Yes, exactly like that. I'll say it again - ALL interpretations (including mine and yours) are based on assumptions of what we think happened after the brief "attack" flashback that we see. An attack on a female where you intentionally rip open her clothes is classed as a sexual assault. After working in the police force for 7 years, 3 of which were out patrolling streets, then i can tell you that with absolute certainty. Granted you are in the US and I am in the UK but I would be extremely surprised if the criteria of sexual assault was that different between our countries. Legal definitions aside, im basing my ideas on what occurred on the exact same footage that you are so to say im misinformed is incorrect. The anime provides a brief flashback and based on that anyone who watches must draw their own conclusions. There is no substituting of material since i am not replacing anything I have actually seen with something of my own invention so again what you are saying is incorrect. Your sequencial logic format is just your own interpretation in a bulletpoint format. While that might be useful for any Macross Plus related power point presentations you do it dosnt really add to your own theory nor subtract from any of the others. The point of this thread is to hear peoples thoughts on the main characters motivations in Macross Plus. If you want to try and outright convince me that your theory is the only true interpretation then your wasting your time, the flashback scene is brief, ambiguous and leaves the viewer to fill in a lot of the blanks themselves and i actually enjoy that aspect of it as it promotes friendly discussion on a subject i enjoy.

Guld is not first generation Zentradi. He is 2nd generation half human half zentradi crossbreed. @robelwell - you may think the scene is easy to interpret but the different ideas in this post show otherwise. Maybe Guld left the room straight after looking in the mirror? Maybe Guld went nuts and started biting chunks out of Myungs buttocks? We dont know for sure so it is completley open to interpretation.

Im pretty firmly in the camp that believes Guld raped Myung, tbh im quite surprised that there are so many who see something different in that scene. I dont think that it makes Guld any less of a sympathetic character since he clearly is not in full control of his zentradi urges so its kinda like having your pet dog bite a kid - its not evil its just its nature and it dosnt mean you love it any less even though you will have to get it destroyed. As for the Guld/Myung thing then she does love him in spite of what happened. As Sharon says "I love Guld but i love Isamu more".

Well yeah - i think its pretty obvious that there is some kind of attack, and the shots of Guld ripping Myungs top open would suggest that its a teeny bit sexual in nature, but this is all straying a bit from my original question.

Gulds flashback clearly shows him forcing Myung to the ground and ripping her clothes open exposing her breasts - maybe rape is too strong a word but its definatly a sexual attack. I would suggest that the only reason we dont see a full on rape is that its unnessacery to show such a graphic act in the context of the OVA but i always got the impression that the incident was more than what was shown, which was already pretty shocking. If you dont think there was any kind of attack at all then i would suggest its you who is missing it... totally missing it...

Yeah that’s what I’d always thought too but there are a few little details that my friend pointed out that make me wonder. Firstly there is all the references to Isamu being a traitor and a coward which don’t really fit in with how you would describe a rapist. Second there is Gulds flashbacks. At the end he completely remembers everything but until that point anytime he has a slight memory twinge he downs a load of meds to block it out. If he has been doing this all his life then he wouldn’t have a complete memory of what happened until the final battle which is when he truly lets go and doesn’t have any pills to hand. Finally you don’t actually see Guld ever have a flashback sequence of Isamu doing the raping (from Gulds perspective). You see Isamu and Myung together and that’s pretty much as far as it gets before Guld starts knocking back pills. It just put an interesting twist on the relationship between the two with rather than Guld just being angry at Isamu for being a potential rapist he is more angry at Isamu suddenly disappearing out of his life and so the feelings of betrayal which turned into hatred, when really Isamu did it to help maintain the illusion that it wasn’t Gulds fault.

I hadnt even considered getting one of these until i saw all these awesome pictures. I better go tell the kids that Christmas is cancelled for them.

My friend and I were watching Macross Plus OVA again the other night and we both have slightly different ideas on what had occurred in the central characters past and how that had affected Guld. One of us thinks that Guld had just completely blanked out the whole rape scene and only picks up his memory again maybe days later. During that time Isamu and Myung have decided to keep it all quiet and Isamu has left Eden and its this sudden disappearance of his best friend that causes Guld to keep referring to Isamu as a traitor and a coward. The other theory is that Guld completely remembers the assault but has reworked it in his mind so that it is Isamu who is the villain and its his memory of Isamu attacking Myung that is the root of the his hatred. This is backed up by the way Guld perceives himself as a Myungs protector since this is how he perceives his role in the original attack as the one who saved Myung from Isamu. Just wondering what the general opinion was or if anyone thinks its something completely different ?

I'd buy one but its not one of my favourite designs. The fighter looks too slim and girly and the battroid looks like sloth from goonies dressed as a YF-21.

I pretty much share your opinion on Macross Plus and its still my favourite of the franchise. Thats why even though i like the look and colour scheme of the Double Nuts im wondering if it will scratch my itch to have the complete set of Macross Plus valks.

I much preferred the shorter more serious stories of Macross Zero and Macross Plus. The darker stories contrast really well with the shows singing and themes of communication, and sets the scene for some good emotional ties to the characters. That’s not to say I dislike the bizarre cheese of Macross 7 but it took me longer to get into it and my Mrs thought it was ridiculous. Id like to see future Macross storylines look into other creations like the Bird Human. Maybe there are other such relics left behind on other worlds or maybe a conflict with another “failed experiment” like humanity.

I just dont think the orange trim works, it dosnt accent the lines of the toy as well as the other schemes. Also im just not big on light orange as a colour so its a personal taste thing.

I was just wondering what peoples thoughts are on the Yamato 1/60 YF-19 with the standard Macross Plus colours vs the “Double Nuts” colour scheme ? My previous YF-19 took a tumble off a high bookcase (curse you child!) and needs replacing. I’ve always really liked the standard colours but the Double Nuts looks quite nice in reviews, especially fighter mode although I think it looks a little bit plain in Battroid mode. The main factor is that the Double Nuts is about £35 cheaper on ebay at the moment but im wondering if I would be disappointed with it and should just pay the extra for another standard YF-19. Any owners of both care to offer some advice ? PS: The “bird of prey” colour scheme is a bit poo so I’m not going to bother with that one.

The bandai Macross 7 toys - cheap feel, cheap look, bad proportions

The general opinion seems to be that the VF-25 sucks so I’ll definitely steer clear of that one. I really like the look of the VF-27 though although what I have heard about the paint chipping makes me cautious as I am quite hands on with my toys. Thanks for the help, looks like I’ll be ordering a VF-27 soon. I wasn’t much of a fan of the VF-25 in Frontier anyway, It looks far too similar to a VF-1 and I don’t feel as inclined to get yet another F-14 looking toy. Fingers crossed for a Yamato VF-17 !

First of all Hi, im new to these forums but have been a Macross fan for many years. I was looking for a bit of advice. I currently have quite a large collection of the Yamato and Bandai 1/72 toys and have just started rebuying my collection as 1/60 with a few of the Yamatos. My question is how good are the new Bandai 1/60 like the VF-27 and do they look OK amongst a collection of mainly Yamatos ? I only ask because my Bandai VF-17 and VF-19 Fire stick out like a sore thumb and look cheap in comparison to my YF-19, YF-21, VF-1, VF-11 etc. Any advice would be most appreciated.
