Hey! Mine look just like Chowser's unit's gun! Coincidence? Hmmmm... Maaaayyyybbbeeeeee.... (I rarely post pictures of my personal collection so consider this a treat). -
I'm still complaining about the head laser colors. I had to paint my Max's lasers dark grey and I'll have to paint my Milia's as well it seems.

EA and Microsoft finally kiss and make up
JsARCLIGHT replied to wakobi's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
So then basically much like most previous Microsoft moves they are screwing their exsisting fanbase (the people who bought XSN games and play on that system) in benefit of a different system that is "better". Forced upgrade, XBOX style. -
I was always under the assumption that the VF's in Macross closely followed the tactics and "operational logic" of the modern aircraft they were drawn from... like the F-14 Tommy. That big Tom has an inboard cannon on it that is sort of like the gunpod on the VF series... you have to manually line up your shots with that thing using only a dancing piter and crosshairs and some pilots could shave the fleece off a sheep with those things. I can't imagine the Strike Cannon, or the standard gunpod, would be much different. In all truth we have only seen a Strike Cannon fire two, maybee three times in the anime... the best being the shot on the Zentran capturing Hikaru and Minmay by Focker. The Cannon was a single blast shot and he hit that sucker right in the numbers for a clean kill. You can see the Cannon fire and it appears to not move at all, fixed in place. I think if anything the Strike Cannon is more anime magic than gimble mounted and computer controlled.

When I was younger this was my dream car: Ferrari 288 GTO... 400HP, 6 speed, red as hell and faster than any piece of crap Delorian. Why oh why did they only make 280 of these cars? Someday... only another $300,000 to go... GTO 288 to the Delorian: I eat pieces of s#!t like you for breakfast... Delorian: Dude... you eat pieces of s#!t for breakfast? GTO 288: I... no... ARGH! (pummels Delorian into paste)

I've got this on my small TV in my den right now. I'm not laughing... I'm actually getting mad watching this travesty... Tony Hawk and his drunken delinquent sk8r posse are not funny... ... not even in the least... What is all this mouthpiece and medical staff bullshot? Americans too puss to run these stunts without their wet nurse? Someone please tell me they have not ruined yet another show due to some boardroom ass pilot saying they can "make their own and keep it funny." This blows. I want my badly dubbed japanese footage back. -
My guess is it will come out sometime between Half Life 2 and Doom 3... or about the time no one gives a rat's ass anymore, whichever comes first. Why is it that some companies can rush tons and tons of Puke-gi-oh and Blowkimon toys into the toy shelves in what seems to be mere seconds and it takes Yamato months and months to just back the truck up out of their driveway?

I still stick to my guns (pun intended) that the strike cannon is no more expensive than normal HMMP nasalle weapons but it rather requires a certain level of skill to use well in combat. The thing is basically a huge fixed weapon and unlike the swarms of self guided missles that the normal HMMP torches out a fixed in-line firing beam weapon would take a great deal of skill to use effectively in combat. Any shnook can dump a swarm of missles into an enemy target and fly away... it takes a pro to line up a shot with ship's guns and clip the enemy from a distance... at combat speed... while manuvering... Edit: and as for the cost thing, over the course of the weapon's life it would cost much less than the standard HMMP missle nasalle as the missle nasalle must be constantly reloaded with none-too-cheap missles whereas the beam cannon runs of ship's power and thus costs "nothing" to shoot. It may have a high price tag to build but it's operational cost should be very slim.

My thoughts on all the items in this thread can be summed up with one sentance and one picture: This... means something... -
Well it's good CG because it fooled me! Any time you have to take a serious hard look at something to tell if it is CG or not you did a good job.

You and me both, bud. Hey Rodavan, what's the deal here?

I say don't bother with a tatoo. I have one on my left shoulder that I really wish I had never gotten... and yet I still will never get it removed as it was from a time in my life that I can never live again... and sort of never want to as well... and looking at it makes me remember some hard times, some stupid times and some really downright terrible times. I have nothing against tatoos but I think you should look at it from a position of ten years into your life... do you want to explain to your kids or grandkids just what the heck that red circle thing on your body is? It's a lot easier when it has a tollerable story attached to it... And the story of "See, back in my day there was this thing call anime and these people called anime geeks, of which I was one..." just does not sound too good even in the here and now. I say get a puppy and a kitty with a big heart around it.

Those darn zombies always seem to show up when you don't need them... Just last week I was out back grilling some salmon and bam, in come the zombies asking to borrow money and stay for dinner. Undead freeloader bastards.

