i really thought those intake covers were integrated (when they showed the prototypes) like with mybe a twist fold out system or a slide system.. wouldn't have been too hard to implement, but would have been more engineering i suppose

Not sure if its feasible at this scale, and even if they did, wouldnt it be too fragile to handle? I know my fat fingers will definitely break those if it was implemented

I will say that there are SOME exceptions to the idea of ultimately being able to find a highly desirable item at some point after release, the Nintendo Switch being one of them.  How long has that console been for sale?  Believe it or not, I have NEVER seen a nintendo switch for sale in a retail store EVER.  That thing is years old and continues to fly off of the shelves.  The '1S roy?  You'll find it, dont worry about it...

The problem with that analogy is that the nintendo switch while having limited editions, is a mass market item that eventually production will catch up with demand, while the Roy VF-1S is a limited item, which who knows when bandai is going to reissue.

That said, I do agree that on release there will be a flood of them available. I mean look at hikkie’s VF-1S, its still available at some place even now and not for a lot more than msrp. So for those that absolutely need one, be paitient and wait till nov when its release, unless you are like me and only want one at msrp, then still wait till nov, some shop like amiami and hlj might have a few near to release as scalpers panic and cancel their orders due to lower than expected demand

  3. Come to think of it, its not unheard of that chinese scalpers can get quite a few humans to help them get stuff to scalp, examples being iphones and luxury brands. So I think you guys are right that some scalpers use many humans to help them make their purchase thus they have so many to sell.

I think the nice way to read that is that we've all tried to convince ourselves we didn't need a toy... and then found ourselves hunting it down, even at a premium, later.

Man, I'm actually buying toys I used to own for more than I paid for them or sold them... so I'm like the worst example.

I really am ok not having tv roy, I have rhe 1J and 1S andnot the 1A as I have no love for max’s color, the only reason I was even on yesterday was just to see how hard was it to get one to prep for when the YF-21 comes out, which is the one I really want. To me I have enough Roy stuff already in different scales and models.

your case is different Jenius, if you are not buying those toys, how else are we all giing to get your great toy reviews to read :p

I predict release on 2021, as obviously YF-21 number. Hahahaha... Just an assuming. :p

But seeing that the yf-19 was released in 2018, maybe the yf-21 can be released in 2020? We still got dec slot for a release yet to be filled

While my mom is taking a nap, I figured I would read back on last night's forum posts and try to cobble together a pre-order madness postmortem of sorts. Please feel free to correct me if you find any errors in my postmortem.  Thanks!

DX Chogokin VF-1S Roy Fokker Pre-Order Madness (7/3/2020)

At about 2 AM EDT, one hour before the official pre-order start time, Nippon Yasan jumped the gun and made the toy available to pre-order. They sold out within a few minutes, and unlike past pre-order releases, Nippon Yasan did not re-offer the toy later on at marked-up, above retail prices.

Starting at 3 AM EDT, the major stores including AmiAmi, CDJapan, and AmazonJP made their offerings available. These too sold out within a few minutes. As usual, AmiAmi experienced server problems due to high load and CDJapan experienced slowness, though I don't think it ever had a server crash or complete unresponsiveness.

Hobby Link Japan was a little late to the party, making Roy available after 3:30 I think. They seemed to experience lots of server problems and 404 errors.

Overall, it sounds like the Roy pre-order madness was not kind to many MWF members, with many failing to secure orders for themselves... with high demand quickly depleting inventories and stymieing website performance.

(I did not mention some of the other stores like Nin-Nin or Anime Export because... well... they seem even smaller and, in some cases, of questionable quality)

    ------------------------------------

Sorry I missed out on PO Madness. I really would have liked to have attended the whole thing and updated store link and price listings.

It looks like I got very lucky last night. I woke up to use the bathroom and managed to hit AmiAmi at the perfect time to place an order in (about 3:50 AM EDT), then go back to bed. I suspect that someone ahead of me might have cancelled his or her order, which made AmiAmi show the toy as being available when I hit the website.

For those still looking for a Roy VF-1S, I would suggest keeping an eye on AmiAmi, in case more cancellations occur that free up inventory.  I have managed to get some past pre-orders in this way, even a day or so after listings had appeared to have sold out.

This was Shizuka the Cat, and thank you for your time.  (* bows *)

(* scampers off the stage and dives into a pool full of tuna fish and catnip *)

I think its more the universe way to give you an easy pre order (which you totally deserve)since you are going thru so much in real life now, I was refreshing ami ami at that same time and saw the add to cart but when I did it says item no longer available. No biggy for me as I was pre ordering for fun as its not an item I wanted to begin with and if I can’t get it fir msrp, I won’t be getting it.

Any one that pre-ordered with Nin -Nin check that you actually paid for the right item please.  you might of been hit like i did

Ok, you ordered a Roy and they switched it with a hikaru?

My idiotic bank rejected the transaction, now NIN NIN says i have to order again, even when the order says "awaiting payment" I am so insanely angry right now.

Why would nin nin let you pay less when they can make you pay more right?

Wasn't even aware of this FFS. Can't find any available anywhere..

I think nin nin is still open, but buyer beware, its their 6th of 7th round of marked up PO tonite

Surprised that NY hasn't listed any additional rounds at a higher price.

I don’t know where I got this but, I heard nin nin is french runned and so is NY, maybe they are connected?

  11. I found a HMR monster locall at usd $200 last night, too bad I also spend usd$200 last night on a lego star wars tantive iv kit....

I'm guessing demand for a legioss is a lot less than these bandai DX's. So you're prolly competing with scalpers.

either that or sentinel just makes a crap ton of them??

Oh its popular, as it was sold out on release day, and i don’t think sentinel produced more legioss than bandai producing vfs, my bet is that they have less scalpers doing sentinel stuff due to price point. Most scaplers want low risk high return stuff, bandai stuff are generally cheaper than the competition thus attract a lot of scalpers and collectors willing to pay up to $100 more for a toy they could no get on PO night, thus its seems lucrative. Of course these are my own observations over the years of macross collecting.

  13. 14 minutes ago, Falcon said:

Man, they must have done theirs real early...

For once they opened on time or slightly earlier, also they have not opened for the marked up price though.

on a separate note, why can’t ordering a bandai dx be as easy as ordering a sentinel legioss, no pre order madness and po opened for days

  14. Good thing is I did not pre order this as I was not really into Roy’s vf-1s, already have an arcadia one. Thebad thing is, if this is how preorders are going these days, how am I going to get the YF-21 when it opens for preorder, as that is the one I really want.
