  1. Never say never. The power of the $/€/yen can make anything come true.
  2. Macross the First is a manga, we're discussing about an anime remake. In any case I'm sure once Sunrise does the anime adaptation of Gundam The Origin you can bet all you want we will see an animated remake of Macross. Wether or not it will be based on the manga is left to see.
  3. To have a thriving community wether here or out there you need a living franchise. And Robotech as its stands now is not a living franchise, its more like a zombie. Dead yet not quite dead. You simply can't have a healthy community for a franchise that is for all pratical purposes in stasis and has been in stasis for the last 30 years. Once you express your displeasure at how HG is managing the franchise what's left to discuss ? The community withers down because most member just go away for lack of novelty and you're left with the most intransigent, hardcore fans keeping the house.
  4. what exactly was said AT THE PANEL ? Sometimes looking at Robotech conventions information thats leeked seems like "the cousin of my cousin of my cousin told me that that man's cousin told him that...." Hard facts, we want hard facts. How difficult can it be ?
  5. Look as I said remake doesn't equate to burning everything thats already out there. If you don't like a remake don't watch it. Star wars is different because George Lucas actively denies any possibility of the original trilogy ever being shown at the theaters again. For Macross there just isn't this possiblity. And yes remakes mean tinkering with the property, just like in Battlestar Galactica. That was a remake and even though some fans didn't like it because it wasn't 100% like the old show it still stood on its own and was a better show for it. Artistic sensibilities of today are different from those of late 70s early 80s era. Even Macross II LA has shown the it is possible to make an engaging Macross show without having Kawamori. So I guess I just don't get all this "the world is ending" vibe if a new reimagining of Macross is to be made.
  6. A remake doesn't take away the original. So I don't understand what the problem is. Seriously its not as if BW/Studio Nue will suddenly start chasing down all old Macross dvds or Toys and burn them. Remakes if well done can bring new fans to a franchise. Ask a kid today wether they can even watch the original Macross instead of Frontier. I'll bet 99% will say Frontier just because it looks more modern. How many can even watch the original Kyashan tv series, or Tekkaman or Ideon ? Even Tomino is looking to reactualise Ideon and its a good thing because such a masterpiece deserves to be well known outside otaku circles.
  7. I can't sit through any Gundam series except Gundam 0079, 0083, F91, The 08th MS Team, Turn A Gundam, Char's Counterattack and Gundam Unicorn. Can you see I'm a UC fan ?
  8. Ah I see. In this case yes I don't like the Puni Plush style. I think the characters deserved a more mature look. Otherwise you have a very large gap between the the darkness of the story and the cuteness that exudes from Madoka, Sayaka, Homura etc... And in my opinion it just doesn't feel right. Are you sure about this ? Did the authors confirm the use of the Puni Plush style was specifically to shock the audiences with the 3rd episode ?
  9. Oh yeah, I forget how HG gave the go sign to develop Macross II Lovers Again and Macross Plus. Silly me. I'm also a Gundam fan. Does that mean I like every Gundam series, OAVs and films ever produced ? Not a chance in hell. There are some iterations of Gundam I adore, and many others I loathe (either because of its stupid story, or characters etc...). You see my dear friend, Gundam and Macross are extensive franchises. Robotech not so much. In fact as I said before I'm a fan of the Robotech novels but not of the anime version. Hows that for a change ? Ps : Robotech & Shadow Chronicles can't even compete animation wise with 1984 DYRL let alone Macross Plus and Macross II Lovers Again. Of course it is left light years behind by Macross 7 and Macross Frontier. They are just not in the same league enymore.
  10. I can't stand MOE character design. That doesn't mean I hate moe elements in anime, I just can't stand when an entire anime is based upon MOE estetics. And this is the case in Madoka Magica. Whats worse is that you don't even need really moe estetics in Madoka since the story stands on its feet without problem. They should have gone with a more "realistic" or at least a less moe character design and the anime in my opinion wouldn't have suffered in the least.
  11. Why not ? If the design and story can be actualised all the while remaining true in spirit to the original I see no harm. I still hate with a passion Tatsunoko for not coming through with the remake of Hurricane Polymar, although they managed to do the first 2 episodes. And those 2 episodes were excellent to say the least.
  12. Well considering I'm a Macross Fan (even though I hate Macross 7 and Macross Frontier) finding this Macross forum wasn't fortuituous. Of course having a thread where to speak about HG and its idiot policies is just the cherry on the cake.
  13. You're giving too much credit to members of this forum.
  14. +1. I've always thought of Macross II as the Turn A Gundam of the Macross universe. So different mecha wise, character wise from any other macross series that most fans ended up hating it. A real pity, since the VFs in Macross II are some of sexiest and best designs ever.
  15. I sure wouldn't mind a remake. Especially if its based on Macross The First manga.
  16. Sure I'll be more precise then. For european and american audiences learning another latin based language is easier than learning japanese or god forbid chinese. Of course in a group of 30 people you can always find the one gifted for languages and he'll take up japanese as easily as any other language. But in average and considering any kind of metric japanese is objectively more difficult to learn and master than other western languages.
