So, we were paying, what, $30 per VHS? At two episodes per (am I remembering that right?). Which is $65 in 2023 money. The modern anime industry in the US was built upon our wallets.
-
I currently have the old Bandai(?) DVD set, but have wanted to upgrade to blu-ray for a long while now.
Like many, I was introduced to Gunbuster via the US Renditions VHS releases and it's been a favorite of mine for decades now. I still recall the flier I got from Books Nippan that listed the upcoming releases of Dangiaoh, Gunbuster, and one other anime that I can't recall. Dangaioh and Gunbuster were must haves because of Kawamori and Mikimoto.
-
Apparently, this was announced last year. I'm pretty jazzed that we can finally get the full 6-part OVA in NA on blu-ray and not just the condensed movie version that's been the only thing available.
-
Discotek Media is releasing the full, 6-part Aim for the Top! Gunbuster OVA in April on blu-ray. Will include unspecified special features and a brand new English dub.
It's available for preorder on Amazon and RightStuf.

For those who might be interested, I listen to The Prestige TV Podcast quite often and their The Last of Us Deep Dive pods have been really good. They add some game perspective into it, which has been great for me since I played the game a decade ago and don't remember a lot of it.

Oh, really should mention
Spoilerhow fantastic the scene with Graham Greene and Elaine Miles was. Great surprise seeing them both and they were wonderful.
-
Also, I'd like to note that I haven't heard Bella Ramsey's accent slip once. Or if it did, I didn't notice it. She's done a great job.
-
Another excellent episode. I've said it before and I'll say it against: TV and film adaptations of video games cannot be what they were prior to this. The previous level of quality is just not acceptable after what they've done with this show.
-
Good friend of mine saw it yesterday, her thoughts pretty much matched up with reviews. Not a good movie. I'm leaning toward finally making a break with Marvel here.
-
The reviews for this have not been good. I keep thinking with each release over the past year or two that "I'm done, I'm getting off this train." Yet, I haven't. But maybe this is it?

I'll go see it but I think they missed a YUGE opportunity by not including Ke Huy Quan (Short Round) in this film, especially after his return to stardom with Everything Everywhere All at Once.
Everything Everywhere All at Once came out after Dial of Destiny had wrapped filming. So, not exactly something they could have done. -
I was about to ask where Weltall-Id is, but I see that's available as well.
-
For those unaware, this week's episode was released Friday night (10th) to avoid conflict with the Super Bowl on Sunday. So, it can be watched right now.
-
So, I'll kick this off. Another top-notch prestige series by HBO. Fantastic adaptation so far. Any changes made to the narrative have been for the better. Loving it.

Starting a threat for discussion revolving around HBO's adaptation of The Last of Us.
Please clearly mark all game spoilers as such. All other spoilers will be considered series-specific.
-
We should probably have a thread just for The Last of Us show on HBO. There's nothing of greater quality being discussed on MW right now.
-
The Last of Us on HBO is not only an excellent drama, it's also the best video game adaptation ever made. By a mile. It makes all the rest look even worse than they already do.
If you're sleeping on this show, don't. It's going to end up on everyone's top TV of 2023 list at the end of the year.

Disappointed in this season. This is not what I wanted from this show at all. No desire for the final part of the story.
-
It was a better episode.
SpoilerJulian Glover showing up and dropping a Last Crusade reference (and maybe Star Wars?) was a treat. And Elora has gone from a strawberry blonde to a red head? Did I miss that last episode, or did they just make the change between episodes?

Tales Of The Jedi could easily have just been a clone wars spin off. Or even integrated into the series. I know it's after the fact now, but most everything revolved around that era and those characters.
Yes. While I thought it was good, I was disappointed that they stuck so close to home. They could have chosen any era, spanning thousands of years, and brought some Legend characters into the canon, but no.

well...LOL. ONE out of THREE live action shows that was worth watching! (Didn't count Tales of the Jedi as I haven't watched it yet.) Not a good hit rate Disney!
Boba Fett was worth watching for when it became Mando season 2.5 in the last few episodes. Granted, you’d be better off skipping everything up until then.

Mmm this show is a bit goofy ( no pun intended Disney!) and way too modern speak. The music too. It's a steady descent. Not even Christian Slater could save the last episode.
After this last episode I don’t even know what this show is anymore. It’s so all over the place. It’s like a high school production of Willow.

The show isn't THAT popular.
Most Witcher fans think Cavill is the only thing holding it together.
Cavill leaves because of the writing.
Lots of people will leave with Cavill.
Do the math. If you were a smart network exec would you bet huge money on a 4th season under those circumstances?
You seem to be creating your own narrative here that might not exactly be accurate.
Frankly, I got badgered into watching this show an am not really a fan of it. So, I don’t really have a dog in this race. But Netflix is going to keep making the show as long as the streaming numbers are there.

So it can absolutely have the plug pulled.
That was my point. Will NF throw $100M+ at a season that looks like it's doomed?
Why does it look like it’s doomed? The show is popular and they announced the recasting.

I sold my VHS copies of Gunbuster on eBay years ago. Sold all of my anime I had on VHS. It sold well, even though a lot of it was available on DVD at that point.
