  1. What I think any anime fan should have pretty much generally this geeky items that are a necesity to be called a fan.

I surely don't mean "copy" as in boothleg:

    1. copy of the original movie and/or series; or both in the best quality possible.

    2. copy of the most precious original toy (or the full series of toys) in the series, in any scale ( to your liking). but most likely the biggest scaled one available( if the toy was released in several scales and different years get a vintage one and a modern version).

    3. copy of main resource book or reference data published.

    4. poster.

    5. a model kit originally released.

6 some miselaneous items ( clothing, key chain, plush toy, original comic book, etc)

7- if possible; at least 1 original anime cel

    ---- ---- ----

As a Macross fan I would not call myself one unless I had these items...

    1 macross gold book

    2 DYRL movie, dvd

3 my favorite macross series' chapters in dvd (since video is "obsolete")

4 at least 1 toy of each of the main characters vehicle ( only one if there are several variants on the same type), of the best possible and most accurate released type. (In my case one 1/48, one 1/60 and a 1/3000 SDF-1)

5 1 full series of models of any of the scales relased by any company. (1/144)

6 1 full collection series of the more accurate models ever made. (hasegawa, 1 variant of each).

7 released magazine and books for reference (tia books)

    8 Macross perfect memory book

    9 Kawamory mecha designs book

    10 posters; lots

11 at least 1 original anime cels

12 a miscellaneous item ( stuff like key chains and some of the figure collection, sharpeners)

13 since i like macross plus as well I also have several books, dvds, models and the 1/72 club-m collection

14 one of the biggest and best models produced by any company ever of a main vehicle; 1/48 ultimate strike valk; 1/4000 sdf-1

  2. Is hard to find a "perfect" set of compressor and airbrush since everyone who uses them has a favorite of each and therefore different oppinions...

The best thing to do is search on the net for art sites to compare styles and results. Some of them have art forums were they describe their experiences.

I did about a month research on ebay, the internet in general and modeling sites to compare prices; keep eye on what's available and how much truly pay for them. But most important, see what results people had and what they use to get the results they want.

I would stay away from the $20-50 range of compressors. E-bay has some good deals on them but carefull to buy one without warranty( wether is new or refurbished). In that case you might be better off buying one at walmart.

Use one that has at least 2 or more gallons and more than 1 HPs, if you use it to paint a lot. Although some might think is a bit too much for a beginner, on my case I got the handle of an airbrush relatively quick and realize the compressor would only last 20-30minutes before shutting down for good. When you paint a hasegawa battroid you'll spend about 1 or more hours between painting it with changing colors. Is always a drag to have to wait 1 hour for the compressor to cool down and start all over. The one I have is 6 HPs and costed me about $140, I have painted 3 hours straight without a problem.

The airbrush, well, any type with a high atomization ( particles x cubic cm {or inches})?? and the ability to get thin lines, interchangeable nozzles will do fine.

I have a 2 types of paschee, because I found them cheap and wanted to have a feel of them they have survived over 3 years of use and they are getting old but still useful one of them costed me $35 on e-bay. I also have an iwata ( which I haven't used at all in over 2 years) because I thought it would be the best and a long lasting tool (which is true); but since the paschees have done fine all this time I have no need for the iwata, at least for now but is always good to have a back up. I have bent about 3 niddles on accidents by now.

You'll realize the grade of the results is up to your ability to do what you want with the tools you have, not necessarily how expensive the tool is.

    Hope that helps a bit...

  3. From what I've seen I do think that the characters do rise from the dead a bit much too. That's just stupid. And yesterday's brand new ep was crappy and added nothing to the series. There are some hilarious and edge of your seat eps though.

    vinnie

EDIT IN: I actually don't wait around for the show. I just record them and watch at my leisure.

I agree; is not quite the best show out there but from time to time they bring some interesting points.

Just entertainign enough like star trek did on TNG

  4. I remember when I went to the air and space back in the late eighties they had the most awsome model of an aircraft carrier I had ever seen. It had to be over 4' long and you could see all the details in the hanger decks. Truely awsome. Is it still there?

Yes, the carrier is still there but in the DC museum in downtown Washington...what most people don't know is that this museum annex is about 25 miles from the main "Mall" in Washington DC where the main Air &Space and most museums are; about 3 minutes from the Dulles international Airport and practically on my "back yard"...

  5. yeap..I got a bunch of different pics but I didn't think it would be such a great idea to post all of them here...

    I'll post only some of the ones I got requested on;

I wouldn't recomend anyone to go any time soon since they have thousands of perople form Virginia going every day; and the place needs to be finished and expanded

-David; I have your Concorde landing gear pic, and yes I went to the observation tower (which isn't that spectacular after all) and took a pic of the Korean air 747 landing; the pic is zoomed.

    - Unknown target, your enterprise pics, they took sections of the wings to test distress responses because of the Columbia accident.

  6. I thought you made a spacecraft out of wood...

     :p

Same here. A really easily broken spacecraft.

So did I...I was thinking of how cool would it look like( not that it doesn't) in wood.

Oh well, next time title it BalZam, or balsamh, or Bhalsamh to keep us from getting confused... ;)

  7. the F-22 raptor ( or may be the YF? ) to which they took the engines off...

Last one but not least. The last thing you think you would see at this museum....the mother ship from the movie "Close encounters".

Also you would find several rockets and rocket trusters in detail I took pictures of; as well as a bunch of gliders and wind-man powered planes...

  8. I went to this museum on the first of Jenuary when I thought everyone was going to have a hung over and wake up late. For my surprise over 5000 visitors showed up along with us. The good thing is that this museum is just 5 minutes from my house.

I took several pics for modeling reference, specially the concord's landing gear. You can see a great amount of WWII and modern planes displayed, including the space shuttle enterprise; but that's about all what this museum has to offer for now.

Also if you get to see a movie in the Imax theater I suggest you to see the show "Adrenaline rush"; is worth watching..

...The pics from the entrance 2nd floor you can see the 'Black bird' with the Enterprise in the background. this is the part where the restorers make you go WOW.....
