Looks like moderoid is doing a Dragonar kit as well. Saw these on taghobby. I really liked the hg kit that Bandai did recently, but knowing Bandai, that may be the only kit they do from the line. If Moderoid does more than just the Dragonar 01, I’ll probably buy into themIMG_2207.jpeg.f7beb55741011de145ee46123b72f731.jpegIMG_2208.jpeg.20a422569eabafed67f6567985e144c5.jpeg

Please tell me this will be 1/100 scale. Aside from the usual candidates, a Falguen and Gilgazamune would be great to have.

But with the three HMR Dragonars being very good representations, I find it difficult to get excited about model kits now.

    It's funny...

I preordered the YF-19 on day 1, as soon as HLJ posted it for preorder.

I did not get one shipped when it was released, it went to backorder.

While it was on backorder, I found 3 copies locally at 3 different physical stores. I then canceled my HLJ order.

Fast forward a bit... I preordered the YF-29 on HLJ as soon as it was posted.

Again, at release, it went to backorder and I got nothing.

I've already found a YF-29 at my local shop, and between local online stores and local physical stores, I can easily get a couple more.

I will again be canceling my HLJ order.

I have the YF-29 Max and YF-21 on preorder at HLJ now, but I have 0 confidence I'll ever see a kit come in for me via that avenue.

    I'm sure I'll wind up getting 3 YF-19 Max and 3 YF-21 locally.

I don't know why HLJ gets so little stock of these.

Same here, cancelled my YF-29 just last night. I figured I will be able to get this locally before HLJ ever fulfils the backorder. Also the higher shipping costs these days eats up any savings on the actual item, so that it overall tends to be slightly cheaper to go locally.

What annoys me with HLJ a bit is that weeks before release they keep sending you reminder mails that you have something on pre-order, then it is release day and... nothing, no information that they could not fulfil or that they put you on backorder – a complete lack of transparency.

  3. This came out of nowhere. Not big on the VF-19 Kai either, but hoping Max Factory milks this into the VF-19S/F type.

It is refreshing to see the LERX as a block at the back of the Battroid and not incorrectly hanging off the main intakes like how all the toys do it.

  4. The whole point of this, is that Unix Square is trying their hand at a reinterpreted design of the VF-1. One can like that or not, but coming in here expecting it to be anime/line art accurate is kind of a fallacy. There are already plenty of options for that "accuracy" in toy or model kit form available.

Personally I am liking most of it – especially the slimmer chest plate and heat shield not being flush with it as well as the smaller spacing between chest and backplate. A reminder that the VF-1 is supposed to be a compact mecha in Battroid mode and something that is mostly lost with the current toys by Arcadia and Bandai.

If I could have my way, I would flip the inner and outer lower leg casing, shorten the fuselage to nose cone transition and I hope the head will sit lower.

Well, it does star in one of the best OAV series from the Gundam saga. It takes down an entire GM platoon by itself. Its pilot has more charisma than most of the pilots from the non UC universe. Despite the fact that it has to fight with a far superior MS it is almost able to beat him. So, definitely does not get much screen time but what it does with the time that is given to it well, it's really legendary.

You know I'm reading this and I'm seeing scenes of 08th MS Team and Gouf Custom flash up before me – not Kämpfer. You sure you are not mistaking the OVA here? 😛😄

The Kampfer is one of the few special force units.  Its a hit and run tactical mobile Suit.  For what it suppose to do, it excel at it.   It was on screen for only a short time, but it did more than its share of a** kicking.   Its also one of the few Zeon MS that is in a darker blue color,  which is similar to what SDU and Swat teams use to wear.

The special forces/SWAT team connection has never occurred to me, but I can see how that would make the Kämpfer somewhat special amongst other Zeon MS.

More than SWAT, it's more German with the name, helmet design, the launch grenades and the dark blue that is only a few shades off German grey.

Still, $250 USD is pretty damn good, which I was planning for the evantual DX re-release Ozma, but might have to give way for this...

Hmm... interesting, the Geara Doga has always been the more "German MS" for me, especially for the head design. And I'm not really a colour guru, but to me it's a long way between the Kämpfer blue and German grey.

It’s kinda like the love affair for Boba Fett back in the day, but better. At least this mobile suit had an absolutely awesome scene of handing the feddies their butts up until it got to the Gundam. And if it weren’t for all that added armor it might have actually won the battle.

The other thing this mobile suit gets attention for is its beauty. It has a great simple color scheme and looks so much cooler than the usual clown painted federation suits, especially the Goofy looking Gundams. It’s a perfect Antagonist mobile suit.

Other people like it for the insane weapon load out with two of everything and a chainmine set for fun

I guess it boils down to the MS design not really being in line with my aesthetic preferences, that very bulbous and somewhat squat main body in combination with the wider looking hips throws me off.

Thank you all for your input on the Kämpfer. I'm torn, on the one hand I want to give it pass, but on the other hand with a possible Gundam NT-1 (however long that might take) it would be a great companion to have in the collection. As it is P-Bandai, it will be well over 40k Yen to get a pre-order in – I need to contemplate.

  6. A novel and bold move by Bandai to initiate a new animation entry in the Metal Build line with a non-Gundam or non-hero mecha. I guess that means to also start saving money for the eventual MB Gundam NT-1 release (Chobham armour P-Bandai release :)).

Maybe someone can explain, but personally I have never understood this love affair for the Kämpfer. If my memory is not failing me, it featured briefly in one episode and didn't really do anything noteworthy, only to quickly get dispatched by the NT-1?
