  1. I can't teach you how to deal with this, but I can only offer some possible suggestions to why he is behaving the way he is.

I guess your father must be about close to 70 years old or so? I guess you have to accept the fact that he came from a different socio-economic background with a different set of upbringing and worldview, and also we must also understand that people of that era are not trained to look at perspectives other than their own, and they have no/little chance to have been exposed to different perspectives as we have

Thus some things you do just seem absurd to him no matter how hard you try to convince him. its pretty much like some of the things/attitudes the teenagers/kids do/have nowadays that seem perfectly normal to them.

I suspect he is outraged by what he deems as frivolous spending, spending money on "kids' playthings"/ extravagant stuff that doesn't serve any purpose, in contrast to his time where he might have had to scrimp and save and take on jobs even as a teenager, and things he bought were for the sake of family rather than for individual amusement.

He might be unimpressed with the re-sale value of the toys, because he might be of the opinion that only "crazy" people would be interested in these things, and none of the people around him are that "crazy", and therefore, isn't convinced. The things he mentioned are the "mainstream" collectors items of his time and tius what he considers "normal", and basically what he knows. What he doesn't realize is times have changed, and he cannot apply his previous experiences to what is happening in the world right now.

Maybe you should just hide our collection the next time he visits.

    Spot on!

This is what I am thinking. I have taken a lot out of the display cases and left in the " mature " looking collectibles ie. the Fighter jets from Macross and the Binaltech Cars. And yes he is of the 70s range. And yes in his time money was spent on Family although he had his toys, ie skiing equipment and Women!.....Now he seems to be collecting tools. The guy has more tools than a large sub contracting outfit. Sure he loves remodeling his houses but I think he has more than enough. Even tho I have a savings account with contributions to RRSPs and Mutual funds and my kids are best dressed and attending piano lessons and tennis lessons I am still upset about his comments. I would think I would not be affected about his criticisms even at my age and independence. As for the Will I dont care but I do wish to see my kids get his four houses. I have decided to thin out the display cases and leave them there. I guess you just cant teach an old dog new tricks. Funny I consider myself more open and progressive than his generation. I tried showing him some of the just outstanding and " Respectable" collection pics from MW members and Dalong's website outlining that over the last few years the collection of High End Mecha toys has grown. His comment, were all nuts and in need of serious psychological help with our insecurities. That may be so but as long as we are financially responsible and dont actually harm anyone other than the poor workers in China that make our stuff it should be considered a NON GEEK thing to do. I bet if you see WallStreet dudes with our collections it would be the in thing!

  2. There is no guarantee a certain item will go on sale. For example, the Max and Millia 1/60 V2s. Not only did they not go on sale, they pretty much sold out soon after release and it is hard to get them at a good price.

You can think of it this way: By buying early, you eliminate risk (of it being sold out), because you pay to to run any risk. By waiting, you might get it at a lower price but you risk the ability to owwn it (like the Max and Millia) at all later on. As they say, he higher the risk, the higher the potential for return so if something is that important to you, you decide whether you want to run the risk.

On a more macro scale, if everybody thought like that: ie, hold out for lower prices, this will affect retailers' confidence in (in this case) Yamato products. Orders will drop and eventually yamato will deem it not worthwhile to continue making any more Macross products, and we will be the biggest losers for not having qualty intricately designed macross products. Basically theis is what essentially "deflation" is , and it is extremely damaging to producers.

So regarding the 1/3000 Yamato Macross, you have to decide if the risk to not get it now is worth it. I have decided it is not worth the risk, and I have pre-ordered. What about you?

Something happened a few days ago with a family member its in the Collection Display thread and I am not going to repeat it. The last of my recent purchases have been the Hot Toys War Machine, SOC Spec Dragonar Opening Silhouette Ver. Costco Limited Movie BumbleBee, Riobot Delphine 2nd Type, and the New Fans Project Protector Armor. I just got the new Monster. Its much better than the Yamato one. But I should have waited to drop in Price or at least got the non special version. The base isnt worth the extra $80 Bucks. The reason I bought it was I didn't want to take the risk of it being discontinued. Again I should be comfortable about it being discontinued. No I haven't pre ordered the SDF because I am waiting on reviews from members here first.

  3. My Father came over and checked out my Man cave. Boy at 38 years old I got chastised as if I was 16. Comments like your insane, don't you feel embarrassed having toys in display cases. I told him about the value and asked him to hold some of SOC but he said it didn't matter. He asked why don't I collect stamps, or paintings or china. Sigh, After that visit he really put a damper on my mood. He asked me what do I do I see in all this plastic. I told him the engineering and love that went into creating them. He wouldn't have any of it. Basically he told me I would not be included in the Will if I didn't get rid of them.

And to my surprise he called me abnormal for having a 100 gallon aquarium, saying that is something only crazy people have.

