Whuh? I played through the Xbox version of MGS2 at least three times. I don't recall it being glitchy. -

Right, and that was my first thought too. But, the exclamation point is used as an upside down I in the Metal Gear Acid Games. The rightside up I is usually an Apple thing. And "mgst" is in the url, as in Metal Gear Solid Touch. I'm guessing it's an Acid game for the iPhone/iPod touch. -

Growing up, I was always a console gamer, and was content to use controllers for FPS games going back to Goldeneye. Recently, since a store nearby started selling cheap used PC games and I built a nice gaming PC, I've learned to use the mouse/keyboard combo, often touted as superior. One of the arguments often presented is that using the mouse for aiming is much more precise. And I can totally see that. That doesn't make a mouse/keyboard combo superior, though, only the mouse. Well, over Thanksgiving break, my wife has me replaying Super Mario Galaxy with her. Probably the first time I've had to dig out the Wii Nunchuck since... well, since we bought SMG the previous Thanksgiving. It occurred to me that, while a keyboard would still be necessary due to a lack of buttons on the Nunchuck, the Nunchuck would be an excellent replacement for the WASD keys, as it sits comfortably in your left hand, is small enough to allow for hitting keys on the keyboard while holding it, and leaving the right hand free to work the mouse. While the typical FPS uses several keys, the two buttons that are on the the Nunchuck could even be used for more common commands that you'd want quickly in the heat of combat, like melee and tossing whatever grenade is currently equipped. Has anyone heard of anything like that being done? I know people have used Bluetooth to get a Wiimote working with a PC, but I have no interest in using the actual Wiimote as anything more than a bridge between the Nunchuck and the PC. I'm also not looking for strange drivers that would wake the Wiimote turn up as a joystick... I want the directions on the stick to translate directly to WASD have everything turn up in the game as a keyboard, so I don't have to screw with settings if I want to use it one time but am too lazy to do in another. EDIT: Apparently, I'm not the only one thinking along those lines. A company called SplitFish has designed A setup very similiar to what I want for my PC, only they did it for the PS3. -
No, it can't. Because Devon Aoki is the ugliest Asian woman on the planet, and seeing her as Kasumi kills you a little inside, but Maggie Q... get her a boob job, slap her in Mai's outfit, and suddenly KoF is worth at least a rental.

Good enough then. I'll skip Kiss of the Dragon, and go for Swordfish and Predator after the holiday.- 376 replies

The Xbox 360 Thread Pro Edition

Yep That's cool. I'm a pad person myself. As I mentioned in one of the other threads, I spent a lot of hours on all three SNES versions of Street Fighter II. I also had all the Alphas for the original PlayStation. Everyone talks about how great the Saturn controller was (never owned a Saturn), but I'd be fine with the SNES d-pad, honestly. The PlayStation d-pad was sketchy, but doable, so I guess I could use the Dualshock 3, but the 360 pad is out. As much time as I put into SFII back in the day, I'm not particularly excited to shell out $15 bucks for it again, let alone even more money on a controller. Agreed. But maybe it can be used for PC, too? Then again, if the PS3 controller uses a dongle, like the Logitech controller I have for it, it might be able to be used on the PS3 as well. Which begs the question... PS3 controllers are Bluetooth, but some third-party controllers have dongles. Microsoft went with a proprietary encryption for their wireless controllers to corner the market on wireless controllers for the 360, but why not use a dongle there to get around it? -

MegaTen online beta has begun. Anyone else in? I'm installing it right now. -
Well, I don't think some of the Legends I want are due until then, and I also doubt that Cyclonus, Hound, or Inferno will turn up before then either. But I think that some of the Legends I want ought to be out. Honestly, I'd rather they weren't, though. Save me a lot of hassle if I only have to deal with other collectors and scalpers and not the holiday crowd.

I beg to differ. Just 'cause some of you had a local arcade (closest to me was maybe an hour away), transportation, and spare quarters, you think you're soooooo special. Well, some of us put a lot of time into all three versions of SFII to hit the SNES. Way too many hours, in fact. I'm sure that the stick is nice for Zangief's spinning pile driver, but frankly I find them too floaty and imprecise for charged moves. And while I almost never used Zangief, I used Vega, Guile, Balrog, Chun Li, and Bison plenty. -

