True bad luck, man. I always try to stay on the low end of complexity. Washing the kit just before paint application is always a good idea; in most cases, it's not the ominous mold release agent, but the residues of our own greasy fingers that gets us into trouble later. If the kit's plastic already has a fairly homogenous color and you're going for a weathered paint job anyway, skip the primer. If you're not applying decals with large transparent areas, skip the interim gloss coat. I prefer water-based washes like Floquil or artist gouaches to anything solvent-based. Add a drop of dish-washing detergent to the water if you're using gouaches to make the paint flow better.

It's the 1/48 Hasegawa Draken, a great kit. Note that the Vallejo Aluminium contains some kind of flat medium that tends to clump at the bottom of the bottle, so make sure to stir the paint well instead of just shaking it before use, otherwise you have a very shiny aluminium.

^ nice to see new ideas on these classic designs. How could one resist this boxart? But really, it was somewhat an impulse buy. I was looking for a 1/48 pilot set for an A-4, then noticed that Hasegawa was releasing their late-80s 1/72 Tomcat as the NSAWC "Flanker", then I calculated that for the combined price I could as well get the old 1/48 kit and have two excellent pilots to make molds of. Masking the splinter camo would be the same effort as for the 1/72 version, and I would have a BIG bird on my shelf. There still are moments where I wonder if I had bitten off more than I can chew, though.

I found that Vallejo Metal Color Dull Aluminium looks quite good. If you want an even duller look, you could give it a slight overspray with light grey. Vallejos are made airbrush-ready, but they work good with a brush, too. There's also Humbrol's aluminium, but it's darker, and I'm not happy with Humbrol's current formula. Another option is to rub graphite powder over a flat light grey base.

Looks like I came to the right place This is the 1/48 Hasegawa F-14A, 2nd generation with slightly improved molds, but it's still a beast to build. I can go more into the details along the build if you wish.

I just finished Homecoming, and wow, what an experience. Definitely a s l o w burner, cleverly constructed, and masterfully realized, with a killer performance by Julia Roberts and the supporting cast, and the best camera work I witnessed in a TV series. -

I filed it under "overrated"... I hope this new version will be an upgrade in the spirit of the recent Jungle Book. -
Better get this done before the Hasegawa kit comes out

My thought on the movie Alita herself is the biggest treat of the movie. With all the other glitches (more below), the character itself is so strong and so flawless in acting & execution that this film not only works as an all-entertaining action movie, but also as a character drama and finally a successful manga adation. Technically, we see contemporary action SF at it’s best. Visuals and cinematography take you off into another word and then bounce you around in perfectly choreographed action sequences. Iron City - While the portrayal of the city wasn’t as candy-colored as in the first trailer, it never came across as the dire, filthy place where you’re just one step away from having your spinal cord stolen or your brain eaten by a rampant cyborg junkie while on your way to the next rat barbecue . Instead we see hipster-filled streets, cool bikes, and everybody enjoying the good life. Lush nature is just a drive away, and you can swim around a derelict martian spaceship. Why is everyone so desperate to get away from this place, again? Talking about the spaceship, the introduction of the Berserker Body and how it ended up in Ido’s lab in the Manga made more sense. I thought that Hugo and his gang’s scenes felt very superficial, I never felt it there. I can’t say if it was the actor or the direction, it never got above telenovela level, much wasted potential to give him more of an edge. The end of his arc was more powerful, though. Makaku (Grewishka) was another grat waste in this movie. Badly introduced, he’s then treated like a typical B-grade goon and reminded me of the hapless Mean Machine in 95’s Judge Dredd. I did enjoy, however the design & protrayal of Zapan, though. Nova was handled pretty cool, until he took his mask of and was - Edward Norton. Took me off for a second. Much like Christoph Waltz, I can’t unsee the actor walking around in a movie doing his shtick. And a final nitpick: WTF was Idara Victor’s character for? every second shot had her sheepishly smling into the camera. At first I thought I had missed that she was actually mute, until she said something random. It reminded me of the black character in Hunger Games 2 that was just around to bring JLaw from shot A to B. I left the cinema feeling well entertained, and the movie still stays with me. But I also felt something was missing. I understand that the makers had to drop the body horror of the source material that is a cornerstone of Cyberpunk. But I also felt it misses out on some of the finer traits I treasure in Manga and Anime, the greys in the motivation of characters, the drama of the antagonists that gives gravitas to their story.

Just back from seeing it, but I still have to process that shot of Jennifer Connelly in Vector's bed...

I loved the FZ's "walking tank" design from the beginning.

STAR WARS Merchandise Episode - 2
electric indigo replied to Black Valkyrie's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
As I understood it, only the special edition has the clear parts, and they're meant for advanced modelers. I guess they'll also include the regular parts. -
I'd say this is pretty much set.

Judging from the structure that is visible in the shadow area, this is a printed prototype and not the final production piece, so some things may still be refined. But they made sure to pack a lot of detail on this little kit. -
