  1. Both auctions were grossly inflated sale prices. Don't know what the hell those buyers were thinking, since neither lot contained high end artworks. Hopefully these will not end up on our local online chopping blocks courtesy of our favorite scumbag scalpers.
  2. That original drawing from the magazine illustration is interesting, but just not a fan of the closed eyes compositions. However definitely a huge fan of the artworks by Toshihiro Hirano and Kakinouchi! Pity neither lend their character design talents to recent series. Anyone bid on or win the recent DYRL cel lot that closed at 1k USD?
  3. Gotcha. Are you using UV resistent museum glass and acid free archival matting? May want to use those for your higher end artworks that you elect to display.
  4. Creative jvmacross! Will you attempt to do the same with your other cels? And btw did you get the cel framed, frame it yourself, or did you borrow one from an existing artwork? Curious who is open to do framing work during the Chaz and Covid mess.
  5. Sweet Mikimoto goodness! Thanks Chas and jvmacross for sharing. If they compiled the pencil drawings used in DYRL into a book (like they did w/the Gold Book) that would be amazing. Hope springs eternal.
  6. @jvmacrossDo you know if these Document of Macross No. 001 - 004 by Haruhiko Mikimoto, will ever be bound into a book? Sure would be nice to view the gengas in a larger book.
  7. If the recent DYRL cel lots and FB cels were purchased within Japan that is an interesting trend. Especially considering many previous sales were made using proxies for in all likelihood, international collectors. On a related note, it appears YJA seller apple_symphony_xx is finally, unloading their Macross art inventory. Previously he had a large collection of art but, perhaps he is finally realizing now is the time to cash in. Wonder if we will see other YJA sellers follow his lead? Now is a great time to buy art for high end collectors who prudently saved or are independently wealthy, but not so great for anyone struggling financially.
  8. Rather unsurprising considering DYRL art prices typically command more than TV art prices. Wonder if we can expect to see these reappear on feebay anytime soon. Anyone here care to wager a guess? Or better, did anyone here win any of these sets?
  9. Buy it now! Lol know the seller he lists everything at maximum pricepoint.
  10. The Seika Note cards and pencil cases are very nice! Thanks for sharing!
  11. Consider using https://www.getpaint.net/ it has some of the features of Photoshop, but it is free.
  12. Agree the pencil sketches are amazing! Really wish they were collected into books. And yes much of the original art has been lost over the years. If we are lucky other collectors share the art from their collections. @jvmacross I find this is a helpful resource to make gifs https://gifmaker.me/ Test it out and let me know if it helps.
  13. Whomever bought that lowend DYRL cel grossly overpaid. Oh well high bidding wars is one of the horrible results created by YJA's asinine auto-extension feature.
  14. Pity, however, certainly better than a scalper purchasing the cel.
  15. Precisely. Who knows if that specific cel will ever appear online in a gallery, forum, or FB cel group. Some collectors like it when the cel image appears in books, I personally do not care at all. For DYRL cels many appear in the Gold Book but it does nothing to increase the cel value. The same holds true with the FB book. Since we are on the FB cels, actually preferred the previously sold one where Minmay held the microphone.
  16. @ANTEATERNEO You and every other Macross cel collector wished it was cheaper too. But as you should know, if you want to collect original art, you better be prepared to pay a lot to even stand a chance at buying. @jvmacrossTry transferring the tracelines using an old school copier. I had a listing of copiers that were frequently used before, need to search. In the meantime try researching into the acetate transfer process. Good luck.
  17. Have not attempt to do this myself, however it should be possible using new layers of acetate. My concern would be what would you use to transfer the line or colors onto it (assuming you wanted to recreate the scene using colors). Whatever medium you use, it will react chemically to the main douga of Millia, certainly something to be mindful about. Let us know how your tests go with some pictures after you complete some. Good luck!
  18. Anyone planning on getting this nice Flashback cel of Minmay? https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/h474310158
  19. Thoroughly enjoyed the series and how well developed the characters were especially Ashoka. Pity we do not see more of her afterwards but I suppose they can always make a standalone movie for her.
  20. Nice TV Millia! Congrats! Thanks for sharing. Did you pick this up recently?
  21. Exactly. Many Japanese art owners want a premium price for the items they have and list the sale price for top dollar. Of course it does not mean they will get any buyers because demand does wane for most older series. In fact many of the remaining online dealers just do not get new inventory from private collectors for this very reason.
  22. Nice addition jvmacross! Thanks for sharing.
  23. The FB cel origin is highly suspect especially considering how the seller claimed he obtained the cel. This is the first time I have ever heard an original production cel was given during the pre-order purchase of an LD. Does anyone know of any other LD pre-orders that historically also gave away original production cels? To my knowledge this did NOT happen with any of the early series: Iczer-1 OVAs, Baoh OVAs, Dangaioh OVAs, GunBuster OVAs, Wicked City, City City Oedo, etc.
  24. Nice DYRL buttons. Wish they made more merchandise for the marketing. Anyone else got more to share?
