How many MGs do you buy/year

Thank you I eventually used babelfish to translate the page. :( that I only had 3 choices so many of them I would like to be MG'd

So I chose Heavy Arms, Kyhstria and Big O

I so would love to see a Nobel Gundam

But they also need to up the release on PGs.

Some I would love to see are Exia Avalanche, Something else from Seed maybe one of the Zakus, and GP-02

  2. Old thread: http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=27447

Might as well start Thread #4 on a good note:

    http://ngeekhiong.blogspot.com/2010/03/mg-...-ms-survey.html

While any freebies would probably be limited to Japan, looks like it's not picky about who participates

The translated list (in this order):

Funny...I don't see Gundam X in there. :o *start thinking good thoughts*

can someone tell me what the drop down menus are

  3. Gundam Store and More sells parts.

Not anymore. Their Webmail seems to be down for a long time. I have wrote to them repeatedly with no response. Their parts ordering system is odd. I even tried calling them and the phone is disconnected. HLJ is your best place for Parts.

As for RX-78-2 Version 2 is best for an MG model. If you want Aesthetics go with the GFFMC version Ka.

    great lines

  4. MG and PG overall has served me well and I will continue only with those lines. Everything else is a poor facsimile

    On another note.

I flat coat my first gundams and really... wow. Makes a big difference

However I have read that its best to seal in paint detailing, Decals be it stickers, water slides, or Pressure Decals, with the former are the worst for setting no matter how you follow the instructions with a clear gloss 2 coat procedure and then a flat coat. My Test will continue the WIP Kotobukiya Telus unit. I also tried Mark Setter/Softer on stickers which blends in ok but you can still see sticker outline. While on Water Slides works great and really seals it in without damaging the plastic as the Nail polish did. I m not sure you can see it with the pics but the body and legs of the Telus unit are flat coated while the shoulders and arms are not. Now i read that flat coating bleeds the Panel Lining, mine did not. The OofO is detail painting, Clear gloss, decal and panel Lining, second clear gloss, then a flat coat. The flat coat makes the model look almost professional and the panel lining is beautiful

PS I wore a Filter mask used for taping and sanding and did it outside and still found my self choking on the aerosol particles, next investment will be a hobby painting fan

But its something I can recommend someone considering becoming a gunpla pro

  5. about working out.

Funny Im usually in and out the gym after 30 min. My workouts are intense. I go 4-5 times a week. Do a 30 lap swim or 10 min run on the treadmill. I usually sleep 3 hours a day. I build MG gundams in 4-6 hours read books play with the kiddies and read my PMP books. Before a month ago I havent gone to the gym for a year. I stayed somewhat lean because i hate junk food. Last week after the gym i needed to eat something and i had fries and burger from mc'd's well i had the runs and puked for 30 min, thats how much my body cant take whatever is in that food. Gave up cheese except feta. Always cook with Olive oil, make a quick mix of pasta veggies, can of tuna or egg or both and thats it. Or sometimes just a steak and a glass of red wine. But Age does take affect tho. I notice that my shoulder injury has come back. When 16 years ago in a tournament some ass ripped my shoulder from the rotator cuff and i worked on building the shoulder muscles. Last year i used to do about 10 -12 quick wide gripe lat chin ups now i can barely get 2 without my left shoulder giving out on me. I have concentrated on building up the shoulder and back muscles. I hope i can do what a I did last year. One bad habit i did pick up more was smoking. MAN does that make a difference. I went from a few on going out with the bros to one every morning. I know other people smoke a lot more but wow 1 a day can really affect the healing period after a workout. Another thing that NEVER happend. When I worked out the bicepts in the silly man pride doing what i used to do last year and paid the price. For one week i could not bend my arms at all. It was extremely painful. After soaking in a hot bath and my wife massaging my bicepts I was afraid i blew the muscle but eventually i was able to bend them more and more. I dont know what caused that.....

Anyway Pete looking good keep up the good work. Do you count your caloric intake? I notice you get lean quick if you take about 1900 to 2100 calories a dat and work out regularly . You should try that.

