  1. http://a.scarywater.net/aone/"]AonE Fansub AnimeFlunkies also have their fansub, but who cares about them anymore?
  2. I think the proper description for EXaXXion is "Huge Robots, Big Guns and holy-mother-of-god-sized tits". :) Honestly, any bigger and his female characters in EXaXXion won't need life vests while in water. "Personal Floatation Devices", indeed! Are you telling me they're larger than those of Masami Obari's chicks?
  3. When a manga artist has The Blues Brothers and the original Gone in 60 Seconds as his favorite movies, don't expect a great story from him.
  4. If you check out the Korean version of the official Wonderful Days site, there's a section that mentions the film's influences such as Metropolis, Apollo 13 and... This little title made in Korea 20 years ago...
  5. Speaking of Kenichi Sonoda, what's he been up to these days? It seems that he hasn't done much after Gunsmith Cats was made into a 3-episode OAV (he should've made it at least a 13-episode TV series instead).
  6. And it looks like ADV Films is co-funding the series.
  7. A few notes about BGC 2040: - While the animation is better, the violence level is severely watered-down. I forgot who broadcasted this series in Japan, but I bet it's TV Tokyo (the same people that didn't want blood on NOIR). - BGC's strongest point was its music. Apparently, 2040's weakest point is its music. (And don't get me started with Akira Sudo's remake of "Konya Wa Hurricane.") - 2040 changed the character traits to a point where many of them are hardly recognizable. Priss is a quiet schizoid unlike the original's spunky, hotheaded chick we've all grown to love. Sylia is a rampaging psychopath instead of the original's calm, intelligent character. Linna seems like a brat in the new version. Leon was a smart-ass with a keen sense of humor; the new Leon is just a dick (probably even gay, since he's not asking Priss for a date). We used to laugh at Daley pretending to be gay, but the new Daley is plain boring (maybe because he really has a thing for the new Leon).
  8. I bought vol. 1 on DVD around three years ago. The disc suffers from a lot of problems: - Horrid DVD menu design. - Crappy DVD-ROM features (crashes every computer using it). - Video transfer looks like it was taken from the VHS version. - Japanese audio needs improvement. English audio is much worse. Overall, it looks no better than a HK bootleg. Hell, my VHS copies of the laserdiscs look 10 times better than the DVD. At this year's Anime Expo, I talked to an AnimEigo representative about the possibility of releasing a remastered version of BGC. He said that M2K currently holds the DVD rights and as soon as their license expires, AnimEigo will probably work on remastering the series. I'll just wait for that day...
  9. Animation-wise, the peak point of the series was during eps. 5-6 (directed by Masami Obari). Episode 7 was okay, but there were countless animation errors that would make the Anime Friend staff smile. It's also interesting to see what the staff members did after BGC: Episodes 1-3 Katsuhito Akiyama went on to direct Sol Bianca 1-2 and Bastard!!. Perhaps his high point was Battle Athletes Victory while his low point was Armitage: Dual-Matrix. Episode 4 Hiroki Hayashi became more famous for directing the first Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki OAV series and some of its side stories. He also went on to direct 2040 and contribute to AIC's more recent titles like Battle Athletes and The Legend of Black Heaven. Episodes 5-6 During the 1990s, Masami Obari was all over the anime industry. After attaining success with Space Knight Tekkaman Blade (1992-1993) and Fatal Fury: The Motion Picture in 1994, Obari's career started going downhill. Apparently, Fatal Fury caused him to abuse other gaming franchises such as Battle Arena Toshinden and Voltage Fighter Gowcaizer. Aside from other anime titles such as Platinumhugen Ordian and Chojuushin Gravion (*Watches DestroidsRage cringe in disgust.*), Obari also worked on the hentai OAV Angel Blade. Yuiko Tsubokura, who performed the ending themes for episodes 5-6, is part of the group Pipeline Project. They did the opening and ending themes for the 2002 anime series Samurai Deeper Kyo. Episode 7 Director Fumihiko Takayama didn't do much other than this episode and Mobile Suit Gundam 0080. While he directed Orguss II, that title didn't meet a lot of expectations. His most recent works include screenplays for RahXephon and Gunparade March, as well as directing WXIII: Patlabor The Movie. Staff members Kinji Yoshimoto and Satoshi Urushibara went on to do Plastic Little and Legend of Lemnear. Episode 8 Director Hiroaki Gohda and animation director/character designer Hidenori Matsubara became involved with more groundbreaking titles. Both men are known for the Ah! My Goddess OAV series (1994-1995) and movie (2000). Gohda did character designs for Please Teacher! and Onegai Twins, while Matsubara collaborated with Kousuke Fujishima (Ah! My Goddess, You're Under Arrest) on character designs for the Sakura Wars game and anime series.
