  1. Two words: HELL NO! There was already one attempt to make a live-action Gatchaman. It was an NTT commercial series featuring the boy group SMAP as the Gatchaman team. It looked cheesy as hell and I'm glad it was limited to two commercials.
  2. What Graham said. BTW, what do you guys think of the live-action Crying Freeman movie?
  3. Either one of these chicks: Jun Kusanagi Cocolo Sora Aoi Anna Ohura
  4. Going back on topic... Golgo 13 There was already a live-action version titled Golgo 13: The Kowloon Assignment starring Sonny Chiba. I did, however, had this idea of a live-action adaptation starring Steven Seagal as Duke Togo and Jack Palance as Leonard Dawson. M.D. Geist I'm surprised that Central Park Media hasn't pursued a live-action adaptation of their adopted mascot. Imagine the film directed by David Twohy (Pitch Black) and starring Dolph Lundgren as Geist.
  5. Well, if you insist... The Macross Saga Rick Hunter - Peter North Lisa Hayes - Tera Patrick Lynn Minmay - Jun Kusanagi Roy Fokker - Rocco Siffredi Captain Gloval - Ron Jeremy Claudia - Midori Miriya - Aria Giovanni Azonia - Jewel De Nyle Kim - Sylvia Saint Sammy - Violet Blue Vanessa - Raylene The Robotech Masters Dana Sterling - Jenna Jameson Bowie Grant - Sean Michaels Marie Crystal - Asia Carrera Nova Satori - Lexus Locklear Musica - Jasmin St. Claire The New Generation Rook Bartley - Briana Banks Annie LaBelle - Nikki Dial Marlene - Nici Sterling Sera - Jill Kelly Robotech II: The Sentinels Karen Penn - Devon Janice Em - Stephanie Swift Invid Regis - Marilyn Chambers Special thanks to Noriko Takaya for the Sentinels suggestions.
  6. The trivia questions can be in different formats - multiple-choice, fill-in-the-blank, true/false, etc. You can even post Jeopardy!-style (questions in the form of answers and vice-versa).
  7. Mission Outer Space, Satisfaction, Gorilla...SRUNGLE! Wow, I never knew Clover made such a toy. I always thought they died out shortly after making the first Gundam toy. Great article, drifand.
  8. Correct. >EXO<, you got the next question.
  9. Let's do a little trivia here. Here are the rules: Here's question #1: The opening sequence of Mobile Suit Gundam has Amuro looking up and reaching for the light. Which is the most recent anime to use this scene on its opening sequence? A ) The Vision of Escaflowne B ) Mobile Suit Gundam SEED C ) Heat Guy J D ) Overman King Gainer
  10. That's what happens when an anime series has a budget of US$12,000 per episode.
  11. First time - Account got silenced because I bashed someone who said Macross Plus should be part of Robotech. Second time - Got banned because I bashed Toynami for failing to supply Macross Super-Poseable buyers with gun pods. I still lurk around RT.com once in a while, but the atmosphere is just as bad. I try to keep my sanity at time when I see posts like this: AnimeNation is no better with the Robotech/Macross section on their forums:
  12. I did not watch the No Mercy PPV today because I wasn't interested in it. Even if I did, I'd switch the channel after the Tajiri/Rey Mysterio match (I enjoy watching Benoit, but him fighting A-Train is a total waste of his time). Here are the results, anyway. (From TopWrestling.com: WWE Cruiserweight Championship Tajiri kicked Rey Mysterio. Chris Benoit made A-Train tap out with a Sharpshooter. Zach Gowen landed a one-legged moonsault on Matt Hardy ver.1. The Basham Brothers def. APA after Shaniquia hit Bradshaw with a foreign object. "I Quit" Vince McMahon def. Stephanie McMahon after Linda threw in the towel. Kurt Angle made John Cena tap out. WWE U.S. Championship Big Show def. Eddie Guerrero to become new U.S. Champion. WWE Championship - Biker Chain Match Brock Lesnar def. Undertaker after Vinnie Mac pushed Taker off the top rope.
  13. 1. Officially, Austin's retired from wrestling due to his bad neck. 2. The Rock is gone from wrestling as he's decided to be a film actor instead. 3. Pretty much bad writing, countless injuries and Triple-H's rampaging ego.