Yeah, I'd agree with that, but on the other hand, Mad Catz might be making a turnaround from their usual crappy stuff. Their Rock Band Bass is actually pretty good. If you can find one, and that seems like a pretty big if. It's listed as out of stock or out of print at my usual import shops. I'd imagine, if you could find it, it'd be on the pricey side, not to mention the PS2-to-PS3 adapter on top of that. If I were in David's shoes (which I kinda am), I'd hold off a little bit. Wait and see if the Mad Catz controllers are any good or not. Then ask yourself which console you'll use more for gaming. I know a lot of people like Uxi and Gaijin strongly prefer the PS3 for gaming, but there are also people like me who use the PS3 more for media and the 360 more for gaming. If you fall into that category, and the Mad Catz controller turns out okay, maybe you'll want the 360 version. With all that in mind, I didn't grow up playing SF in arcades, I grew up playing it on the SNES. If I really wanted SFIIHD, I'd probably buy it for the PS3, just like I did for Megaman 9... the PS3 D-pad. I'm sure as heck not shelling out extra money for an arcade stick or another controller over it. -
Because everywhere that's not Wal-Mart is charging $10.99 for Deluxes? Don't get me wrong, if Wal-Mart can make money selling them for $7.77, I'm glad to give them my business, but maybe they can't afford to discount all their TF's that much. Or maybe they're doing it because you figure, hey, while you're there, you might pick up a Voyager or two at the standard price? I dunno. They seem pretty cool, but I'm not collecting the Activators (as I mentioned, I kinda lost interest in Animated), but I do gotta swing by Toys R' Us soon. I do want to snag Brawn, Wheelie, Beachcomber, and Warpath in the Legends class, and Toys R' Us is the only store around that seems to stock Legends. Unrelated rant, why all the Legends Autobots? Why not shove out a few crappier Decepticons and help fill out their ranks? Maybe the Insecticons?

*crosses fingers and hopes it looks like the Saturn-ish SF controllers that came out already for the PS2 and Xbox* -
Yeah, I can see that. And yeah, the swords fit that motif. But that still begs the question, why is Megatron a samurai all the sudden, and where'd the fusion cannon from the artwork go?
-
Since when is Megatron a Samurai? Is there some sort of convoluted Alternity back story I'm missing?

Well, not a whole wall at my Wal-Mart. One side of a four-way in the middle of the isle in front of the electronics department. But it's still a welcome sight, and there's some decent stuff on it. I personally want to grab Predator and Swordfish (but I'm really broke right now). I might be tempted to pick up Kiss of the Dragon, too.- 376 replies

Yeah, after avoiding all the holiday mess, I snuck out to Target tonight (Sunday night). My local Target had stocked them once, and sold out, so I was surprised to see they'd restocked them. I passed on the Animated stuff, since I think I'm done collecting Animated toys in favor of Universe toys. I also passed on the Dirge/Roadbuster set. Dirge doesn't look like Dirge, he looks like Starscream painted in Dirge's colors. Likewise, Hotshot doesn't really pass for Roadbuster, so all that toy had going for it is Roadbuster's colors, which are frankly kinda nasty. I did pick up the Ratbat/Springer set. Cybertron Sideways makes for a pretty-slick pre-cassette Ratbat, and Cybertron Evac was a pretty solid helicopter Transformer to begin with. I'm glad I passed on the Blades repaint... while he had a pretty real-life accurate paint in alt mode, neither mode really looked like Blades to me. As Springer, he might not look as slick in alt mode, but he looks very Springer-ish as a bot (despite how much that illusion falls apart under scrutiny). Short of a proper Universe triple-changing toy that was never meant to be anything but Springer, it's likely the best Springer we'll get. And Ratbat, well, short of some sort of encore release in Japan, it's probably the only Ratbat we'll get.

Yeah, but MP Grimlock is in perfect scale with Voyager Henkei Prime. Well, if Hasbro brings Grimmy Stateside for the same price as Starscream, I'll definitely buy him. But as it stands, I'd pay more than that, so I'm not importing the Takara one.

My headset's busted, and I can't promise I'll be on much this week, but I'll definitely be looking to play some Horde, especially after I finish the campaign. The buddy that loaned it to me was playing splitscreen with me, but we didn't get further than the 5th wave before he had to take off. -

I voted for the Firefly bundle. Well, with my luck, I wouldn't get the invite to buy it anyway, but I'm really holding out for the $130 EEE PC laptop, anyway. -

Excellent. My buddy just finished Gears of War 2, and he brought it over for me to borrow. I know what I'm doing this week... -
Gundam vs. Gundam is out. My advice? Wait for a sequel or a DX or Plus version. The Gundam Vs. games, in my opinion, are really only good outside the arcade when Capcom gave them some kind of campaign mode. Even the campaigns in the Gundam SEED games (the one on PSP, and the second one on PS2) were kind of crappy compared to the old Capcom ones, and Gundam Vs. Gundam doesn't even have that. It's just Arcade mode until you unlock all the suits...

Yeah, that's pretty much what I've read... that drops in the framerate and pop-in are problems with the Unreal Engine. I'm not sure if it's a hardware thing, since Epic seems to be fine with it... maybe there's something to Silicon Knights' suit? Squeenix seems especially bad at developing with the Unreal Engine. -
I don't need a Masterpiece Gestalt. At this point, I'd be happy with a Classics/Universe Motormaster.