  6. Really, now? I actually like this paintscheme.

You don't want kiddy colors, yet you go right for the bright red, sword-wielding Gundam. Riiiight...

Not sure why people are fighting me on the color and no thanks to the original. Even tho the shades are different. This thing has cool blue white and bright green all those mixed together makes it look like a funky disco disco balls!

An all red gundam is better than a war ship of funky colors. I have waves darker SDF1 I want the similar color scheme. When they released the prototype colors it looked like the OVA series. I will get it but when Bandai releases the darker one. To add a final point in the CG model, the baby blue doesnt look as bad because the white is not there to contrast it. By adding white to it you notice the weird colors more. I guess if there was no white it would actually look better

Everytime I look at it I just cant stand the colors. But good for you if you like it. Enjoy

  7. That poseability is amazing.

And for something so small, its almost perfect change.

that is very nice in the way it can bend. At 144 it can pull off more cool poses than a MG version. I did see it two weeks ago at the mall and its too small for me 1/100 is as small as it gets for me. Looking at the GFFMC Version I am fearing the worst as it looks like a total copy of the MG. IE a statue

  8. Mine too, but I only paid about 340...did you order the option parts? I said no, they're not worth it. Hope I don't regret it, but the frame just didn't pop out enough for me to warrant paying extra for the option parts.

Yeah 400 is a bit much

did you get it from HLJ??

Mine cost me 339 to be exact

  9. With all this talk of PG kits....

Has anyone got a pic of a PG kit next to an MG kit so I can get an idea of the size difference? Have just got into this Gundam kit building thing - built the MG Sinanju, Shin Musha and Strike w/ IWSP so far...

MG Sinanju = fun mixed with much tedium

Would love to get the PG 00, but damn it's expensive - something like $450 to get it here to Perth

Dalong has reallly nice reviews Check out his PG Section

    http://translate.google.ca/translate?hl=en...cial%26hs%3DDyr

    My take on Gunpla

PG they are very nice and worth having but i would not want a regular scheduled releases like the MG line has. I like the line for its obscurity and that is what makes it special. At 1/60 they are a little on the large side. 1/100 is a good scale for nice displayed collections. They fit in well in the toy/model area of a mecha collection and would not look out of place with some of the larger SOCs (Personally I have the PGs Zeta, MKII, Wing Custom, Chars Zaku, and Strike. Rx-78 on the way and just purchased the 00 w/raiser) I would really appreciate someones opinion on the Red frame. To me, it shares to many characteristics of the strike. Just waiting for a drop in price. Also gut feeling Bandai will release like a rouge version with the flight pack. Also been debating for a while over the GP-01. Any thoughts. ????

MGs are really the pinnacle of model technology. I disagree with some here they are not worth it. In Fact they are very much worth it and are as complex as the PGs. For example the Blue Frame Revise has basically the same build tech as the red frame PG which I have yet to get. But Dalong gives us some points between the two. They can be very complex and to me... are close facsimiles to SOCs in model format. It occurred to me while playing w/ the Blue Frame that if you were to pack this in a nice box with Styrofoam or clear plastic inserts with the weapons set it very well could fool someone ignorant in SOC collection pieces. I will continue to support this line as the size is nice with regular release and its a little easier on the wallet for those cases when you want to get a PG release. I would however like to see a separate line of MGs expanded into a 1/72 size. That i think would satisfy the PG and MG enthusiasts with Price and Size. Also MGs can sometimes have as much detail as PGs. The version 2 of Zeta has better mechanics than its PG cousin, I dont have the MG wing custom but with Dalongs picture reviews it seems the MG has more wing detail with the extra Shoulder tip Wing points.

DX line has to be (for me) the ultimate let down. I have the Lighting strike and if it wasn't for the light up feature the issues of no inner frame, piss poor posability and just over all boring feel to it I would have never bought it at the regular price of around 200, but i got it for 80 shipped. SO if this line disappeared. Good riddance

HG and HGUC are not even in the same ball park. Kind of not even worth the serious collectors time and money.

Neo Grade or no grade no thanks I get more out of Kotobukiyas Zoids and Armoed core mecha models.