  14. I just finished downloading the TV-Nihon version of episode 1. Unlike the "29 Groups" fansub, the TV-Nihon version refrains from using words like "underage" or "tentacle." They also cut the commercials because obviously, it's not necessary to translate them. As a matter of fact, it's a waste of time. Meanwhile, the "29 Groups" have just released their fansub of episode 2. Though the commercials are gone, the insults stay on. Example 1: After Opening Credits "This program was brought to you by Bandai, so that they can sell little Sailor Moon figures to stupid kids and make lots and lots of money." Example 2: Inside the Secret Karaoke Room Luna: "Usagi-chan, we're not here to play." Usagi: "I know, but I'm too blonde to understand stuff like that." Example 3: Usagi and Ami Hanging on for Their Dear Lives Ami: "I want to yuri you up, Tsukino." Example 4: Tuxedo Kamen Looking On Tuxedo Kamen: "Sailor Moon...Sailor Mercury..." (Caption: This is a horrible release. It will scar so many kids who take their live action seriously.) For now, I'm downloading both TV-Nihon and "## Groups" fansubs to compare notes. BTW, what did you guys think of episode 2?
  15. I picked up the first issue at Suncoast early this year.
  16. It's a continuation of Mazinkaiser and only one episode with a 1-hour running time. I'm sure Dynamic and Bandai will produce another follow-up soon.
  17. ADV has the manga and it will be in stores next month. Hopefully, they won't screw this one up like Azumanga Daioh...
  18. Gunslinger Girl ( ガンスリンガー・ガール ) Madhouse Studios/MediaWorks/Marvelous Entertainment/Fuji TV/Bandai Visual, 2003 FUNimation (Projected Release Date: Late-2004) Directed by Morio Asaka (Cardcaptor Sakura, Chobits). Rated TV-14 scenes of minors killing people with guns. "The girl has a mechanical body. However, she is still an adolescent child." "Henrietta" was an innocent little girl when her entire family was massacred and she was left for dead. She was rescued by a privately-owned social welfare organization and given cybernetic components over her battered body. Brainwashed by the organization, she and four other girls now work as cold-blooded assassins. Story: A- Reminiscent of Luc Besson's 1990 masterpiece La Femme Nikita and the 2000 runaway anime hit NOIR, Gunslinger Girl captures the essence of the European spy thriller. The major twist is children killing others like trained professionals. Gun afficionados will want to pick this title up, especially the first episode where Henrietta cleans house with an FNP90. Animation: A+ Madhouse (Ninja Scroll, The Animatrix) is no stranger to ultra-violence, and they do an excellent job animating Gunslinger Girl's hard-boiled shootouts. Hisashi Abe's (Chobits, Aquarian Age) character designs completely shine throught the series. Soundtrack: A+ Toshihiko Sahashi's European-style jazz/orchestra score is arguably his best work since The Big O. Add the opening theme, "The Light Before We Land" by The Delgados, and you have a soundtrack worth adding to your playlist. Cast Gunslinger Girl features Yuka Nanri (Mao in Macross Zero) as Henrietta, Kanako Mitsuhashi (Killua in Hunter X Hunter) as Rico, Eri Sendai (Yuki in Neo-Ranga) as Triela, Ami Koshimizu (Ashita no Nadja) as Claes, and Hitomi Terakado (Hanon in Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch) as Angelica. The Bottom Line Gunslinger Girl can and will offend PTA groups, but who cares? It still kicks ass! Links Official Gunslinger Girl Homepage (Japanese) Reference Anime News Network
