  1. May I humbly suggest that one of the best antidotes to the Evangelion side-effects you describe is Dai-Guard? Great up-to-date anime with old-school robot flavor, with a rather amusing parody/satire of Eva and other post-modern shows. I'm a huge Eva fan, but I really needed Dai-Guard after watching "The End of Evangelion." Sheesh. Best, --MyClone
  2. geecie30: Fantastic work! Thanks for the pics, and for the information about the proper use of Krylon Fusion. I gotta get some of this stuff for my planned custom. Best, --MyClone
  3. Arr, ya ... gots me .... But seriously, I really like this one, Avenir. Thanks for sharing the pic! Best, --MyClone
  4. Thanks for posting the latest pics, Graham -- somehow I'd missed these. But I must respectfully disagree with those that don't like what we've seen of the 1/100 VF-0. I actually like the design, and don't mind the toyetic compromises that Yamato appears to have decided to stick with. Let's hope the end result is a fun, sturdy toy, and not a fiddly display piece like the 1/60 VF-1. Best, --MyClone
  5. Marx: I arrived late to the 1/48 party, and only have two VF-1Js so far -- the standard Hikaru and the super Millia. Both are extraordinarily nice toys, really the definitive Valk design. The super armor really adds a lot to the appearance of the toy, much more than I would've guessed given my experience with the old Takatoku/Bandai 1/55s. The color-coordinated fast packs on Millia are a nice touch; I'd think either that one or the TV version super Max would be well worth your money. I picked up both of my 1Js at Big Bad Toy Store during their periodic 10% off sales, which you might want to wait for if you're not in a hurry. Best, --MyClone
  6. mslz22: I was considering using Krylon Fusion for a toy custom (not a scale model), and found your recent post. I was going to use two colors of the Fusion paint on this toy, but now wonder if I would need to mask off the different colored sections and paint them separately (rather than painting the second color over the first). You note that no other paint will stick to dried Fusion; do you know if different layers of Fusion paint will adhere to one another (after drying)? Sorry for the silly question. Thanks for the info, --MyClone
  7. I agree. If I can find them for cheap then I'm just going to pick up the Cyclone ones. The plain figures and alphas don't do much for me. I have these and rather like them. Big Bad Toy Store has the set of five two-packs for $30. If you click on the picture, you'll note that there's just one mech-only set, unfortunately; the rest have one mech and one person per pack. Still, both the Alphas and Cyclones are very nice for Kubrick-style figures, with good paint operations and details. The magnetic feet are also a nice touch. Best, --MyClone
  8. Newca: I agree with CID; don't pay more than $30. That said, it's a very nice toy, with serious Takatoku/Bandai Macross cred, despite the Robotech box. It's a bit small, but very heavy for its size. I dig my Robotech version. Best, --MyClone
  9. Hey y'all. Last year, at the New York Toy Fair or the San Diego Comic-Con (at my advanced age, I can't remember which ), Toynami announced that they would be re-releasing several of the Matchbox Robotech Destroid figures. The Valkyrie-Exchange has this listing for them: Attack Mecha As you can see from the listing, this line has apparently been cancelled. Does anyone know why? Had the molds (re-used by Playmates in the 90s) degraded? Were retailers uninterested? Some other reason? I'm just curious if these will ever see the light of day. I have the Playmates versions, but was hoping to build an army of Destroids with the re-reissues. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks, --MyClone

I'm quite happy with the GPB Armor set. I purchased it to outfit the only 1/60 Valk in my collection, the VF-1A Hikaru. As Fifbeat's picture illustrates, the "anime" fists are far too big to use with VF-1A, as they make the Valk's small head look tiny. Using the "action pose" hands included with the Valk restores the right proportions; the retractible hands seem too small to me. Some of the armor pieces are a bit loose, but the menacing appearance of the toy and its combined heft (thick plastic over the diecast in the 1/60 legs) are quite satisfying. Well worth the $40. 11. Hey y'all. This seems like a fine thread for me to make my first appearance, too. I recently got back on the Macross wagon after picking up the Queadlunn-Rau. Great toy! Most recent acquisition: the GPB Armor set. I like the way it bulks up the 1/60 VF-1A Hikaru, which was looking lonely as the only 1/60 in my collection. Looking forward to receiving my first 1/48 soon. Best, --MyClone
