  1. Got mine! At first glance, it seemed a little pricey considering the scale. But then I got to look over the details and size it up in comparison to the old Arii fleet, and was pleased as punch. Thanks so much for making this kit possible! All the little hardpoint ports and other details scattered around its surface are amazing! Given the thing's simple color scheme in the show, I hope I can paint it up well enough to do it justice. Sure, a unique box would have been nice... but the box would only get stored someplace out of site anyway. Seriously - I feel bad hiding away Kamjin's spiffy little box. Now to figure out what to do about a stand that will look nice, but still sort of fit in with the vintage stuff. Humnnn....
  2. I don't believe Yaco's involved with these forums. He's in Japan, and is pretty tight with the Mospeada merchandise companies and Mospeada's creators over there. That he saw fit to buy a whole batallion of Toynami's Regults says a great deal in favor of Toynami's work on this product. Japanese collectors don't seem to give a 5hit about the term "robotech" being attached to a Macross product... Good for them.
  3. MOSPEADA blogger "Yaco" like the Toynami Regult - He's got at least nine of them! http://wildcats.pupui.jp/mt/archives/2010/03/post_254.html
  4. Check your PMs, RogueTrooper! I also checked my original edition Yellow Sub Defender, and it doesn't have decals and doesn't seem to indicate that it ever had any. Admittedly, I'm not the first owner, but the instructions don't seem to note any decals and the person I bought it from didn't say it had any or not.
  5. Wow, that is really nice, and very inspiring - especially the brush-only paint work! I've got the 1/144 Defender and DYRL Nosjadeul-Ger and plans to make a diorama at some point. I have a decal for the 1/144 blue Matchbox Phalanx toy's missile hatch, and the decals for the Takatoku Conversion Destroid set. I could scan them and perhaps you could use them to make some sort of frisket or whatnot.
  6. When Jacob sat down next to the Man in Black there at the end of the story, the first thing that came to my mind (and my mouth!) was "Morning, Sam. Morning, Ralph."
  7. I've also used Carnauba wax to polish ABS to a shine in instances like that. My local hobby shop used to sell little jars of it, labelled "The Treatment", but I think you can get it in auto parts shops. It has worked really well for me on toys that have become abraised and dulled over time from their original shiny condition. It is a really unfortunate bit of a mess you have there, and it does sound in particular like you might be better served by exchanging it. I haven't heard of anyone having significant issues with these, so your chances are likely better with the exchange to have one without issues.
  8. They seem rather small and light. Have you considered lightly scraping them away with a sharp xacto knife blade? Just very lightly scrape the blade across it a couple of times...
  9. Nice! Nice locale, too!
  10. They can count. Can you use google?
  11. I find that cheap window cleaner - no-name brands with a lot of amonia in them - are great for cleaning away stuff like that. Put in on a paper towel, and rub the marks off with it. I keep it around for most of my plastic toy cleaning needs.
  12. In messing around with mine, I found that the upper legs are made in segments and glued together (which includes a metal rod in the knee area, to prevent drooping over time I assume). With a little careful effort, you can get them apart. It might also provide an opportunity to modify the legs a bit for an enterprising customizer. (Apologies for the lack of reference pics.) I think the only real change I'd like to see in future editions is some change in the "pelvis" assembly that the legs are mounted on. I'd like to see it made a tiny bit longer, to allow more clearance for the main hull over the hips to allow it to turn at the waist a bit more.
  13. I found this in my files, originally posted at (with credit and apologies) figures.com - showing the prototype Heavy Missile type at Toy Fair, I believe.
  14. Sensible! If you ever need any other references, you should just shout out here. I'm sure people would be happy to loan a vintage toy or model kit for reference - or plent of line art - if needed.
  15. Maiden Japan, I'm curious - why did Toynami choose the heavy missile launcher Regult for the next entry, rather than the light missile launcher version (with the horizontal launchers of smaller missiles)? I don't prefer one over the other. But I'm just curious as to what factors were involved in the decision, and if there is/was a light-missile version in development.

    Cleaning

I have several stiff-bristled, fat painting brushes, the kind that you can get several for a dollar for kids' crafts. They can pull up larger layers of dust, but still don't damage the toys' surfaces. For more delicate things, I have a couple of larger powered-cosmetics brushes. They're nicer ones I found at an estate sale unused and are typically more expensive, but you can find more affordable ones at flea-markets or discount stores. Or check the makeup dept at your local Walgreens or whatnot. They've got very delicate, soft but firm fibers that get into lots of textures on toys' surfaces but cover a lot of surface area. I tend to keep one in the corner of whatever display shelving the toys are on display in. That way if I'm admiring or moving them around and I spot some dust (which is a common occurance in the 100+ year old, force-air heat home I have) I can just wipe it away while I'm thinking of it.
  17. Aren't a "Robotech Battlepod" and a "Macross Regult" exactly the same thing? "I want that 2-legged pod thingie designed by Kazutaka Miyatake from that Japanese cartoon..."
  18. The diecast is there because Toynami wanted to produce a classic-style anime robot toy - which means diecast has gotta be there! A giant robot isn't the same without the diecast...
  19. Perordering now! Yay! Just in time for my birthday! (41st)
  20. Which factory? If you mean the 1/100 scale one, I can scan that. PM me.
  21. I suspect that may be close to a final color choice, given the whole colorway seems so strictly based on the anime model, rather than a 'real type' look. I could live with that, though.
  22. 1/100 is a good scale for Macross, with a lot of related mecha support from Toynami, Imai, Arii and Bandai's reissues. Good space-wise, and also displays nicely with 1/144 Gundam items - like HCM. And don't forget the whole Chain Base display.
  23. Tomahawk down! My Imai 1/100 Tomahawk buildup from '86 and my new Toynami Regult!
  24. Another quick comparison of Toynami Regult and Matchbox/Playmates Battle Pod: Toynami Regult and Matchbox Micronized Zentraedi Soldier. 1/18 figure scale?
