Macross Frontier Mecha/Technology Thread *Read 1st post*

Well considering the battroid mode was made for the purpose of going hand to hand with giant aliens, I can see how its obviously maneuverable enough for CQC. The knife is probably a vibro blade or like Graham suggested has a PPB or something to make it go through armour like butter. Is there lineart for this? 1stly, if the gunpod folds and is stored, does that mean the firing mechanisms are only located in the 1st half of the gunpod? I don't remember the firing ports on the Bandai VF-17S....gotta go home and check but in any case the gunpod doesn't fold and store on the legs. But if the gunpod fires from the bottom of the fighter, whereas it opens up in the opposite direction in battroid mode...wow that just means the legs area is hollow and there's no place to have engines. Or am I misunderstanding your description of where the gunpod fires in fighter mode? -

Yeah I was talking about the VF-17....i was always perplexed by how the gunpod is able to be stored in the legs in battroid mode (space does not seem to allow it) and what more its able to open from the knee section to fire in fighter mode , as shown in Macross7. So it would be interesting to see a re-engineering or at least see how Kawamori designs the leg compartments. Or maybe there is such line-art that I have not seen. Considering anything that comes out from the legs to date was not successfully translated into the toys like the YF-19/VF-11 missile launchers. If the wrist and elbow lasers are one in the same, it does make sense, based on the position of the lasers on my Bandai VF-17S. I just didn't know that it was able to fire from the wrists as well in battroid mode. -

Deleted elbow beam guns? But from the Shounen Ace manga we still can see the elbow lasers in Gerwalk mode. Ooh and didn't know it had wrist beam guns as well. Don't know if those things are micro missiles launchers though. I'm more curious on the gunpod's placement which is still a mystery to me since the VF-17. There was one scene where It apparently can fire in fighter mode and it seems to be stowed on the knees when it should be the side of the legs. -

I got no proof of this but it would seem that maneuverability isn't much of an issue in Macross. Even the X-9 Ghost itself is mighty maneuverable and it doens't need the Q-rau inertia vector control whatchamacallit which led to my conclusion that the Q-rau's inertia doodad is supposed to give the maneuverability without making the pilot in the cockpit into tomato juice. But otherwise its not explicitly mentioned about inertia cancellers so I guess i'll be like you and chalk it up to artistic license like sounds in space. Nah didn't take it negatively. -

It seems to me they have artificial sunlight from the dome already. But again...good point. -
Haven't watched it yet. You mean he loaded a single shell...pumped, fired, load another shell, pumped, fired? Odd.

Good point. If the sky is a projection from the dome, why have the glass at all? Just leave it closed. -

That's a rather short description....and its not an inertia canceller. The YF-21 has what the compendium quotes: "Quaedluun-Rau battle suit's special inertia vector control system" which I assume is some hi-tech inertia canceller or at least something that makes it able to turn very fast without adversely affecting the pilot. And yes inertia cancellers are now still the stuff of sci-fi. But this is overtechnology we're talking about here. -

Yeah, that would be the Inertia Canceller. Removing gravity on a pilot doesn't remove the inertia he feels when doing g-defying turns. At least up to Macross Plus, it would seem the inertia canceller is limited as Isamu still had to do the "neck straining thing" when he does loops and those quick turns. The most crazy case of that neck straining thing is seeen in M3 OP where max and miria battle a squad of rogue zentraedis and dodging missiles. They were even using their legs and bodies! I think most ppl's necks would've broke. hahaha. -
9 out of 10. Its really awesome and fun to watch with a slight quantum physics time travelly thing goin for it

I really love the proportions of this toy more than the Yamato. But oh well.

Hikaru does those in the 2nd episode of SDF Macross. And from the next episode preview, it would seem that Alto was able to hold his ground well against the hammerhead aliens after presumably grabbing Ranka from the floor. Based on the preview, what presumably happens is Ozma comes in and rescues Ranka and Alto in the nick of time....distracting red mecha, and asking Alto to run and take Ranka with him. He does that....and somehow lost hold of Ranka in the process and she gets sucked out of the dome's hole. Ozma eventually saves her. And like i said dude...its just the 1s episode and you're watching some weirded subs. -

Watch the Shinsen subs again and get back to us. It seems to me you lost most of the conversations Alto had with himself and his friends. He has a passion to fly a valkyrie but can't due to something not revealed yet. When he graduates, the best job most likely for him is a shuttle pilot flying predetermined paths. He wants to be free. To fly in the sky without a barrier. He wants to be...Mr Valkyrie Pilot. "Kyunnn kyunnn...kyunnn kyunnn.....watashi no kare wa pilotoooo" -

The manga does seem abit more on the "moe" side. But IMHO this isn't one of the worst char designs in Macross. I feel that category goes to Macross Plus, designed by Masayuki. The sharp noses and flat faces were more evident there giving it a really retro anime look. -
I still think it just means "ZOMG DA CULTURE!" Just like "Basara De Kulcha!!" uttered by Chlore and her female warriors in the episode Fleet of The Strongest Women.

From SDF Macross ep 1 all we know about Hikaru is he came to South Ataria island to meet his "sempai". And from Mac7 ep 1 all we know about Basara is he's a rock star and somehow he has a valkyrie and he's flying around shooting speaker pods at the enemy while singing. Gosh guys its just ep 1. You're only saying these things cause the next episode is 4 months later. -

Yeah...that's what I meant. That's the way it should be. Otherwise they might as well take stills from the anime and put speech bubbles on them. -

So if what we've seen is the director's cut, what you think might be cut from the original ep? Probably Sheryl's T&A? -
Awww...poor Dante. And here I thought that the rest of the world has moved on and "Geek" is the new "Jock".