Can anyone identify these pieces
JsARCLIGHT replied to Kishimoto's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I have to admit that all I remember of STARCOM is seeing the toys in the stores (and thinking what a ripoff it was to get a teeny tiny action figure with the gimmick of magnet feet for the same price as a regular size action figure) and my cousin had a big black triagle dropship/jet thing and a little square white one with legs that picked up a yellow box. He got them for christmas in like 87 or something and I remember them clearly now as I had to help him put them together (being the only family member there under 21 and above 6 made me official christmas time "toy putter together" for the younger of the clan). The little white one had these pop up engines on the sides when you pushed a switch... only when you pushed the switch the force of the pop-up would send one of the little engine pods flying off all the time (and this was fresh out of the box)... and the big black triangular thing only like opened up when you pushed a button but it did it so slloooooooowwwlllyyy with this sort of uuuuugggghhhhh sound. I thought they were the worst toys I had seen in a while back then... my little cousin loved the hell out of them. Perhaps he just got some bad ones, who knows? That christmas however was the christmas my dad bought me my M16 BB rifle... many a dead squirrel, bird and GI Joe guy soon followed. ... and now back to the MegaForce topic at hand... -

That toy line was STARCOM. I thought it was gimmicky and the toys were quite cheaply made. Then again I only saw them in other people's hands and in stores as I was like 15 or 16 when those came out. -

So do those toys come with a tiny Barry Bostwick and Persis Khambatta? -
When I and my army of super cyborg killers take over the planet, I will require people to get a license to buy and use home video cameras.

KB1 DVD autoplays on my system and the DTS, 5.1 PRO LOGIC and DIGITAL lights all light up on the DVD player and receiver like a christmas tree. My DVD player has a setting that you can set the autoplay start criteria, i.e. sound mode, picture mode, screen ratio, junk like that. I remember going in and setting all those setting to the max when the Hi Fi store people installed my system last year. The issue, people keep telling me, is with the volume encoding on the center channel audio track. All the speakers are playing at regular volume but the center (dialogue) seems like it has such a low volume level. Those same people have also told me that my system is meant to be used "cranked" with the volume up around 15 on the dial but I live in a town house and a volume level of 15 on my Denon dial would sound like someone was actually fighting the Crazy 88's in my living room to the nice old lady next door. I played the movie back just now on my PC which has a 5.1 digital speaker setup on it and it sounds just fine... once again the dialogue is a little low but I can hear it better. Of course the center channel PC speaker is like two feet from my head. -

WHAT? YEAH, YOU CAN USE IT! Damn, now that I figured out how to make the stupid stubtitles kick in I'm having to re-watch part 1 again all the way through to pick up all the stuff I missed before. This movie makes a lot more sense when you know what everyone is saying... the only drawback is now I'm used to my movies subtitling everything from jet engine noise to rockabilly music to woosh woosh noises. ... but I'm still noticing a few scenes that are not subtitled still or are just subtitled fo-ne-ti-ca-ly and it's kind of annoying... but still, at least being able to tell what they are saying now for most of the important scenes is a big help. -

OK, The only way I can get the subs to kick in is to select "English for the Hard of Hearing" and it now subtitles everything... it even goes as far as subtitling sound effects, music and noises. When I watched the DVD the first two times through no subs of any kind came up on screen durring any part... I just ran auto play, I guess it does not sub anything when you just autoplay it. -

Uhhhh.... I might just be missing something but the spoken Japanese in KB1 is not subtitled at all. I looked around on my DVD for the fuction to turn on the subtitles but it just subtitles the spoken English and not the Japanese. Edit: I have the R1 disc, widescreen. If anyone knows how to turn on the subs for the Japanese dialogue I would love to know how as it is one of the things that I still strongly dislike about the first part. -
Wow, that is one really tubby program... must be someone's comic book list or fanfic that roams the internet looking for chips and Mountain Dew.

ooooooooooh no. She has this little issue with all the blood in the first one and she has no wish to be involved with the next part... even if I tell her it is nowhere near as bloody. She used to be up for a lot of movies like that but since she got back she is not too keen on bloody movies for good reason. -

Ahh, sweet understanding. Anyway, I just got back from the Theater and have this to say about KB part 2: SPLITTING THIS MOVIE IN TWO WAS A BAD IDEA. I disliked the first part because it really, really, really needs the strength of the second part to carry it IMHO. I am very glad I went to see part 2 and give it a chance as it adds some of the things I was hoping to see in the movie back in. I can now admit that my dislike of the first part was not so much a dislike of the "new, different" Tarantino... but all the blood is still a putoff... but rather I think now I disliked it so much because the whole movie was there. It was just part of the movie. My brain was operating under the logic that "they released it as two movies so it must have the stuff it needs to stand on it's own two feet as a movie". Couple that with my expectations of seeing "Tarantino Kitch" and it was a complete letdown. But now after seeing part 2 so soon after seeing part 1 on DVD the whole thing sort of "geled" into more of what I had in mind. I do still think that the second part could have benefited from some more witty dialogue but you can now get a better view of why it is not present. Plus, seeing this in a theater the dialogue was a bit more hearable and the lack of top-heavy spoken japanese with no subtitles let me get into the movie a lot more. I know we are all at this site because we watch japanese cartoons but I'm one of those people who is not fond of spoken japanese and understands very little of it even with my years of anime watching... I even have a hard time picking out the english words mixed into the japanese lines. Anyway... Kill Bill is still not my favorite Tarantino movie but it has somewhat redeemed itself in my eyes.
