now, but here's the ones I have...

Thanks for the feedback.  I have made some adjustments to Isamu's face as you recommended.  Other than fixing glaring problems, I am not a perfectionist.  As you said, these are intended for small scale, not professional level figures.

I hope you don't think that I was expecting them to be a certain way. They look great. With small scale prints and figures, they almost can't look like they're anime accurate. Have you seen Arcadia's Macross 7 characters? They have the shape of the figures, but not too accurate face wise. In any case, I know you've been working on the other things. It's all looking great. Can't wait to see what you do next with these and your future projects.

  13. The bike design looks really good. All the figures look pretty good, too. I like the riding/stationery options. As I do like seeing the Guld figure, Isamu's pilot face looks a little off. It might be the eyes. However, as I print these in small scale, I don't go for super accurate figures, as the painting process is impossible to get them anime accurate. For that, these are great. Awesome work.

  14. I guess I can now look at getting an SDF-1. I keep putting it off due to not being as interested in ships as toys, but every once in awhile, I feel like I should just have one. In any case, as I was at Wonderfest, I'm a bit disappointed in Arcadia and what they had on display. They didn't even show the Lynn Minmay figure, and I was waiting on that one just as much as the others. That is an easy money maker.

    Any forecast?

I kinda put this off for awhile TBH. I ended up having to do a lot of stuff over again due to corrupting the file, but having an early saved version. I was able to do that since I wrote down a lot of the measurements, but for me, after having to do the work twice through, it kinda left me a bit burnt out. I also need to redo part of the leg insert, as I don't like the amount of support it will have with the slides for them. Because of that, I may roll it back a bit and redo that section to make it more secure, which again, is a redo of something I was already working on.

On another note from this, I've also just been extremely busy with the new job. It was a promotion, so even though it's a decent amount more, the responsibilities are a lot more. It has its trade offs though. As I'm learning new stuff with this, I haven't been wrapping my head too deep into this and the Feios Valk until my probation period is done, which is about 1.5 months away. Project isn't dead by any means, it's just on a bit of a hiatus I guess. I need the time and the inspiration, LOL

  16. I'm gonna assume that piece is a plastic? I could always design it as I have several of those pieces in storage somewhere. Also, depending on what you're looking for as far as strength goes, you may need to look into not 3D printing the files, but taking them to a place that prints hard nylon. you'll get a long life out of that. I use a very strong resing Liqreate Stong-X that is stronger than all of the ABS like resins, but I'd need to test if it is durable enough.

Sounds like @Jasonc is going to have to scale up his tent model!

I did want to do some more work on it, LOL, but I will say that I do like the idea of this being a bit of a "paper" piece. Although, if I'm going to do any altering to what I've done so far, it'll probably be after this is released.

I also didn't know if it was a parachute or something that was standard in the DYRL VF-1 series. As parachutes are usually stored in the seats, I don't know if it would've been one, considering there could be a small charge of explosives probably stored in the harness for ejection during a need to ditch. Don't know if Hikaru would've had that know how. My other thought was that since it's a trainer, maybe if the pilot being trained is bad enough, they may need a tent if they "mess up". Ah, my old thoughts when I was younger.

  18. I got mine a few days ago, and I must say, while I haven't transformed it, it looks completely identical to the previous combination that was released awhile ago. It does feel a little tighter though. I'm glad I got this one. I do wish they'd focus on finishing the 5000, but with inflation being what it is now, I think my wallet can take a good short break.

I would still invite Mari to the conventions. We want to see her. Let her have her say. She is also kind with the fans. I brought ten items for her to sign there. She signed them all for free. She is just upset at them according to her. Paid her in pennies for season one and two of Macross. To other merchandise as well. She said she would do a return to Lyn Minmay and a new Macross series. If they PAID her good.

At this point, I'm not the director of the event anymore, so that is not my call. I hold funds for it, but that is all. It's up to the new person in charge to decide if they want to handle that.

So I'm not sure if this will actually work, but I got a rough estimate modeled.

Unfortunately, this piece is just all over the place to try and measure.  There really are no flat surfaces along any axis to align the part with, and trying to measure the overall dimensions was a pretty sketchy process.  It's really just a best guess.

It may or may not require some sizing up or down to fit, and it some of the corners may need rounding off.

If anyone has a VF-11, a resin printer, and a little spare time to test, I'd greatly appreciate the help!  I think the part is probably about 95% there, but it needs a test printing and fitting.

I'll try to print it. I actually have a resin that is designed to be used in engineering and while it's about $200/Liter, I have a heated cure box that is meant for it, and the stuff really works damn well. I'll try to print it and test it with my 11.
