  1. After watching the episode a few times, I have to say this was my least favorite out of all of them. I think this episode gave a glaring reminder to me as to why I'm not very fond of Alto. In my opinion, there's just not a lot of depth to him. I'm more fond of his supporting cast. I was hoping we'd get more of an understanding on what makes him tick (besides the obvious flying), his evolving relationship with Ranka & Sheryl (which after watching this episode I'm in limbo as to who he'd end up with). Perhaps I expected to much after a two week break. Anywho, back to things that happened in the episode. Alto was right when he told Sheryl that to Ranka the kiss just isn't a kiss to her back in episode 10 (her face blushed when she touched her lips remembering their on screen kiss), while to him it was just a kiss (or so it seems). I really felt for her when she was by herself with that green squirrel at the end of the episode. Even though the cookies were bitter she wanted to give Alto a ticket to her first concert (they always say when big events happen you want the people you care about the most to share that moment with you) so for her to spend what little free time she had spending it with Alto and for him to send Michael to tell her that he wasn't coming, what uh....hmm i'd use a swear word here but I won't. Here's hoping that the next episode is more interesting! Oh and I agree with a previous poster on the almost halfway through the series and there are still a lot of questions to be answered.
  2. I think people can relate to her more than Ranka (just my opinion). For those of you who are married like me, my wife drove me nutz, challenged me, etc. so I can see how I'd more biased towards her. It's been said people are attracted to imperfections and Sheryl has a lot of them. However, after rewatching all the episodes though I'm up in the air as to who Alto would end up with if at all. I think someone said it best earlier that Sheryl is Sheryl, Ranka is Ranka in terms of how the story is going to turn out even though they've taken a lot from SDF.
  3. Hmm...I agree with Sheryl too. Yes, Ranka has an innocence about her, but as of now she looks like a kid. I really don't see them being a match in the physical sense. As for Sheryl & Alto haven't you guys ever seen couples who hated each other first but grew to love each other? Hate & Love stem from the same emotion. I'm thinking Sheryl & Alto will hook up. I think they kinda sent that message with Mao being played by Ranka (Mao doesn't get Shin in M0).
  4. I see that there are 14 episodes for Macross Frontier so far on wikipedia is that all the episodes that we'll be getting? I thought there would be 25 or 26 for some reason. Sorry if it was asked before I tried using the search engine I got an error message!
  5. No mecha action but I loved this episode, what a nostalgia effect it had on me bringing in macross zero story lines! I don't know if anyone else thought of this but in the kiss scene between Alto and Sheryl the music they used reminded me of the old love scenes in the old james bond movies haha! I wasn't sure if Alto was going to end up with Sheryl or Ranka but I think after watching this episode and seeing how things have progressed that Alto and Sheryl would be the better match. I think Sheryl made a good point when Alto said its just a kiss and he can handle it, and then getting kissed by sheryl and seeing his reaction. I think she goes into her mocking phase after the situation gets a little serious when they look at each other, but she proves a point a kiss isn't just a kiss as Alto says. Can't wait for next week's episode. P.S. Interesting theories some of you guys have.
  6. Me again, I just got around to ordering the fast packs for my 1/48 and have opted to change it back to fighter mode which I've suceeded in doing. I do have a problem though the arms seem to "hang down" and dont seem to stay in place. If I move the figher just a bit the arms just sink down. I've tried looking for some kind of tab to lock the arms into place but haven't found any. Any ideas orr is that just a fragile part of the toy and something I"ll have to live with?
  7. anyone have a pic of that sculpt? I've seen the prototype for the first edition yf-19 and i'm anxious to see what the new one looks like even if it is a sculpt.
  8. Agony!!?!? My wife said she would divorce me if I didn't turn the damn computer off!! And that's the edited version of what was said!! That's not good she used the "divorce" word...better go kiss and make up!!!

    which vf-1s

Since you like both YOU decide. Me personally I like Roy's but thats b/c I love robotech and there is no red vf-1s in that series.

    Yamato 1/48 M&M

I hope you wouldn't throw your 1/60's and if you have the 1/60 FP M&M they are still pretty good. Heck before I bought my M&M 1/60th's I saw the pics from Macrossworlds toy sections and the detail (at least for me) is good enough that I don't feel I need to get a 1/48th M&M. 1/48th's are great but I love 1/60's too. They are cheaper, smaller, and at least to me A LOT more durable due to the increase in die cast they use. I love my 1/48th VF-1S that I have out but transforming that thing isn't something I like doing too often and in fact I have my 1/48th in battroid mode permenantly. For me personally i get 1/48th's of planes I truly loved and there's a poll around these threads and sure enough the vf-1s, vf-1j, and yf-19 seem to be taking top honors. So for me anyways getting my favorite ones in 1/48th for nostalgia is great for me otherwise its 1/60 for me oh and the 1/72 Yf-19 fp if it EVER comes.

