1. Meant to reply sooner, but better late then never. I'm sorry I don't have the exact quote (or parphrase) of Ben Rich's that Bill Sweetman's used in a few of his books, but all the controls that you mentioned including thrust vectoring follows rougly how a bird works... wings up front with the steering surfaces (including thrust vectoring engines) in the rear. And I'm going to hold firm that the main reason canards have not appeared on modern day US fighter designs is because their positioning and structual attachment would seriously hinder a stealth aircraft's RCS reduction. Some of the European fighters like the Typhoon, Rafale, Gripen, etc. have canards that are not in the same plane and (in the Typhoon's case) are angled out of the horizontal, this is going to set up a lot more complications in seriously reducing the overall RCS of the aircraft. To call any of the above mentioned fighters "stealthy" with all the slab sides, single vertical tales, bomb/missiles, antennae, etc. is a joke. Besides the internal weapons carriage and their surfaces designed to deflected radar signals away from the trnsmitter/reciever, the majority of these first few generations of stealth aircraft also work by keeping down the number of extra edges and surfaces, especially the front. Of course, as better means via computer come about for creating low RCS aircraft, canards will probably sprout up in more designs. Lockheed's early incarnation of their JSF and McDonnell Douglas' JSF incarnation both had canards so it might become a better possibility. The unmanned X-36, which looked like a scaled down JSF, had canards.
2. 338813 It will be ironic if Mari's English voice over for Minmay is worse then Reba West's version! Seriously, it has been this fanboy's wish for ages that if an English dub would be done for the US of either Macross the TV series or DYRL, that Mari would reprise her role of Minmay in English. Previously, I didn't have definite plans on getting this new Macross DVD set, but I'm a lot more jazzed up now. This is anime history in the making!
3. Probably stealth. The main areas of concentration for RCS reduction on most stealthy aircraft is the front and sides (though subsonic aircraft can have more done for the rear). Whether it be the F-117, B-2, the F/A-22 (NONE of the ATF contenders used or proposed canards), the A-12 Avenger II, most of the JSF proposals and the F-35 itself, etc., all of these aircraft try to keep a simple head-on profile that's not going to return the radar signals back to its transmitter. If you start putting some sort of canards on the airframe at some odd angles (like on the Typhoon) or even like what was on Lockheed's and McDonnell Douglas' JSF proposals, it becomes an extra set of edges for radar to bounce off of thus making a bigger target of the front of the aircraft. Also, it was Lockheed's own legendary Ben Rich that pointed at that birds don't have canards and I think he said something along the lines of until he saw a bird with canards, Lockheed was going to stick with the traditional tail configuration.
4. Looks like this guy was inspired by my little creation. When I do our club's next newsletter in a few months, I might have to include this article!
5. The guy doing your Focker sounds like what were to happen if a clone was made using BOTH Beavis and Butthead genes! At least Beavis anyway. Also whoever was playing Minmay's aunt sounded like she was calling her Min-my! But hey nice work at trying to do your own dub.
6. Getting things back on subject, Ridge Racer 6 is one of the first two games I plan on getting with my 360 (the other being DOA 4). It's good to see the game is progressing nicely. It's funny how ten years ago, I started off my PS1 with the first Ridge Racer and a 3D fighter (Toshinden). Now it looks like history is repating itself for me. I might add that I don't own an original Xbox. The thing that has sold me for going with a 360 has been all the Halo 2 playing I've got to do over the last year. Besides being able to play Halo 3 next year, I want to be able to go back and play the original Halos and a few other Xbox classics (like DOA Ultimate, which I picked up for $15 a few weeks ago). I am currently still planning on getting a PS3 (got $400 in store credit I'm sitting on at Gamestop), though if that system ends up being too ridiculously expensive, that credit may go for additional 360 merchandise or perhaps Nintendo's Revolution... not including my beloved SNES (which I still have 3 dozen games for), I pretty much got rid of every other Nintendo system and game I have to help pay for my next generation of stuff, so I guess I might need some way to play all the Nintendo classics I no longer have!
