Why don't Yamato makes Mospeada Toys?
VF5SS replied to Agent-GHQ's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
it's just another 80's robot show. There's nearly three dozen of those. I'm not trying to pass judgement on its content, but you have to understand that Japan's disposable pop culture has created hundreds of "cult classics." The only remarkable thing about it was the mechanical designs which, both past and present, have been poor sellers as far as merchandise goes. -
Why don't Yamato makes Mospeada Toys?
VF5SS replied to Agent-GHQ's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
This from Roger Harkavy's Imai Files PDF you can find online. It's pretty damning proof of Mospeada's failure. Southern Cross isn't really any more or less recognized than Mospeada is in Japan. It's more due to its lack of merchandise because both Takatoku and Imai had hit major financial problems in 1984. There's also the Big West and Tatsunoko split between licensing in Japan. -
lawl y did i post this I'll let you guys know if they refuse to cancel my pre-order and don't refund my money. They probably will though. I had sent an email before posting this :x

Why don't Yamato makes Mospeada Toys?
VF5SS replied to Agent-GHQ's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Because Mospeada was a failed show that doesn't garner as much attention as it seems to. -
I got a pre-order in at HLJ and Locus Hobby. If I can't cancel the Locus one, does anybody want it?

The Hidetaka Tenjin Interview Project (post questions here!)
VF5SS replied to Tochiro's topic in Movies and TV Series
-Did you really draw a Mirage Knights insignia on that one VF-25A :3 -
You guys can relax. Shapeways is 3d printing made to order :3
-
They are normally cast in white and can be dyed in several colors by shapeways. You can also use your own plastic dyes or acrylic paints to color them yourself. As noted, Shapeways's gray dye gives them a slightly purple gray color.
-
Because the parts aren't universal like the VF-1 shoulder hinge, any bundles will be separated into left and right.
-
We're doing both the left and right shoulders and also the elbows. You guys can let me know if you want everything listen individually (like one right shoulder replacement is its own entity) or bundled (like right shoulder and right elbow in one order). Shapeways's flat rate shipping makes it so having multiple models on order no a big issue.
-
I also recommend checking Yahoo Japan auctions. Services like Celga and Rinkya act as middlemen and I find that even with extra fees they can be better than the gouging ebay crowd.
-
A lot of that is just little tolerance issues that can be fixed with a little glue, nail polish, paint, or whatever you like to thicken things. I'm not saying the toy is perfect but there are ways to do a little maintenance if you wish to keep the figure for a long time.
-
Meh. Scorthed Earth reviews aren't that helpful. Loose joints on the VF-0 are easy to fix.

The Hidetaka Tenjin Interview Project (post questions here!)
VF5SS replied to Tochiro's topic in Movies and TV Series
neat. Ok I got one so far. "Japanese model kits and toys have a long tradition of beautiful painted box art. What particular pieces were the most influential on you as an artist?" -
[I'm starting a new thread for this for clarity. Right now we are working on the elbow and shoulder. Designed by a fellow CDX reviewer, Anavel (Gatooooooooo~) It will be sold through the Veef Shop http://www.shapeways.com/shops/veefshop It is not ready yet, however the first results are promising.

Honestly if the inclusion of internet market research seriously scared them off that much then the production was probably teetering on cancelling to begin with. As a business, they should be able to use some common sense to determine that the source of the backlash is not an audience they should be worrying about. It all seems to add up to more cracks in the facade that Robotech is a huge property of great importance.

Vernier vs Burner - have the translations been wrong for years?

Vernier vs Burner - have the translations been wrong for years?
VF5SS replied to sketchley's topic in Movies and TV Series
He's saying he doesn't understand the layout of a Valkyrie's vernier system since it would have some significant fuel lines to get propellant to each thruster. I mean you can just stare at all those cutaways drawings in the vain hopes of understanding what's going on. Or just sit back and look at all the pretty people and their elaborate outfits because those are far more realistic than any Valkyrie :3 -
Generally you do not cater to the unpleasible hardcore fans as they are your smallest audience. Gauging the reactions from potential new fans and a wider audience is better. Beast Wars would have probably been killed if put in the same situation as RT3k Now are you saying everyone regardless if they were a fan or not panned it? Because in the end you only have to convince sponsors and a network to air it. Did uncle Carl's charms lose their power?

I don't think anyone wants to read something that includes the word "Gitmo."