    Customizing toys

I dont think they'd do individual custom toys it would just be to much work. However, isn't it possible for them to make a blue rose or some other kind of color scheme valkyrie for the 1/48 line? Like how they made the low vis 1/48's to 5000 can't they do something like that?
  12. Gotta agree VF-1S is the most popular (and it is a kick butt plane) however its YF-19 for me!!!
  13. Have you thought on getting a toynami valkyrie?? If you go to the valkyrie-exchange http://www.valkyrie-exchange.com/frames.html you can buy the max/milia vf-1j for a reasonable price of $40 dollars I believe and the toynami valkyries are a bit more playworthy than yamato's just an idea.
  14. I applied pressure on the cockpit cover (underneath the chestplate) and slid it down using my finger as it came down I used my other hand to keep bringing the cockpit cover down eventually I was able to bring the chestplate down and you should hear a snap as the cockpit is covered by the shield. I can't describe it any better than that.
  15. Hey if your wondering about toys this site has a lot of info on the brands http://protoculture.lebhead.com/toys/ (I don't think lebhead would mind that i linked his site) it basically goes into details on the brands of toys and what they offer. I'm in the same situation as you!! Still in school but I work part-time to fund my days of fun and of course this hobby of macross..... Flippant has already stated that bandai=play\Yamato=display/collectible I thought about what kind of toy I'd want as well. I very recently got a 1/48th VF-1S and what a pain in the butt it was to transform for the first time. After I finished and had it in battroid mode I said to myself, "Wow that looks beautiful." I thought I had wanted to play with the toy but that hasn't been the case. It's been standing next to my bookshelf in my bedroom these last few days. I plan on getting a doll case or something to keep it from dust and to make it known to my friends that its a look but don't touch item.
  16. Wow, some very interesting responses I have to agree with Graham and cube though I don't believe you need to have a certain "number" of toys/models/books/etc. or even a certain "type" of collectible to be considered a Macross/Robotech fan. Collect what you want as Graham said and I certainly fit in that category, there are some types of mecha that I don't like for example, the yf-21 (I like the vf-22s) I like the yf-19 (I don't like the VF-19s/d) and the 1/48 is a beautiful toy but when I look at a 1/60 it MAY not be as detailed but the 1/60 yammies are still beautiful and definitely resemble what I loved as a kid. Besides they're cheaper and smaller. I'd say get what brings you that nostalgia effect your looking for. For myself personally....in Robotech the VF-1S was my favorite mecha and getting that item whether it be the 1/60 or 1/48th (I have both) reminds me of what a great anime series and how much I loved the characters Rick/Roy...Roy for being just Roy and Rick for becoming a superb pilot and whisking away Lisa Hayes what a great love story that was!! In Macross plus Isamu was such a character and the way he flew the craft in the series definitely made me invest in the vf-11b and (I hope we find out soon on this yf-19 fastpack) mecha. For ME these items make me feel like I'm a fan, and whatever else I collect just adds on to that Macross/Robotech admiration I have.
  17. Some of you guys are crazy how do you afford all that???? anyways... 1/72 - (1) Vf-11b MISB YF-19 fastpack should it ever come.... 1/60 - (4) VF-1S strike MISB VF-1J super M&M MISB (only 55 bucks each at bigbadtoys!!!) VF-1J super MISB 1/48- (2) VF-1S on display!!!! VF-1A max MIB I plan on getting the YF-19 should it come in a 1/48th scale I probably won't add to many more valkyries maybe another 4 or 5 tops not sure on scale On a side note though I think the smaller yamato's are nicer due to the fact that they are SMALLER I just dont have the room to display those 1/48ths and the 1/60's and 1/72's are about half of what a 1/48th cost. Just my two cents.
  18. The toy is absolutely beautiful as it should be for spending over a $100 bucks on it. This is a collector's item so I'm in no way planning on transforming it back and forth although to be quite honest now that I understand how it works it isn't toooo difficult. Even ithough I followed the directions as closely as I could understand them I had to apply quite a bit of pressure...something I wasn't to fond of doing. Some things I noticed though and I wanted to share my experience. 1) The legs needed quite a bit of force to get out...with a toy that expensive I'm not to keen on transforming it again and again...but I have to admit its not as fragile as I thought it would be. 2) the arms were the easiest thing to transform. 3) When you bring the nosecone down to change the gerwalk to battroid mode on the backside you have to open up a hatch so the swing bar has something to attach to. At first I thought the swing bar HAD to be pushed in this is NOT the case. Merely put the swing bar where it seems it would fit and then put the cover on top of the swing bar and push the cover (not the swing bar) and you should hear snap and waala its attached!!! 