Ace Combat: Assault Horizon
David Hingtgen replied to mikeszekely's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Some notes: Much harder than the demo. There is a "ground assault" version of DFM but you can ignore it most of the time and do it "classic AC style", and it's much more fun that way. (it seems to have issues when you're SUPER low to the ground, strafing) More variation in missions than I expected. AC-130 is totally unique, every heli mission has been different chopper/weapons, just unlocked the B-1B. You can customize aircraft colors. (not "aircrafts" as the game says--sigh, that's becoming as common as "irregardless") Yes, there's a few "plot" chases/kills where "enemy dies only after following him through a valley" ---but most are in the first stage you saw in the demo. Really only seen 2 since. It has made me wonder about the final stage though, as you know there's going to be a tunnel of some sort... F-14 controls correctly! Tailplanes-only with wings swept! F-4 ailerons still wrong though. Everything's faster, roll/pitch-wise. Even the F-4 is fast. Rafale is TOO fast. Gripen's almost too fast. Differences among planes seem marginalized. (since everything's fast, and the really fast ones are so fast you never really use it---you only move the stick half-way to slow it down) Lots of planes unlocked from the beginning. Plane selection seems mainly limited by mission, not so much "what's unlocked". Having the Rafale and F-15E right off the bat seemed kinda pointless---why even have lesser planes then? Haven't used MiG-21 yet, but did have fun with the F-4E. (Sparrows do still rock at long-range, Phoenixes still "not as good as you'd like") IRIS-T is godly. -

I'd sell most all my other valks to get a MAXL Kai. (as in Mylene's, not the quasi-canon non-Mylene MAXL variant) -
What ever happened to MW Co-Founder Shawn?
David Hingtgen replied to Shaorin's topic in MW Site News & Member Feedback
Shawn is currently updating the database/forums etc. I just turned the forums back online to see if it's stable and whatnot. Current skin is only temporary, we'll get it back to "standard MW colors" as soon as we get all the bugs worked out. -
Bumping, as it's the main VF-11 thread but it's fallen outside the default topic view range. Plus--hey Graham, any hints as to the next VF-11B release? Milia M3? VFX-2?

They throw massives bones, and frequently. Just not merchandise-wise. But in many other ways. -

Their other big new show is My Little Pony. (of course, that seems to have more adult fans than kids...) -
Any other "Thing" fans out there?
David Hingtgen replied to HappyPenguins's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Thing -1. Then they could make the sequel to the original, Thing 2. Then it gets all Seussian. -
Yup, don't worry about Ebay--sell it here! Always plenty of willing valk buyers for most any type.

No.

With the cost (and shelf space) of valks nowadays, I've pretty much given up on "multiple versions of the same basic design" and try to have as "different-looking" as possible. I even plan to get down to just one VF-1. That gives me a slight dilemma: I *really* like the VF-25's armor, IMHO it's the defining feature of the VF-25----a very skinny battroid so that it can equip bulky armor yet still TRANSFORM, unlike the VF-0/1/11 "battroid only" armor. And armor=Ozma. However, it is yet again the "black and yellow skull" markings, so it's not THAT different from my Roy. And, you almost never see it with boosters--would almost seem a waste to spend the money on boosters for it. Alto's has a fairly unique scheme to me (I have never owned a Hikaru valk) and is commonly seen with boosters, and occasionally with armor so "every configuration" is justified spending the money to acquire the parts. But I already have the model kit, so it wouldn't seem "that new" to me. Plus--no giant skull on the back. (and it just plain doesn't look as cool with the armor IMHO---the armor seems to work better with the darker colors) ::edit:: A final option could be to acquire a V2 Milia VF-1 and sell my V2 Roy, but that would be $$$$$ at the moment. (I really hope for a Milia VF-11B to be released, that would be very unique)

Yeah, I'll definitely snag Prime Arcee. I'd love an Airachnid too, but that design seems nigh-impossible to translate into reality. I'd buy a Knockout fig, too, I think. Decepticon cars=awesome.

I think the actual word "Macross" is said most often in Frontier, especially by Captain Wilder. Just listen to him.- 7072 replies

I voted 5000B. (I love the 5000, but never liked the M7 color scheme)

Ace Combat: Assault Horizon
David Hingtgen replied to mikeszekely's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
The F-2 is overall about 25% bigger than an F-16. Fuselage stretch, bigger wings, bigger stabs. -
Not enough to tell him apart from any other "dark silvery-grey Decepticon" in the movie trilogy.

Best commercial ever? Certainly "most VG references in a commercial ever". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mdWkKKSckNk

Since the armor and boosters are highly color-coordinated in Frontier, I wouldn't expect it to be available separately. They'd have to have a half-dozen different packs for Alto, Ozma, Luca, etc. With the VF-1, the only difference is a single sticker most of the time for DYRL for the 3 most popular schemes so it was sold separately---but note that you can't buy Max and Millia's highly-custom-colored TV-armor separately, only bundled. A separate armor release is only viable if it can be used with many previous valk releases--and that won't be the case with the -25 due to the many color variations.

Ace Combat: Assault Horizon
David Hingtgen replied to mikeszekely's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I abandoned NOE flying in about the first 10 secs due to sight/targeting issues. I was always above the buildings. Again--I moved constantly to avoid fire, rather than ducking behind obstacles. Shin--the F-16 has always been low-tier in AC. It's often the first plane available (as it's multi-role) because they rarely give us the F-4 or F-5 as a lower-ranked option (love it when they do). Also, frankly,---they need room to make the Mitsubishi F-2 "that much better than the American F-16" while not making it top-tier. -

I personally really liked the heli controls after a few minutes. In short---cross your analog sticks. That should be what you're doing 90% of the time, to really take advantage of how a heli can move. As for tail rotor hittings buildings and being fine--well, I honestly don't think I ever hit anything in the heli... Heath---yes, it does seem to be "magically regenerating". I wonder if there'll be a realism option---certainly they'll have to change it for Ace mode, or there won't even be an Ace mode if you have effectively infinite health. -
Had we gotten a G1-ish, logical leader with a cool voice in the movie, I'd agree. But we got a grunting brute with no characterization. He was a cyclops, and that was about the only thing in common with the original. (and he wasn't even purple)

F-35B makes first landing on USS Wasp: (man, I just can't get over how fragile and drag-inducing the aux intake door looks, compared to the sleek folding doors on the X-35)

Leader Megs is an obviously awesome choice but Soundwave? I mean, how can he transform "more accurately/better" into a big pile of nothing than the Voyager version does?
