When were they ever black? The G1 toys were purple, and although they don't really look like treads in the simplified cartoon look, Devastator has purple bands running down his sides where the treads should be. Purple treads are the reason why Scavenger has purple legs, for pete's sake.- 17162 replies

Got tired of having four limbs and no torso, so I ordered CW Optimus from Amazon, as he was a little cheaper than Silverbolt. Should be here tomorrow.- 17162 replies

Hey, if you're into the deactives, more power to you! They're pretty easy exclusives for me to pass on, though. SEED's not my favorite series, and although I do rather like Freedom (just regular Freedom, not Strike Freedom), I'm not a huge fan of the mobile suits in SEED. Building the regular RGs, especially with their heavy backpacks, was enough for me. That RX-78 Casval, though... a part of me says it's too red, and the regular RX-78-2 and RX-78-3 are plenty. A part of me secretly lusts after it, though. My favorite RG exclusive, though, is still Zeta 3. I don't care if it's pink when it really should be more of a bluish purple, Zeta 3 is so much sexier than regular Zeta.

It's not that I really mind getting a Combiner Wars Defensor, or that Blades is a redeco of Alpha Bravo, even though I don't think they look that similar. I just really want Bruticus, given that Alpha Bravo looks exactly like Vortex.- 17162 replies

I bought a copy today, and I really liked it. In fact, I think it passed up Lilo and Stitch as my favorite Disney movie (although I haven't seen Wreck It Ralph). (And yes, I have seen Frozen. Many, many, MANY times, as it's my buddy's daughter's favorite. Big Hero 6 was definitely better.) I don't follow the oscars, as the whole shebang strikes me as an already narcissistic industry patting itself on the back, but was the Lego Movie up for awards this time or last time? It seems like it's been out for awhile. In any case, aside from "Everything Is Awesome" deserving to win the best song in a movie award every year from now until forever, I thought Big Hero 6 was better than the Lego Movie.

I've heard that Guntank is confirmed for Revive, but I haven't seen any pictures. I've seen the Origin Guntank, and while it does look less derpy and more badass than the regular Guntank, it also looks more like a tank than a mobile suit. Which, y'know, fits to the story and the UC timeline and all, but doesn't really do anything for me.

I don't see myself buying another HG RX-78, since I already have an HG (maybe version 2?) RX-78-2 that I repainted as an RX-78-1, and RG RX-78-2, and I plan to buy the RG RX-78-3. I really like the idea, though. A lot of popular mobile suits were done earlier in the HGUC line, something like 15 years ago, and it shows. If stuff like Qubeley, Zaku III, and Hyaku Shiki wind up in the Revive line before the RG line, they could be must-buys for me. Heck, I don't have a Guncannon yet (I've kind of thought the Guncannon looked a little derpy), and the Revive version looks almost badass.

Yeah. I mean, the guy that did this is an arsehole, and I hope he gets what's coming to him and all... but I don't have a ton of sympathy for the kid. He just learned a valuable life lesson: don't trust strangers on the internet.- 6894 replies

The most irritating thing about it, though, is that you can't entirely blame the AoE toys still clogging the shelves. Hasbro is obviously capable of getting new stock to retailers, and retailers putting out said stock, because my local Target (which has had no newer CHUGs since Rattrap/Tankor on the Deluxe side and Whirl and Rhinox on the Voyager side) currently has a RiD section up bigger than the remaining AoE and CHUGs combined. So if I want an under-engineered Bumblebee from a cartoon that isn't out yet, no problem, but if I want the first Hasbro toy of a G1 character that's been around nearly 30 years, tough crackers, because I will NEVER see it in stores. Yeah, for $20-$25-ish I didn't expect him to be. Heck, new MPs have come out that are as expensive or more so than MP-10 without being that good. A better question is, how's CW Optimus compared to the original Classics Optimus?- 17162 replies

First Alpha Bravo replaces Slingshot, now I'm hearing some truck dude named Offroad is replacing Wildrider. WTF, Hasbro? It's like you say Generations are for older collectors, you're finally giving us combiners after telling us for years that you won't do combiners, but you still keep doing little things to screw it up. Look, the fans are willing to give you their money. Stop making excuses, stop with the wonky distribution, and stop making changes nobody wants.- 17162 replies

Man, I'd love to find Powerglide. I never liked the original CHUG Ultra-class version, and the weapons that come with the limbs look like twigs in the gestalt hands.- 17162 replies

