  1. Some Xbox 360 games have shipped.
  2. Is it me, or does that robot/mech on the title screen look like a blatant copy of an MS-09 Dom from Gundam?
  3. I remember the "secret" - he was Canadian.
  4. And make sure to read the second page. http://1up.com/do/feature?pager.offset=1&cId=3145154 One of the criticisms about the 360 is that it isn't supporting the newer DVD standards off the bat. Unlike the Dreamcast, the 360 is in a different position when it comes to the storage medium of its games. Regarding the Dreamcast, DVD had been out for about 2 years and they should have gone that route. With the 360, neither Blu Ray or HD-DVD have come out or has players capable of playing them have come out. One of the things the PS2 had going for it that the PS3 will not is that it appeared at a much better time and it helped further promote a technology that had been around for a few years already (DVD)... not to mention that the abilities of the PS2 to play DVD movies and PS1 games helped to further sell it compared to the Dreamcast. In the PS3's case, instead of appearing a few years into the cycle of Blu Ray DVD's, this time, Sony's going to have to utilize the PS3 as a tool for pushing this new standard. If Blu Ray or HD-DVD had been out for a year or too already, I think this would be a much different story. The PS3 will probably end up on top, but it's going to be a more uphill fight this time and Microsoft is going to take a bigger share of the gaming market this time around.
  5. Two weeks from tomorrow is the big day! Right now I'm trying to decide what other game to get with my system: either Perfect Dark Zero, Quake 4, or Call of Duty 2. Got to have at least one FPS for my new system! So what way should I go?
  6. Just curious how many Macross Worlders posted some questions for the Mari Iijima interview. I was pretty suprised how few have posted so far... also, a fair number of the questions posted (especially those thinking Mari knows anything about or has any serious opinion on Mospeada, Southern Cross, or their Robotech incarnations) are down right scary or laughable.
  7. According to Gary on Team America: World Police, I thought Alec Baldwin was the greatest actor in the world! ....
  8. They need to make a 1/1 scale version so that one Japanese businessman will have a costume when he goes up to the International Space Station! Hobby Japan had a one page spread on this doll, er, figure recently.
  9. Right now it looks like next June tentatively. Two months ago when I was clearing out much of my video game collection, my original idea was to have credit for preordering the PS3 and to get the original Xbox so I could get the Halo games and some others like the Dead or Alive games. But since getting the original Xbox would in the long run be a dead end, I decided to go for the gusto and traded off enough stuff to easily cover BOTH the 360 and the PS3. I should be able to enjoy not only most of the old Xbox classics I've wanted to play, but I can now look forward to being able to play Halo 3 next year and any cool stuff that appears on the 360 in the months and years ahead.
  10. Well we do have a dedicated PSP thread for that particular system. With the release of the 360 just a matter of a few weeks away, I thought it was relevant to start a dedicated topic.
  11. Getting my stuff through Gamers which is a local store (three in the Omaha area and several elsewhere in the Midwest). Possibly won't get it on launch day since they don't have the same importance as Gamestop for example, but if I have to wait a few extra days or weeks, so be it.
  12. Who didn't see that one coming?
  13. If I remember right, that was the very first episode. I really like the show the first season, though it went down hill after that. BTW, who did Adrian Paul play on the show? I remember the guy who was one of Arnold's commandos in Predator being the military guy who was involved in the counter alien opeartion... he ended up being controlled by them and ended up blowing his brains out.
  14. It's less then 3 weeks until the most powerful home gaming console is released on November 22nd. I think it's time that we start a dedicated thread to the first of the next generation machines. So who's getting one? What games do you plan on getting? Will you be gaming with Xbox Live? If you are MGREXX, you are welcomed to make an @$$ of yourself, too! In my case, I'm getting the complete $399 package. Getting an extra wireless controller, Dead or Alive 4, and Ridge Racer VI. If I trade in some more stuff soon, might either get Peferct Dark Zero or Call of Duty 2. Already have the Halo triple pack and Dead or Alive Ultimate to play on it. Strongly considering making this the first console system I take online.
  15. Haven't had the chance to watch the extras (actually hard to say when I'll get to watch the DVD period! ), but what would have been the point if Anakin had been completely evil to begin with? He would have never been a Jedi, never would have been friends with Obi Wan, and would have never have brought into being the two children that would one day stand up to him. When you watch both trilogies through, you see how both Anakin and Luke's lives almost perfectly parallel each other. Though both of their upbringings and influences result in different paths at a very crucial moment(s) in their lives(though Anakin is brought back from the Dark Side at the end). Though there are some questionable things about the prequal trilogy and they are trying to cram a lot into 3 two-hour movies, Anakin's story is suppose to be one of tragedy with an ending of redemption.