So there you have it PG and MG are well worth the time and money. I like how bandai has scheduled releases for each of the lines. Would like to see a sub MG line in the 1/72 scale range to satisfy collectors of either or both.

IF you need historical background in Gundam models, differences in sizes and other variances check out wilki info here

  10. Yep, the inner frame of the PG 00 isn't on the same ball park as the awesome PG Strike frame; but I guess that is to be expected from the über minimalist 00 designs. Still, I really hope I can beat my laziness and paint the inner frame in a dark grey tone. It makes it stand out a lot better than the plain black:

    4130178757_7c8744d00e_o.jpg

Hope some day they do an EX-S, now THAT would have a kick ass inner frame

Two part video review (the raiser loaded up looks huge):

The binders wiggle a bit. Hope the connection parts are strong.

a shed of tears in anticipation of this monster coming in the mail! SNIFF

  11. Yeag, but there are better and worse add on parts.

In Macross, the super packs and armor make sense. Super packs allow you to travel further distances in space - that's important if you want to go somewhere fast - like Hikaru wanting to escort Misa all the way to Earth. The armor helps when you want your battroid to serve as a walking artilery station.

Gundam's record is half and half. I think most of the packs in SEED actually do make sense. They're diverse enough - some of them are flight packs, others artillery etc etc. All of them are sensible in design - as is most of SEED mecha actually (unlike SEED anime).

The Super Robot add ons are also fine because they are supper robots.

But sometimes someone some where drops the ball. Hate to say it, but the O Raiser might be an example. It's a beautiful PG kit - but is makes absolutely no sense.

I mean - it makes less sense than any other backpack on a robot that I've ever encountered -seriously.

    Pete

really? less than that one gundam that has giant glowing butterfly wings? or the one with giant dove wings?

Anyways, I don't care for the raiser thing either, adds too much clutter for me.

Yes - because the Wing Zero custom, in my opinion, is at least aesthetically pleasing. Sure, it's not functional, but it's artistic and lends an air of angelic nobility to the Gundam. As for the butterfly wings... which one would that be?

The problem I have with the O Raiser is that it's just odd. I'm not spasmatic about it or anything, I will grant that the design is interesting, but it's just odd.

Then again, like I wrote -it's in the tradition of strange Gundam combos....

Yeah - this is true. Insofar as some people complained that SEED was overload in terms of all the crap they would strap onto a Gundam, OO is like the opposite direction. The armor, when there is any, hugs the inner frame like skin and there's less industrial bulk to it.

But then again - it's just the same progression that most robot have made from the 70s to now - from boxy bulky to sleek and slender.

On that note - do you guys see the similarity between the OO Exia and the Movie Optimus Prime? The head design is very similar, and the arm mounted sword/blaster.... Or is it just kind of coincidence?

    Pete

    Ahem

Backpack wings or Winged Utility Packs are very Useful

    IE Stabilizers

    Weapons Platform

    Escape Module

    Extra Armor

More hardpoints ie harder to pin point your blast when you have more surface area

the reasoning is sound and almost limitless.

So i Will agree they are needed. Heck have you seen any soldiers in IRAQ goddam looks like a car on their backs.

Here a few very different Back Pack usages from different gundams

Wing Custom. Used as a stabilizer, a source of fear(intimidation), More access points for false targeting, Stabilizers, armor

Sandrock and Death Scythe...Sandrock was more of a cape and used as a clocking device whereas Death Scythe was used for armor and intimidation.

Destiny. THe so called butterfly wings provided high velocity thrust, consider that in space!!! for a moment! The huge buster sword would still need velocity to gut a well armored gundam. Also provide faster maneuring vectoring for more agility at higher speeds and stabilization points. Also the recoil on a rail gun in space would be immense and hense would act as inertia asborber or stabilzer

Sword Impluse not a wing per say but pack back with 2 smaller winges that acted as an independant drone essentially make 2 offensive weapons from one. Also quick acces weapons platform for added melee combat. IE the two beam boomerangs.

