  1. Oh, HELL YEAH! I vaguely remember this show! Not the video per se, but robot Dai-X, and those bad guys with the wierd skull-thingies on their eyes. I seem to recall having seen this as a kid, probably some Saturday morning kiddie fodder. But definitely familiar. Soo funky, but still cool as hell for an 80's kid like myself.
  2. Oh, bless you, bless you! I've been resistent to getting any sort of bittorrent programs or anything like that, so this offers a nice alternative. Sure the d'load times are s--t, but I won't complain. All I can say is GOOD LAWD! Too bad I can't save it to h'drive in this format....godd--ned Macromedia Flash...
  3. LMAOROTF! Now that was a robot battle! These kick the s--t outta that corny blenders-on-wheels crap that used to come on TV here in the US, from a coolness factor; I can't even remember what that show was called. The level of sophistication in the Mazinger's control system was pretty neat. Loved that diving tackle finishing move... The costumes were a riot!
  4. Yeah, that's gotta be frustrating for Lou Gigliotti[sp?]. Apparently, the Corvettes seem to have a bit of a problem with the heads grenading just shy of the 50 min mark in races [heard mention that this was a prob last season too?]. F1--and racing in general--tends to be cyclical in nature. Certain teams tend to have periods when they "get it all right," and beat all comers, while everyone else struggles to catch up. It seems safe to say that Ferrari's era of dominance is over [for now], and Renault will be taking up the mantle; for how long, who knows? Oh sure, they won't win every race, but they definitely are the team to beat for now. I was glad to hear Scott Speed's name mentioned--only got to see a few minutes of the race--as being among the field. Cool! America finally has a driver in F1 again!
  5. A nice thought at first, until.... Yamato debuts the large scale Macross [say, 15"-18" in storm attack mode?] to rave reviews and much fanfare. Foregoeing diecast, they use mostly plastics to speed production and save weight, etc. It offers incredible detail and coolness for a toy of its size. But to the shock and horror of would-be collectors everywhere, they decide it will retail for an ungodly sum of $225.99 USD. Panic ensues! protesters take to the streets! there's looting, pillaging! dogs and cats sleeping together! we're talking mass hysteria here!
  6. http://videos.streetfire.net/category/BOOM...6941B671512.htm News footage of the aftermath of the dumb fu-- crashing the Enzo on the PCH. I like the reporter's attempt at describing the car: "...it's an F60 Enzo, that means that this car could be worth up to a million dollars, and very few of these cars are made, so it's definitely a unique breed of Ferrari...." No, you mean it WAS worth up to a million dollars.
  7. Nissan Skyline, Aston DBSR9 add spice to SWC race at Sebring; prove to be well off the pace at the front of the pack though. Hopefully they'll see improvement as the season progresses... In qualifying Aston's fst time: 2:16.010 Skyline fst time: 2:17.284 avg fst time at front: 2:08.7 - 2:09.9 Apparently, neither finished the race, both falling out with mech problems...oh well, at least some new makes are coming to road racing here in the States. In the big show [12 hrs], it appears powerhouse team Multimatic has made Panoz [you read that right, Panoz] the class of the GT2 field, keeping the cars at the sharp end of the pack and pulling off a win; finally giving Series founder Don Panoz a nice feather for his cap [i wonder if it's a coincidence that actor Patrick Dempsey was there as a driver & grand marshal, hyping his efforts to the press about trying to produce a movie about sports car racing; and its premise would center around a Panoz winning at Sebring? hmm ]. Risi made a good show for Ferrari's new F430GT, also one of the field's fastest; a shunt in the closing minutes of the race deprived them of 2nd place though. Could it be? Are other teams finally looking to put Porsche on notice? Oh yeah, Audi wins. Again.
  8. In all honesty, I'd much rather Yamato released a 1/48 ver. of one of these sqn schemes, rather than that "Stealth" version. I just don't like that one or find it all that plausible; really, it's just trying to impose the "now" onto the "then," a current concept in aircraft technology/thinking on a 20 yr old design [a timeless and enduring one, though]. If they'd do one like these, I'd definitely be more inclined to part with the dough for a 1/48...