7. Also you need the hard drive to be able play original Xbox games. Without the hard drive, you are up a creek.
8. I think this pic below goes perfectly with these video game threads right now (especially thanks to MGREXX).

10. Jeremy, that F-86 sure looks familiar! It was here at the Offutt Air Show back in August.
11. Picked up the PS2 version today. Finally, after 15 years of waiting, I finally got a virtually perfect home version of the original Final Fight!!! But almost every other game that is on this compilation appeared on the 5 disc Capcom Generation set which came out back in 1998 for both the Saturn and PlayStation... in fact, quite a few of the games on the new disc for the PS2 and Xbox have an additional copyright of 1998 so what is on this new disc must be based on the Generation's translation. I might add that I have the Saturn Generation 1, 2, and 4 discs and I have the US release of disc 5 for the PS1 (it was retitled Street Fighter Collection 2). But, still, finally having a pretty much arcade perfect Final Fight and a few of the extra games that were not on the Generation set made this worthwile... and it was only $20, too!
12. As I pointed out elsewhere, if the Dreamcast had turned 5 or 10 this year, it would have been more notable to celebrate it. Looks like some topics are going to get closed. The Dreamcast was an awesome system, but, 1) It's the PS1's 10th anniversary which is more significant then the Dreamcast's 6th. and 2) I think the Dreamcast was pretty sweet, but Sony's little wunderbox has had a much bigger effect on the video gaming world. BTW, what day this month is Windows 95 10th Anniversary?
13. Got two, too. The one I got on 9/9/99 and the one I got on clearance at a Target for like $50 (my backup one). Might be getting rid of one soon to help pay for either my Xbox 360 or PS3.
14. Yeah I forgot the Dreamcast launched on the same date (think it was a Thursday while the PS1 was a Saturday). Though I think it would have been more significant to celebrate if this was the 5th or 10th anniversary. Great system with some great games.
15. As part of Sony's marketing, they would run commercials and print advertisments with the sentence "ENOS lives". The 'E' was colored red. I think the official explination was ENOS = Ready Ninth Of Septmeber (Red 'E', get it?).
16. Again, shouldn't we be starting a Day 5 thread?
17. Today marks the 10th anniversary of the US release of the Sony PlayStation. Boy, am I starting to feel old (I was 22 at that time)... So who got one of those first 100,000 or so odd systems that were relased that day? Who still has one of these first systems? I got mine from the Babbages over at the Mall of the Bluffs in Council Bluffs, IA. Didn't get to fire it up until that evening, but once I did, I was playing Ridge Racer and Battle Arena Toshinden for about 5 or 6 hours straight. Unfortunately, my first PS1 started developing its skipping problem (due to heat messing with the CD reader) about 6 months later. I was able to contine to use it for another year and a half or so by putting it on its side or upside down. Though I've been using my replacement PS1 and of course the PS2 (still using the one I got on the launch day in October 2000!) ever since, I still have my first PS1 in storage in its original box. For those who didn't know, these early PS1's were VERY easy to trick into playing Japanese games. That's part of the reason I kept mine.
18. Can't be that bad. Remember the XFL? 326455 Had Vince made a serious attempt to keep those as two separate entities away from the WWE/F with occasional dreammatch crossovers from time to time, it could have been great.
19. Considering that Lindsay is pretty much a skeleton these days, pretty much anyone could kick her ass!
20. Before landing, the P-51 Mustang known as Gunfighter (it belongs to a former Air Force brigadier general and has been at almost every show as far back as I can remember) flew up to meet the Eagle as part of the Air Force Heritage flight. Two of America's greatest fighters ever. That's it for this year. Hopefully we can get a Raptor in the next few years!
21. Where Eagles fly... An F-15D from Langley AFB in Virginia (that where my sister and her husband and son were until a few months ago) was the last solo performer.
22. Time to finish off this thread. After flying over two other air shows, B-2A Spirit of Alaska refueled a 100 miles off the east coast and flew straight to Nebraska to make two passes before heading back down to Whitemen AFB in Missouri.
23. While the Air Force has its Heritage Flight, the Navy has its Legacy Flight. In this case, the second F/A-18F flew in formation with an F6F Wildcat and an F4U Corsair. This was the closest i got to a Super Hornet, so enjoy these pics (again, I do have higher resolution versions of some of these pictures). That's it for tonight. I'll wrap things up with the B-2 flyby and the F-15 tomorrow.
24. Blast from the past! Randy Ball's MiG-17 Fresco (it was here last year) had a mock dogfight against and F-86 Sabre. Guess who won. It's always so cool seeing classic jets like these flying around.
25. Super Hornet time! Right after the RC-135 and E-4B did their passes, one of the two F/A-18F's at the base took off and did an incredible performance. It clearly didn't have the power the F-15 (which flew later) has, but the aerobatics that it did, including what appeared to be the Cobra, were phenominal and were manueavers that I have never seen a regular Hornet do. (More Super Hornet shots coming up soon!)