Justice. Also had a drone feature giving it more offensive options. Stability, Increased Speed. Can be used as melee weapons with the Beam wings. It has two smaller beam cannons and can basically evicerate smaller vehicles and be a smart bomb

    Luca's Customer Strike E ISWP

OH MY GOD if ever a weapons platform. Took an older model and made it competitive by redesigning the gundam slightly and adding a wing pack. You have two smaller buster swords. TWO HUUUUUUGE beam cannons, Incredible increase in speed with the added boosters along with agility and two smaller beam cannons. The thing is INSANE yeah i want it to see go against a regular none back pack equpped gundam sorry bye bye

Aile Strike, Kinda of a start with Winged backpacks but probably a discovery that the frame of the gundam was very suitable for additional wing packs

Added thrust and manuervability and added 2 extra beam swords....

Turn A's wings were the effect of using too much of the nanotech machines.

    Strike Freedom

Duh.....Need a say more. A near clone of the HiNu Gundam/Nu Gundam (which buy the way were considered the most powerful gundams in the Gundamverse). 8 Hard POINTS 8.8.8.8.8.8.8.8.8.!!!!! yes 8. Better be a dam good pilot and shot! Extra thrust. Catch me if you can!. Stability for 2 Railguns and a BEAM chest ray of death! Shields in the case of the Nu Gundams uh uh yeah I will take a wing pack please thank you

So successful was the Wing Packed Nu Gundam that the baddies said screw that man and gave the zaku prototype a Zasabi a wing pack with Multiple weapons verniers

Blue Frame wing pack UM MEGA SWORD of death anyone??????....... Most versatile of all the wing packs. Speed, vectoring. more hard points, can act as a shield in Buster sword form, Gatling BEAM GUNG WITH SHEILD PLATFORM SUPPORTS@! ...... Just beautiful

Zeta had wing packs .... it TRANSFORMED!!!!!!!!!!!!! I will say it again IT TRANSFORMED. So much of this wing pack back or back pack in general reallly gave the country and pilot and edge over other gundams without. So much so it usually pitted a ultra -zaku clone prototype to get even close on level footing.

So now we have the 00 and 0 Reiser. As i mentioned the two probably converged to solve a problem which a board member kindly cleared up. Why was it so big. Well probably to provide a stable power output and an shield in an increase of overall stress on the 00 frame. So while the jet portion hanging of the back looks a little weird i can understand its versatility. the side binders are able to rotate and dispense Beam weapons, Also, the jet portion and its large size could act like another hardpoint, become a ghost drone or be piloted by another to have 2 offensive weapons. If the pilot is injured the 0 raiser could assume command and control.

Now im a huge fan of Macross... I love the jets/robots thing. Never even knew what gundam was until Wing appeared in syndicate. Now i will admit that it makes more sense for none transforming robots as transforming mecha there can be mistakes in pistons and gears reorienting themselves. It would be simpler to add a backpack or other vehicle to merge with minimal strutural change.

    thats my take

  12. I just wanna know one thing ... I haven't seen Gundam OO, and I don't mind getting "spoiled" - but WHY do they even combine? I mean...what is the use of having a jet on the Gundam's back and its' wings on the shoulders?

    Pete

It does have an inner Frame....just different mechanics...ie no pistons and what not. The details came from the pistons and levers. The frames themselves are just endo skeletons to support the armor.

As to the jet up its ass, I found that the entire inner design of the Rx-78 with its jet and any damage sustained on the outside of the robot might interfere with the fighter (core) being able to disengage. Great escape pod feature but also difficult to pull off. THE 00 is beautiful in design but maybe the real world implementation wasn't well thought out. I think from the show the Gundam was developed first and then a side project for a support vehicle was developed as a side support and then decided to integrate the two for more power output and versatility. Either way its fantasy and I doubt my kids would ever see any robotic application as we see in 80's mecha or the modern ones too ...(maybe the destoroids and the like) It is pretty, it is a PG and it looks good enough to drop 300+ on. .... Anyone here has the PG Astray Red Frame to give up a review? Thoughts? And rumblings of Bandai releasing the flight pack?

    Thanks