  9. My thoughts exactly...
  10. Well, these 1/100 versions are certainly no Yamatos from the looks of it; but at $20 apeice, you can't beat that with a stick. The raised Skull & x-bones on the heat shields are a nice touch. But I agree with an earlier-made comment: the opaque canopies in fighter mode are pretty cheesy; c'mon Toynami, it's 2006--you can do better than that? Wasn't the comment made earlier that these seem to be knock-offs [oh, excuse me. that's such an ugly word] or "inspired" by the Banpresto Valkyries? Certainly does look it. What scale are the Banprestos? It would be nice to finally get some enemy mecha, regardless of who produces them. Nice that BBTS is offering them [the VF's] in sets. But hey! Where's Kakizaki's?! It's nice to think I could get nearly all of Skull Sqn for $60, when that won't even get me a set of armor for my one Yamato 1S Roy. It'll be cool to see how these look next to my old Exo Squad Regult, since they seem to be closest to corresponding in scale.
  11. Touted as "the greatest street machine ever" in Popular HotRodding magazine, this custom 'Cuda touts loads of technological and craftmanship ingenuities. "When the vast majority of enthusiasts and industry experts unanimously agree that the G-Force 'Cuda is the best musclecar ever built, it must pack some serious talent. Indeed, the car's technical highlights transcend all the implicit barriers foisted upon streetcars. An all-aluminum 572ci Hemi spits out 870 hp on pump gas. A custom tube-frame chassis anchors the all-aluminum C5 Corvette suspension into place. Out back is a six-speed C5 transaxle. Up front are 15-inch Red Devil titanium brakes with six-piston calipers. The front fenders, hood, and front and rear spoilers are custom molded out of carbon fiber. Curb weight is an anorexic 2,800 pounds--less than a new Chevy Cobalt. Typically, specs play a big part in how impressive a car is perceived to be, but in this case they're merely a list of nice parts. Let us explain. Yes, the specs are very impressive, but they tell nothing about their spatial orientation within the confines of the chassis, how they symbiotically interact to achieve a state of harmony and mechanical nirvana. The 535-pound elephant motor, for instance, is set way back in the chassis behind the front-axle centerline, yielding a front mid-engine layout. The rear-mounted gearbox is positioned so far forward that the front of the trans case is within an arm's-length of the driver seat. The benefit isn't only stellar weight distribution, but a polar moment of inertia a Ferrari engineer would sell his soul for." I'm still undecided on the ultra-low "slammed" look myself. May be a bit too much for the overall look of the car. But I've always liked E-body Mopars. Still an impressive achievement in car building, by any standards....
  12. "...if what we're discovering about the future Toyota 2-seater is true, then the Supra is poised to displace the Nissan 350-Z as Japan's most popular sports car." Hmm, it seems to bear a vague similarity to the 350-Z itself--that, and the Infiniti G35. Looks a little like they were blended in Photoshop or something and, voila! The new Toyota Supra! Oh well, at least they're trying...
  13. Is that the event that the Russian kid came to with the automotiveforums.com Skyline? or am I thinking of the wrong event? How'd it do? From all indications, they will be going pro, and are listed among the '06 competitors in the SPEED World Challenge. If nothing else, it ought to add some spice to the events.
  14. The spots with Arnold are pretty funny. Wierd, but funny. Dai Jo Boo-ee!! Bruce Willis has got some wacky ones too...
  15. Sorry to drag up an incredibly old thread topic. Did anyone know who did the custom job on the red motorcycle helmet? What do the captions on the photo say? It's a dang good looking custom job, and seems a pretty good alternative to the $1K+ for a Yamato resin helmet. The base helmet seems most likely an RJ-Air open face helmet?
  16. Wow. The owner of that car should be pointed out and laughed at publicly. That's the problem with this country--no longer is there any concept of "shame" any more. Somebody should be fuggin' ashamed that they did that to a car. Somebody else ought to be fuggin' ashamed that they took another person's money to paint it to look like that...
  17. DeathHammer: that's a terrible thing to say! Why, women officers are just as competent and capable of doing the job as any man... www.killsometime.com/Video/Files-1952196/Women-Cops.wmv But seriously. Male, female, whatever--anybody that bad ought to have their gun & badge taken away right on the spot. "Just, go home. Go! Hell naw, we ain't givin you a ride in the car, just walk. Go home!"
  18. Well, I have seen worse. Was reading an auto rag [Automobile, IIRC] doing a piece on the upcoming Gallardo spyder, and it was done in a truly grotesque shade, sort of a pastel-powder blue. Seemed to fit right into the backdrop of Miami where the photo shoot was done...