  16. Just to reply to some of your points: 1) ...their practices of demanding studio's produce edited content versions of media in order for them to carry it. - If Walmart wants to only sell certain things because of the convictions of the Walton family/the other higher ups in the company and/or their desire to appeal to certain demograph of customer, more power to them. If you don't like what they're selling, go through a store or source that sells what you are looking for. No one should hold a gun to their head for what they want or want not to sell. A few years back, a bunch of whiny vegetarians out in California (I believe) were wailing about Burger King not having a vegetarian menu. Hello??? Buger King is a friggin' HAMBURGER JOINT! The vegetarians should either go to a place that satisfy their needs in the first place or create a "fast food" place for vegetarians. It would be silly for me to show up at Wild Oats and demand that they sell big greasy cheeseburgers and they were evil in denying me from doing so. Just like Burger King has got their own thing going on with fast food, Wild Oats with health food, so does Walmart with what they want to sell and cater. 2)...stomping out mom & pop shops - It's just the nature of capitalism. In the case were Walmart is coming into these smaller towns (if it's too small, there not opening there anyway), Walmart is offering a better price and selection then what those local stores do. Obviously the consumer is going to go with the better price and selection. It isn't just Walmart that "stomps on the little guy". All the other retailers and electronic stores you mentioned are striving to be the biggest and best that they can be and guess what? There are smaller companies and stores that lay in their wake too. Perhaps the same will happen to any of them and even Walmart, too. For about a decade, Nintendo was THE only name in video games for nearly a decade and pretty much were a monopoly over the console market. A decade later, where are they now? 3)...locking their employee's in the stores & forcing them to stay - Perhaps they are evil after all! What are the cicumstance for this? Is this an individual store thing or a company thing? If the store is doing an all store inventory and need to shut down during hours they would be usually opened, it would make sense to lock the store up. I don't recall what exactly happened the one or two times we did inventory at the Walmart I was at, but during the two years I was at this one major store that sold pet and farm supplies, we would usually do our inventory on a Sunday and we would have our doors locked to keep the public out (hey, we were closed!). Now back to our regularly scheduled programming.
  17. Er, I think you mean Walmart? Have you been channeling Michael Moore's spirit recently or what? Going out of your way like that to smear Walmart is typical of liberals who love medocrity and hate success. And I say this even though I was let go from a Walmart about 13 years ago after just two months of employement (didn't like the position anyway and it was for the best) and my mom has been an employee of a competing retailer for nearly 20 years.
  18. Holy smokes, Steve! You've waited over two years to finally make 1 post on the board. Thanks for the heads up about you guys taking questions for Mari.
  19. Originally I was wanting to reply to some comments made by Roy a page or two back, but I agree with some of the others that we really need to get this thread back on subject or start all over. animeondvd.com is having a far better discussion on this subject matter then this site is... and this is a Macross dedicated site for crying out loud! Again, 1) A new Macross boxset is being released by ADV using the footage originally remastered by Animeigo. 2) Not only will it have improved subtitles, but it will have a complete dub over to English for the first time. 3) The very same Mari Ijima who voiced and sung Minmay's part way back in 1982-83, is reprising her part in English... an anime first (or at least extreme rarity)! 4) New extras, including stuff by Mari, will be on this DVD set. 5) Presumably, the artwork will be hopefully be better then the blan artwork done by Garoquel (sorry ) for the Animeigo discs and box. 6) With ADV having a much bigger and better distribution, this means more people might have the chance to see Macross... like the dub or not, this will also garner more interest. This is as exciting, if even more so, then the Animeigo release. We should be celebrating, not spending all these last several pages bitching and moaning.
  20. Hopefully Mari does NOT redo Minmay's song's into English... the majority of English dubs of anime usually keeps the songs (either in the background or foreground) in Japanese. Of course in Macross Plus, Myung's song at the end was changed to English in the English dub, but the lyrics were more or less being spoken then sung, so it kind of made sense. Has anyone heard what the suggested retail price for this set will be? Since ADV doesn't have to go through the exhaustive remastering that Animeigo went through and based off of what the Mospeada and Southern Cross sets went for, my guess is between $100 and $150. Holy smokes! Didn't expect to be shelling out more money for a Macross DVD boxset again in just four years from when I got my Animeigo set. Now I just need to decide if I should sell or trade off my Animeigo set...
  21. I downloaded that, too. Pretty awesome stuff!
  22. BTW, has anyone had the chance to try out one of the XBox 360 kiosks yet? Had the chance to try one at the Super Walmart in Bellevue, NE last Friday night. Mainly played the Call of Duty 2 demo.
  23. Any chance you know where I could find pictures of these planes? 339615[/snapback] Here's an online article woth checking out... there are a few links in this article to pictures of a whole number of the ATF proposals: http://www.aerospaceweb.org/question/planes/q0021a.shtml Also, check out Bill Sweetman's most recent book on the F-22 which came out through Motorbooks back around 1998. Also his book Lockheed Stealth is worth looking at.
  24. N-O-N-E of the serious ATF entries in 1986 had canards: Lockheed's original design (looked like a crossbreed between the F-117 and F-22) amd their final YF-22 amd F/A-22, Northrop's YF-23 (looked pretty much the same it's whole life), General Dynamics (looked kind of like a twin engine F-16XL - GD's inability to get a twin tail configuration to work forced them to go with a single tail, bumping them to third place), Boeing (looked like a cross breed between their X-32 and the YF-23), and McDonnell Douglas (their design looked like a cross breed of their F-15 along with a mix of faceting and seemless surfaces... weight was a big reason they finished 5th). As for this "anti canard mafia", I've heard of the "fighter mafia", but that one is news to me...