  17. I do say so. Who is talking about fanfiction ? All I'm saying is that the novels offer a better environment to expand the story than the anime. Thats all. HG should have taken as canon the novels and not the anime. The retconing has done more damage to the franchise than siimply discarding the anime as canon and taken the novels as the new canon. HG would have had an already coherent universe into which to expand the franchise instead of destroying bit and pieces of the anime to retcon some situation that never was relevant in the first place. Who ever said thar Star Wars needed to make sense ? Idiots are everywhere.
  18. Well maybe not the US, but certainly France and Italy. Mostly France as its the most important manga market right after Japan. And learning french or italian is 2 orders of magnitude easier than learning japanese.
  19. No, its not the same script by a long shot. If you stop thinking of the characters in the novels as being transposed from the anime you'll enjoy it much more. The error is looking at the novels as some kind of anime adapted for the printed page. And maybe those are the roots, but as I said McKinney improved massively over what was concocted for the anime. So much so that the novels are robotech only in name if you want to push the argument to its limit. Says who ? The comics at HG say that. For their own purpose of course. Failing to see that of all the robotech products available in the last 30 years the novels are the only ones that give a complete, coherent universe upon which to build. Build new animation, or other adventures etc... The comics, the rpgs even are not even in the same league as the novels. Damn I must have missed the fact that the Force shapes historical events. Not one of the 6 movies states something like that. No, I never registered on the palladium forum. I'm not some other user under a new name, and I'm not a refugee from some other macross/robotech forum out if thats what you're thinking.
  20. Oh no. I'm a 100% realist. So much so that I know that nothing can come out of HG at least not any worthwhile anime product. Now had they managed the novels differently or the RPG in a good way they could have done better. Put out new litterary products to enhance the robotech universe. Of course it would have been better had they not backstabbed the original creators willingly. At this point in time who knows, maybe they would have had the authorization to use Macross characters and mecha in derived products and animation. And Macross and Robotech would have had each a different market in the west. HG's greed and unfriendly business practices have condemned them to say bye bye to the part of the Robotech saga that almost all fans like. And all they have left to promote is the least likeable part of the Robotech saga.
  21. And how are they going to do that ? BW/Studio Nue were backstabbed by the unspeakable company and japanese companies have a very very long memory. Hell Sunrise basically banned Gundam from the west for 20 years because the Italians in the early eighties broadcast Gundam on tv more than what was agreed with the japanese. The only solution is either the unspeakable company dies and transfers all assets to someone else, or Tatsunoko revokes the Macross rights to the unspeakable company and gives them to some other licensor. But as long as the unspeakable company chokes the Macross property, and Macross doing quite well in japan well japanese authors won't give a damn about foreign sales. And that saddens me because Macross The First is fine manga. Unfortunately since I don't speak japanese, I will never ever buy it because I want to read the manga in a language I understand and not just look at the pictures.
  22. HG is constrained by the fact they DON'T invest on the franchise. The reason for this, who knows. Thats why they are always recycling old animation, they don't want to pay the hard price to produce not a tv series, but not even an OAV series that would give closure to the tv series. There is no interest in this, so they go limping along presenting one powerpoint slide each year at some convention. Rinse, repeat until they manage to put something out. You need to pay to get quality writers, you need to pay to get a good animation studio, you need to pay to promote the franchise etc... You need money, and money is what HG doesn't want to spend. So of course robotech fans get half assed projects. This all boils down to the fact that HG is not and never was a production company. They acquire and relicense animes. Thats all. In the eighties they got momentarily luck with Robotech. But that was just an exception, the nature of the company never changed in 30 years. So why people are excepting to see a radical change now baffles the mind.
  23. I learned of Macross in the early eighties through a Takatoku electronic game that I was given as a gift. It was all in japanese expect for the instruction booklet that had english and japanese text. Of course I was amazed by the introduction in english. In started by "in the year 1999 an alien starship crashed landed in the south pacific island of south ataria and blah blah blah....". It went on to describe basically the whole Macross plot. I was mesmerized to say the least. The game was nice, but I liked even more the art design on the box. At the time I though I'd never see the series this game was based on on tv ever. Then some years later by chance I got to see the first episode of Robotech and the characters reminded me of something lol. Then I made the connection and took out the electronic game from its resting place and yes it was the same characters. And I decided there that I was to see the whole macross part even as part of robotech. At first I didn't realise that Macross and Robotech were 2 different things but it didn't matter. What mattered was that I could see the characters in "real life" as opposed to only the videogame.
  24. I'm watching Madoka Magica and AnoHana on tv. Not really my cup of tea but since its the only new series they are broadcasting its better than nothing. Madoka Magica has an interesting story but an atrocious and I mean atrocious character design (and this warrants that I'll never buy this series on dvd or blu-ray), while AnoHana reminds me in some sense of IT (without the Horror part). I'm still integrating my viewing with Cowboy Bebop episodes, its an evergreen series and Kyashan episodes (the 1970 series).
