MechTech,
I'll get you a quote this weekend. I need to scale my models down to 1/200 and see what detail can be produced.
Thanks,

Very sweet! I may have to send you some stuff Thor.
michaelwaynenellis@yahoo.com is my e-mail
i need .stl files already in the size/scale you want and i can give you a quote.
it takes about 10 days to turn things around after payment.
hollow your parts out to at least 1-2mm thick.

1/48 bout time.. question now is will this be available to the masses? =)
is a frogs arse water tight!?
hahaha

The missiles came out great! How about some 1/200th ones - MT
I can quote you a price to print out some just for you....i'll have to check the minimum wall thickness of the printer. You could then cast them yourself?
I use our 3d printer at work and my company charges me per cubic inch of material.
poor/fuzzy picture of my 1/48 destroid: barrel a little bit too long....hahaha
so freakin cool!

1/32nd huh? Are there already plans in the works? I have a short list of projects and a VF-1 in that scale is at the top of it.
1/32 vf-1 is a dream of mine. hopefully soon to be a reality...

Thanks
How long did it take to scan the missiles? The results look good. And what modelling program are you using there, it looks a bit like NURBS? Is that model derived directly from the stl file or did you need to trace?
Thanks again.
I use Solidworks9 right now and use calipers/micrometers to reverse engineer the parts and interpret line art, etc. Takes me a few hours each part depending on the shapes and details. Once done in solidworks I can scale it to any size I want keeping in mind the size of the printer i might use and trying to hollow stuff out as you are usually charged by the volume of material used to make your part.
Scanning is my next step. I'll post scans of various items in a few weeks as i'm waiting for a higher powered laser with a very small diameter beam to show up at my door.

I don't suppose anyone knows what sort of price range is involved in getting small stuff scanned into 3D files?

The masters will be printed in 3d using SLS (Selective Laser Sintering) & cleaned up by me wherever i'm not satisfied with the surface finish.
I doubt I'll be able to do PE for a little while unless I find out it's terrible easy to do. I bought the Micro-Mark kit and it's on the way so I can start tinkering.
Here is the model of a tire I made in 1/24th scale in Solidworks 9:
Here is that tire printed out (on left) using SLS (low resolution):
These are exciting times because I can print anything I can draw in just about any scale....