4) The lasers and hands are very fragile you've heard it on the forums well I'm telling ya its the truth dont use those things for leverage if ur transforming. 5) I did have some problems with the head. When you first bring the head out from the gerwalk mode its backwards. you need to twist it around and even then it was flimsy...the head piece to me seemed fragile so I was at a bit of a loss as to what I should do...well AFTER the head is turned around in the correct direction push down...but gently and it should snap into place. 6) the last difficult step i had was bringing the chestplate down. In order for me to get the chestplate to stay down I had to push down the heatshield (the black skull piece that slides over the cockpit) first and once that slid down everything snapped into place. Some other thoughts I'd like to share. The swing bar is very STURY, however, I felt that what the swing bar was attached to from the top to the bottom could be broken off if you swung the toy around during the transformation process. I really believe that you need to have a 1/48 out on display to truely admire the toy....so if you can afford it buy one for display and the other in its box for safekeeping. If I run into any other transformation issues or ideas I'll be sure to post.
  19. Whew just finished transforming the vf-1s to battroid and it was really rough nothing like the transformers I had when I was little. I do have one last question does the head turn right or left? It doesn't seem to move at all and I dont want to force it and break the head off.
  20. Thank you...I feel quite dumb for not checking lol.
  21. Sorry to post this but I just got a 1/48 vf-1s (reissue I think since there are no velcro tabs on the front cover???) anyways it didn't come with any instructions and I'm clueless as to how to transform it anyone have steps that I can follow to change it from fighter mode to battloid mode (where it will stay permenantly). Thanks.
  22. Hey all, Loved some of the models you guys have made and decided to start a new hobby making macross kits(besides collecting the toys) I've started out with the a.r. II 1/100th vf-1s model which I think is a pretty good model for a total newb to start with. Anyways a few questions if you all don't mind.... As I've been breaking the pieces off the plastic tree thingy I notice there are stubs at the end of the pieces how do I go about removing this? This model I think will require some glue to keep everything together will any super glue work? Is there a good way to apply this? (not sure how I'm supposed to put glue to keep the canopy of the cockpit on without making it look terrible) Paint I've been reading, but painting itself I have no clue as to how to apply. Do I just use a brush? Marker? q-tip??? (don't laugh just a thought) I've been looking for a good magazine to keep me up to dates with models/techniques/etc. any good ones? I saw some japanese ones...but i cant read japanese at the moment. I've also been looking for the hasegawa models that I've seen like the yf-19 battroid and other mecha types but I've been unsuccessful finding these any places you guys know of? Lastly, once I finish this model I'd like to go on to something a bit more challenging what kind of model/brand do I go to next? (I'd prefer making either the fighter model or battroid) Thanx all I hope to be posting more with other newb questions.
  23. Hey all, Just wanted to say what a great site and to thank all of you who have contributed to this site I've learned quite a bit over these past few months from this site and what you all have posted. What I'm about to say doesn't really deal with the megaroad as a ship, but rather what happened to the crew (I didn't want to start a new thread figured this one would do the trick). I read up on the newbie questions that there wouldn't be any more stories on Misa and Hikaro. Now I've been into anime for a long time and so I know that most anime feature loss and sometimes even sad endings. However, I was really disappointed in hearing this. Maybe this is just me wanting more than there is to give, but the story of Misa and Hikaro was a very good one and one that took awhile to develop at that. I found those two to be a much more interesting pair than Max and Milia Genius (although they were interesting in their own right). Here in the U.S. if you get the chance to surf the robotech.com website you'll see tons of avid fans asking what happens to them (maybe its us Americans wanting a happy ending all the time). Anyways, I just felt that with all the effort they went through, getting married, and then not much later just disappear seemed kinda like a waste the macross series could have done so much more with where that went in addition to the macross 7 and other macross series. Hopefully I don't get flamed I guess I needed to vent. Oh and can't wait for yamato to finally get the yf-19 fast pack toy out!!!!