Found an Alpha Bravo, so I picked him up. Due to the Scramble City-ish gimmick of using universal joints and the ability to be both arms and legs, the quality of bot mods are going to be pretty much the same across the board. Alpha Bravo has the same amount of articulation as Dragstrip, Firefly, and Skydive, so if you read what I wrote about them, apply it here. One thing I will note is that it's kind of nice the way the rotor blades are on attached to a bar on a pivoting arm. You bend the blades in, and pivot the arm up just a bit, and the blades tuck nicely between the tail fins. Helicopter mode is serviceable, too. It doesn't have the chibi look like the jets do. There's the noticeable arms, not as nice as Dragstrip's car mode but better concealed than the jets with molded missiles on the sides and backs of his forearm. Another running theme is that the individual bots' arms don't seem to have a place to go when in arm mode, so they all make better legs. With all four wave 1 combiners, I can say that the bot mode arms make the jets the weakest legs, and while they don't have much place to go in arm mode Skydive's arms at least peg onto hi swings, and Firefly at least folds his arms over his back and hides his hands behind his wings. Dragstrip, as I mention, just kind of puts his arms over his head in a sort of "duck and cover" pose. Alpha Bravo, though, is the worst arm. His transformation has tabs on his waist that go into slots just under his elbow. It keeps his arms pegged in place fine for leg and helicopter mode, but for arm mode it gets in the way of the gestalt's elbow. Besides, while all the limbs plug into a foot part the same way, the Alpha Bravo's feet (the top of the helicopter cockpit) matches a molded curve on the foot part. Now all I need's a torso!- 17162 replies

I never "watch" reviews. I can read much, much faster than most people speak. When it comes to written reviews, I mostly read Syd's stuff over at Gaijin Gunpla. If he hasn't reviewed a kit, I'll take a peek at photos at Gundam Guy or solicit opinions in this thread, but honestly reviews seem to matter to me a lot less for gunpla than other stuff like Transformers and what not. It usually boils down to: A - Do I want this MS in my collection? B - Is this the best 1/144 scale representation of said MS? If it's an RG, the answer to both is (so far, anyway) yes, so I buy it. If it's the most recent HG release of a given suit, it gets a little more complicated. If the MS in question isn't Federation/Titan/Zeon/Neo Zeon, then I'll probably pass. I just don't have the same attachment to, say, a Tieran, a Zoloat, Den'an Gei, etc, that I do to a Zaku, a GM, a Marasai, or a Qubeley. If it's a Gundam or other hero suit, I'm interested, and more interested the newer the kit is, unless I think there's a good chance that it'll get an RG. For example, I bought the new HGUC Turn A, Crossbone X1, Victory, and F91 because they're newer kits with modern engineering, and I don't see them getting RGs any time soon. I'm not building an HG Hyaku Shiki or ZZ because they're older and I'd prefer to wait for a possible RG, however long that might take.

If I find them, I'll complete Superion and Menasor, and I'll probably grab Optimus Prime, too. Defensor isn't really doing anything for me, and while I don't think Devastator looks bad for a Hasbro toy, the individual Constructicons do, especially at that price. If/when they get around to the other combiner teams, I'd love a Bruticus, Predaking, and Abominus, could be tempted by Computron or Piranacon, and have no interest in Monstructor. The fan combiner entirely depends on whether or not it's a new combiner made of existing characters I want, or if it's all new. As for non-combining CWs or CWs that will have the ports but aren't members of a team, I want that Ultra Magnus, I might be tempted by Armada Megatron, and that's about it.- 17162 replies

Three days? That's slow for me. I usually finish RGs in a day or two, and just a few hours for HGs (depending on how much paint they end up needing).

That's a bummer, but maybe thinking about it as part of the learning process and figuring out what does and doesn't work for your airbrushing. That's just a bummer. At least you got some cool gunpla to get you through it (although I'd be more partial to a Pittsburgh Pensguy). FWIW, I think Zeta 3 was pink in the PSP Gundam Battle games, but it still kind of bugs me (as does Hi Nu's blue). I might be totally wrong, but I've thought of Gundam/Zeta/Nu as "Gundam colors" and G3, Z3, and Hi Nu as Amuro's colors, so those three should be similarly gray, white, and bluish-purple.

The article suggests that the movie will be set in the AC universe, but will be a new story with new charcters. That seems like a smart move to me, depending on Ubisoft's involvement.

Big thanks to davidwhangchoi for helping me get this guy. Not a ton to be said that I didn't say about Zeta the first time around, except that experience did make it easier this time around, and I don't know if I screwed something up the first time or what but his chest and shoulders seem much more stable this time and his neck isn't constantly drooping into his torso, so win this time. I'll also say that I was surprised that the box was much bigger than a usual RG box. This is because, to get some parts in the correct color for Z3, some of the runners are doubled or tripled, forcing you to check the enclosed insert to make sure you're using not just the right part but the right part off of the right runner. It seemed a tad wasteful, too... there are three E runners (which is a big one), and you literally only use one of them for one part. Oh well. I'm saving the extra parts. If I ever come across a service that sells replacement runners, I'll buy just the non-duplicated runners and build a third Zeta. Maybe build a Zaku Head. Shame with all those extra runners they still couldn't throw in an RG Hyper Mega Launcher. Also, in a first for me with RGs, I actually painted a little black into the verniers on its shoulders and did some panel lining on the white and gray parts. I think it looks good. It's funny, my wife asked me if it was a mobile suit for a girl, because of the pink (side note, when did Z3 become pink? Wasn't it originally more purple, so the color scheme was closer to G3 and Hi Nu?). Pink or not, I think Z3 is much more striking visually than the regular Zeta, so I'm really glad to have this kit in my collection.