  19. Kikou Senki Dragonar ( 機甲戦記ドラグナー ) Sunrise/Nagoya TV/Bandai Visual, 1987-1988 U.S. Distributor Pending. Directed by the late Takeyuki Kanda (Round Vernian VIFAM, Gundam: The 08th MS Team). Running Time: 25 minutes per episode. Not Rated (Suggested 13+). Contains sci-fi violence. Cast Masami Kikuchi (Tenchi Muyo!, Keiichi in Ah! My Goddess) as Ken Kenyuu Horiuchi (Daley in Bubblegum Crisis, Hans in Psycho Armor Govarian) as Light Yoshitaka Ohtsuka (Beck in The Big O, Chibodee in Mobile Fighter G-Gundam) as Tap Bin Shimada (Stick Bernard in Genesis Climber Mospeada, Scirocco in Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam) as Jean Akiko Hiramatsu (Miyuki in You're Under Arrest, Yukari-chan in Azumanga Daioh) as Rose Masako Katsuki (Deunan in Appleseed, Sailor Neptune in Sailor Moon S) as Diane Saeko Shimazu (Four Murasame in Zeta Gundam, Yuri in The Dirty Pair) as Min Hiroshi Takemura (Crusher Joe, God Ginrai in Transformers: Masterforce) as Welner Shinya Otaki (Nakato in Gundam 0083) as Douglas Jurota Kosugi (Dryden in Escaflowne, Zagato in Magic Knight Rayearth) as Mayo Kayoko Fujii as Linda Unshou Ishizuka (Guld in Macross Plus, Jet Black in Cowboy Bebop) as the narrator Synopsis A.D. 2087 - the United Lunar Empire Giganos wages war on the Earth Federation Military to take control of the planet and establish a "rebirth" of the human race. During an invasion of a colony by Giganos' forces, three civilian men - Ken, Light and Tap - stumble upon a trio of top-secret Metal Armor units called "Dragonars" and pilot them to combat the enemy forces. Story: B+ From the first episode, your first reaction will probably be "another Gundam wannabe title." Yes, it starts with some mass-destruction (in Australia. Again.) and the invasion of a space colony, but the difference is that we get not one, but three main heroes of the story. Unlike Gundam, none of these guys are wimps like Amuro Ray. What makes Dragonar more unique is Tap - the first (and only) African-American lead character in a mecha anime. Despite having a similar beginning to Gundam, Dragonar looks a lot more promising than Gundam SEED. Animation: A- What kind of budget did Sunrise put on the opening animation? Every time I watch the sequence (which alone gets an A+), I keep thinking these are the exact same animators that did Gundam 0083. Kenichi Onuki (Garzey's Wing, Earthian) did some excellent character designs that are on par with Hiroyuki Kitazume's (Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack, Bastard!!) works. Bash Kunio Okawara (Mobile Suit Gundam, King of Braves GaoGaiGar) all you want, but you gotta admit that Dragonar has some of his better designs. Soundtrack: B The opening theme is pretty catchy (if you don't mind '80s) and the BGM is okay. I just need to watch further episodes for more of the music. The Bottom Line Forget Gundam SEED. Watch Metal Armor Dragonar instead. Old school mecha anime still rules. Reference Anime News Network
  20. Mazinkaiser: Shitou! Ankoku Daishogun ( マジンカイザー 死闘!暗黒大将軍 ) Dynamic Planning/Bandai Visual, 2003 ADV Films (Release Date Pending) Directed by Masahiko Murata (Serial Experiments Lain) Not Rated (Suggested 17+). Contains extreme violence & gore and mature situations. A race of subterranean beasts called the "Mikene" appear out of nowhere and indiscrimiately wreak havoc all over the world. Kouji Kabuto must race against time to once again pilot Mazinkaiser and defeat the Mikene and their feared leader Ankoku Daishogun. Story: B+ Wow, here's an anime title that doesn't let go of the action. Death and destruction occur non-stop throughout this one-hour OAV. Key characters immediately get killed off (I won't tell you who, though, because you will cry!). Great Mazinger and Venus A are battered beyond repair. The Photo-Atomic Laboratory is decimated. Total carnage, I tell you. And the way Mazinkaiser deals with all this...you just have to watch it for yourself. Animation: A- For this type of game, the new Mazinkaiser OAV boasts leaner and meaner animation. The battles between Mazinkaiser and the Mikene are pure hardcore heaven for any Super Robot fan. Soundtrack: A- A darker and gritter musical score - along with some hair-metal themes by JAM Project - totally match the apocalyptic setting. The Bottom Line With this OAV one-shot, Mazinkaiser retains the title of Hardcore Champion of Super Robots. Links Bandai Visual's Official Mazinkaiser Homepage (Japanese) Reference Anime News Network
  21. No. Idiots like robotech purist are too stupid to even comprehend with the debate. BTW, robotech purist or any other troll planning to spam the boards with your idiotic propaganda, if you're reading this, we have one thing to say to you...