  19. I've not had a chance to go back through all the pages in this thread--forgive me if I ask a redundant question; but why oh why must the VF-0 toys be so danged expensive? The level of detail and coolness in the Yamatos is 2nd to none. But nearly $150US for a toy? Diz-amn! It's still just a toy! I know, the same gripes were heard before the intro of the 1/48 line--but c'mon Yamato. These high prices make it damn hard for some of us Macross fans to support you and obtain all the toys in your lines. I'd love to get more than one 1/48 VF-1, and get all the 1/60 VF-0's they'd ever make, but that's a lotta dough for some dang toys, ya know? But enough of that. If these do well, can we expect the other VF-0 variants to follow in the 1/60 toy line? I've not been able to see Mac 0, but I have seen some google vids using scenes from it. All I can say about the combat scenes is: whoa nellie! That was some nice shiz-nit! Roy Fokker is da man! But I have one problem. Just what is the reasoning in the story behind the existence of the SV-51 [i'm not crazy about that design anyway]? Now, the VF series and the Destroids, we know, are designed/introduced because exploration & study of the Macross lets them know that the next prospective enemy humanity will likely face will include giants. Why would the anti-UN need TF aircraft & mecha though?
  20. Yeah. "What price, integrity?" right? I mean really, how much will human greed lead us to do? Surely the people that did the paint work on this car must have at least thought: "you know, this has got to be some kind of hazard in the making, or something." Is there anything that somebody out there won't do just for the bucks? Apparently, making an otherwise cool and exotic car into yet another tacky display of a disproportionate silliness-to-wealth ratio is not past the "line" that people just won't cross...
  21. I originally looked at the thread title and thought "okay, someone's just re-hashing the old 'what-if-they-made-a-live-action-ver' thread again..." But this is apparently a new [and yet another shameless] attempt by HG to drum up publicity, is it? I went to the Jump Start Productions w'site, and checked out their "new" Voltron demo. All I can say is: Wow. Wow, I didn't think you could make the show any more cheesy and crap-tastic than the original. Yet, somehow, they managed to do it! Amazing. Judging from the quality of that demo, it's probably safe to say any new Voltron series will suck a$$ like a well-paid whore. I'll admit, I remember the old series with a bit of nostalgic fondness. I liked that show as a kid, and watched it regularly. But this one? Yuck! The Robot Chicken spoof skit of Voltron looks better...that is to say; it's been 20 years people. There should have been strides made in the quality of animation, not stagnation [or from the looks of it] steps backwards. Wierd looking char designs, action that appears to merely ape the original show's style. Bleh. At best. Needless to say--and sorry for going the long way around about it--but if this production company makes a LA ver. of Robotech [or any other media for that matter] it will more than likely suck sweaty donkey balls, and put-off any potential new, younger fans to the Robotech franchise with its smelly crappiness. Sometimes I wish I were a well-renowned and famous film critic; if this company did in fact hypothetically make the movie, and if asked at the world-premiere of "Robotech: the movie" what my thoughts were, I wouldn't say a word. I'd merely have someone standing by just off-camera hand me a roll of the film; I'd pull down my knickers, and wipe my arse with the film as demonstration of just what I thought of it. I think the gesture would speak volumes about what I think of HG's handling of the Robotech franchise [and apparently, my utter depravity and lack of manners at the time]
  22. "Robin--what have I done to you?" LMAO! That does NOT look good for ol' Batsy. These are fuggin' hilarious. --Please don't! I'm a diabetic! --That sounds like a job for sugar!
  23. Looks like BMW could be looking to make the Z Coupe its next motorsports mule instead of the traditional M3? Interesting to see if it'll be homologated for any series here in the US, like ALMS or SWC?
  24. Oh, ferchrissakes. That's just fuggin' stupid. This thing is just going to be a display piece of eye-candy, right? There's no telling what sort of accidents would be caused the first time this thing is driven on public streets, say, on a bright sunny day; you're liable [and that's the operative word here, ain't it] to have other drivers blinded left and right if they look in its direction. Let the mayhem ensue....
  25. VF-1 crappy?! BLASPHEMY!! If anything, it could arguably be said that SK has redesigned the VF-1 already, and I'd site the VF-5000 as the example. It seems to bear the most "evolutionary" similarities and design cues like the VF-1. It's funny, but others mention how one of the VF-1's major "improvements" over the VF-0 storywise is it's being smaller [through reverse engineering/overtechnology]. It seems almost too small to me now, as presented in its various media [toys/models/etc]. I always got the impression that it was pretty big when I was younger, watching Robotech as a kid. Then again when you're a kid, everything's huge, I guess.