  10. Hey, at least she's better than the psychopath version in 2040.
  11. The 29 Groups (or was it 36) fansub of episode 3 is now available. But despite having more serious subtitles, beware of the following: - The filename is titled "Pretty_Guardian_S&M_03[3623CB69].avi" - The group decided to slip in a faux Sony commercial during the break.
  12. Let's talk about Bubblegum Crisis - one of the titles that got most of us into anime. Not the watered-down '90s remake by AIC; this thread is a tribute to the eight-episode OAV series released from 1987 to 1990. To start off, here's a question: What do you remember most about Bubblegum Crisis? For me, I think the music stands out among everything in the OAV. I love Kenichi Sonoda's character & Hard Suit designs, but the songs by Kinuko Omori (Priss) and the Knight Sabers completely define the series, especially the first episode's fast-paced opening "Konya wa Hurricane." I could play the Bubblegum Crisis Complete Vocal Collection discs on my CD changer without getting tired of them.
  13. I live over in Van Nuys, and the smoke coming from the wildfire is barely noticeable here because the city's already polluted enough. The sky's pretty dark in Burbank (where I work), though.
  14. I know one of them is Project A-Ko, but I forgot the other three.
  15. Wonderful Days ( 원더플 데이즈 ) Tin House/Aura Entertainment/Masquerade Films, 2003 MaxMedia, 2005 Directed by Kim Moon Saeng Rated PG-13 for graphic violence and mature situations. A.D. 2142 - Overpopulation and excessive pollution have made majority of Earth uninhabitable. The only safe haven for mankind is a city called "ECOBAN," which actually uses pollution through the DELOS System as a means of energy. While searching the city for an infiltrator from the wastelands, ECOBAN officer Jay discovers that the intruder is her old friend Shua. A former ECOBAN citizen, Shua has sided with a militia from Marr to bring down ECOBAN's tyrannical reign and restore the Earth's environment. Story: B- The story, highly influenced by Fritz Lang's 1927 masterpiece Metropolis, seems promising at first, but in some aspects, it reminds us of Square Pictures' 2001 flop Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. In its running time of 87 minutes, Wonderful Days has a rather minimal plot with characters that need a little more development. Still, it's an entertaining movie and for a Korean film, it's much better than the 1996 animated disaster Armageddon. Animation: A++ Using the skills learned from the Japanese, Tin House (Macross Zero) delivers an outstanding mix of cinematic-grade 2D and digital 3D animation equal to groundbreaking anime titles like Macross Zero and The Animatrix. The character designs aren't too bad, either. Soundtrack: B+ While there's one song in the film that's well-composed, most of the orchestral BGM is barely noticeable except in the end. The Bottom Line Can Korea compete with Japan in the animation business? The answer is yes, and Wonderful Days just proved it. Links Official Wonderful Days Homepage Reference Anime News Network
  16. And knowing is half the battle.
  17. All right, the time limit will be 24 hours.
  18. Rule change: The time limit for every question is 24 hours. If the question remains unanswered after the 24-hour limit, the person will reveal the answer and post another question. If the question is not changed within 48 hours, the thread is open to anyone else.
  19. I'm not impressed by the way the bookends look as they lack detail. If you're supposed to depict a Veritech shooting down a Battle Pod: 1. There should be simulated gunfire and smoke on the barrel of the gun pod. 2. The hole on the Battle Pod should have inner detail of the cockpit and the Zentraedi pilot getting killed by the Veritech gunfire. Whether it's blood or some body parts getting blown off, there should be some detail that depicts an actual battle. If the bookends do not have these details, then they're not worth buying at all.
  20. The ink will smudge a bit after application, but not as much as Gundam Markers. If you let it settle for a couple of hours, the ink should stay in place with little smudging. Pigma Micron by Sakura
  21. I agree with TenScaryMonkeys that the Pigma Micron .005 pen is an excellent choice in drawing panel lines on the 1/48. Here are some sample pics of my Valks.
  22. Rated or Unrated, none of the Charlie's Angels movies are worth buying. Even if you're a Lucy Liu fan.