Have any of you experienced this and how did you handle it.

  4. Yes no one put a gun to my head. However I am still able to feel regret for making a bad decision. I paid over $200 Canadian and to see them at around $80 canadian I am a little upset that they would go so low. This goes back to my earlier comment about the upcoming 1/3000 SDF and waiting until it goes on sale. I have seen to many things drop in place. IE. the Max Factory Dragonar selling for over $250 now selling for $130 or SOC that used to sell for $400 now selling for $200. Part of the thing about collecting high end collectibles is that they hold value. I have learned patience and I need to learn to be even more patient. That is all I am saying.

  5. I feel pretty bitter about this sale. Seeing how little these valks cost and knowing how much i paid for them makes me regret getting them. I certainly wont buy anymore until they eventually hit the sale price

  6. Decided to watch Aquarion. By the second disk I was wondering if they would refund me for the DVD...

That is funny !

Well I'm thinking of quitting on Star Driver. The plot thus far from 1 to 10. Girls. Boys. Gratuitous booty shots. Robot Fight. Pretty Boy Winner. End Credits. Gee I think next time I am going to send my short story from my 4 year old daughter to a Japanese anime producer. Samurai Girls is pretty good and progressing well. I cant seem to get into SRW-OG the Inspector. Wacky robots that are all super-powered and no clear indication who the protagonist is bleh

Seems this anime season is pretty dry

  7. I saw that page. The Yamato and Andromeda are small gashapons. However,in your scans there's also mention of the 1/500 scale Yamato kit. That's the Yamato I want to spend on. The sculpt on that one is the best (IMO). Pre-colored and snap-fit like most Bandai kits.

Will buy it just as soon as I clear out some of the kit building backlog...

Wait what! 1/500. You mean the one from Bandai back in '07 with the awesome electronics and Wave motion LED. Im looking at the book now and of course I cant read Japanese and I dont see it says Bandai anywhere but also I see 1/350 scale so is there another one? It also has the same line art as the BPX-01 which i guess they are aiming at the Series Look

  8. @anime52k8... ordered a bunch of decals from that guy you bought yours from. Did you have to pay him first without an invoice or did he send you an invoice?

And who here is getting the PG S. Freedom?

Just waiting for someone to give their feedback. I wont make the same mistake twice as I did with the Double 0 R.

It looks good but I am a little skeptical

  9. well i might pick it up if and when it drops in price. I have the BPX-01 and even with its faults I love it. Right now I have it on display with the 2 versions of Arcadia's and the Queen Emeraldas with the bays open to expose the internal structures. I guess that is the selling point that keeps that thing around 180 US. The SOC selling point... cleaner lines. But your right the stupid antennas made from soft plastic what were they thinking. If you noticed in my Dengeki Scans thread their is another version of the Argo on the way as well as an Andromeda.

Funny thing The Andromeda has a lot of torpedo missile bays and yet got destroyed in less than three months in service in one battle. Not to good for a Earth Capital ship.

  10. yeah, I've always liked the main battleship too.

I may have to take the plunge for Andromeda....even with that freaking high price. As for prices dropping I'm not so sure, the BPX, after-all, is still pretty high too.

    Chris

    Keep checking Ebay.

I found mine for 100. MIB

I also never thought I would find an Arcadia OVA version for 150. But I did!

    Anyways

    I love this sequence

One thing that really is pushing me to get the SOC Yamato are those guns. They are much bigger and longer. Also the Wave motion gun LED !

  11. Nah it's all good, I just hope they buy each other breakfast in the morning.

Seriously, thanks for the pictures and the review, Kyp. I'm guessing they increased the wave gun's opening for the drill missile? I really wish they had kept the gun opening smaller-that large hole just looks odd and is kinda of a deal-breaker, IMHO. On that note, if some of you guys are thinking about selling your BPX-01's lemme know...

I guess people completely ignore my posts??????

This is a redesign of the movie and Renewal Anime Yamato. The BPX has line art that often was shown in the series. This is why Bandai has two versions of the Dragonar SOC SPEC figures. One from the series and the other from the opening credits. Its just which line art you prefer. If you really want a Yamato both versions from Bandai will drop in price as bandi will milk the series like they do with Gundam. Yamato from what I have seen has a pretty big following. Box office number are not out yet for the movie but I am sure it was number 1 or 2.

  12. I just weighed both the BPX-01 and GX-57 Yamato.

With no stand, batteries, or accessories.

The BPX-01...was close to 1.25 lbs

The GX-57...was close to 1.12 lbs (but a third of an inch longer).

    :lol::lol::lol:

    your kidding

    Wow that's a twist.

    >just one of my Aoshima Harlock Arcadia's would weight 4 times the SOC/BPX Yamato's
