because of consecutive vf-1 release fatigue, or the latest vf-1 figures aren't the main rides for the hero characters? The VF-4 is different mold I guess and is part of the original Macross, but I didn't even watch the VF-2SS so not excited about it

Me too. The Tomahawk is probably my favorite of the destroid designs. It's like an amalgam of the spartan's chest missiles and lasers, the defender's legs and waist, and large cannons like the monster, and longer range missiles on the shoulder like the phalanx, and a head with machine guns similar to the vf-1j head. Parking it next to the monster is gonna be the bomb!

Macross gurus, wasn't the VF-1 designed to walk the giant sized halls of the SDF1, and the alien ship had giant sized controls, and be sized like the aliens (zentran)? and they should fit inside a pod like the zentran soldiers? Max's valk fit the uniform of a zentran soldier so the valk should be the same size as a standard soldier, so those scale charts are VERY off. In both charts, those zentran soldiers couldn't fit into the pods.
  4. This is pretty similar to the business model that some smaller companies already take. In addition, they add on more reissues as fans write in, and then they open 2nd preorder batch, 3rd, etc.
  5. I've thought about this too. Just pay, throw money and not stress out. But there's a limit to what I can afford, and also if I could, I can't justify it. Perhaps your wives are more cool.
  6. I only have one yamato 1/48. it's still in pristine condition, plastic not even yellow. that's why I didn't jump into this new line right away. the yamato 1/60 v2, I bought the first run hikky strike, and one shoulder had a crack, so I bought another one. The crack formed even though I handle it about once a year. Pretty disappointed in the quality and tolerance of such a high end collectible. I love to see sh9000 photos of his fleet, and tekering's dioramas so I get peeps collecting multiples. But I agree with you on hoarding, the toys deteriorate over time - the crack on the shoulder formed in between handlings, not during handling. Saturday night live made fun of this: one to display, one to collect, one "just in case" - haha
  7. This +1 love the toy, hate the dysfunctional preorder madness. We’re buying pieces of art, but we have such a stressful experience with ordering that the enjoyment is very reduced. It’s a lot like early days of Bestbuy Black Friday- cartjacking, wasted time and disappointment. Except Bestbuy have since improved the experience so it’s more civilized and less frustration.
  8. Supporting local shops has the advantage that the shop owner actually holds the product for their loyal customers. But the high rents are killing their business.
  9. The figuarts line is a good example of the cycle of scarcity, scalping and eventual knock offs.
  10. Collectively we might influence a retailer not by boycotting. Talking with them? Bandai might be big. As a group we’re not that small. And even big tv shows have responded to their small fans who are overseas.
  11. Interesting point. Arcadia is probably the only competition at this point. All the more reason for the knock off or new contenders to enter the market. Sometimes those small companies produce better stuff than the big companies.
  12. Nice pics. That’s an interesting point, considering my impression was that most japanese don’t seem to speak English outside of Tokyo, but I haven’t travelled extensively . I still think we are a secondary market that they are aware of. Why else fight over rights with harmony gold if it’s an empty market?
  13. This. I was describing a similar model for production lot, i think it was volks for five star stories and their models can be expensive than dx chogokin. Bandai would more likely do a hybrid of getting preorders and also producing in excess for mass market that does not preorder stuff, since they are a big company. Maybe our community could talk with Bandai about our fan base and market here. Some companies actual listen to their fan base. Recently the mospeada yellow is including the guns and containers that fans were making themselves.
  14. Unfortunately not everyone can pay the price. I did move on; I was out of the frontier game and rage quit. I came back when hmr became a thing. It was easy to collect no preorder madness. Hmr are from the same company Bandai but without the rahe and madness. years later nothing really changed with the dx line the preorder disfunctional madness is driving me away. Its a damn shame that Bandai would lose out on sales and we lose on such nice works of art. We are fans and so we get stressed. If we weren’t, we wouldn’t give two cents. and since I’ve seen other companies manage this problem better and deliver fans the product without a gouging middle man, I thought I’d weigh in.
  15. Thanks for your suggestions but I think it’s not a good situation to be competing against each other like this. Best buy had these problems with their online black friday sales and they havecsince had a lot less cart jacking. Walmart hasn’t had a trampling in some time. I’m quoting another person here but the price differences add up. The proce gouge is enough to buy another hmr strike roy! I don’t speak japanese but i think western markets matter to Bandai. Why else do the put the signage in japanese and english for these toys? And why make sh figuarts of the avengers? I’d think a good chunk of demand is from western markets.
  16. Haha I’m not a historian but I think greed was around before capitalism, feel free to correct me. I pointed out we, the collectors are partly to blame for giving in to scalpers redonculous prices. Can you be specific about stepping our game up? I’ve join macrossworld forums, I suggested to each if the major retailers, even tried contacting Bandai about these problems. And they don’t do squat. Most of the retailers popular here mostly provide good service or they’d be on mwf bad list. But they fail on dx chogokin preorder madness and gundam metal builds. Otherwise they’re ok. I think Graham used to have contact with Yamato/arcadia, but Does anyone here have contact with Bandai? We may be a small community, but the issues are prevalent in global markets and japanese market too since we see the markups everywhere. If you guys have suggestions, I think we all want to hear them.
  17. This blue seems deep and purplish compared with the pics on the website order page. It’s probably the lighting but the shoulders and air intakes look like painted blue with a thicker coat. I like this blue color more than the stock photos.
  18. I agree. I think there’s an additional benefit to knock offs - not that I approve of stealing other people’s intellectual property- is that they can be parts for broken originals. I know there’s shapeways, but someone has to make the part available. And it’s $25 per part. A knock off is an entire set of replacement parts. This issue would not be a benefit though if companies would stand behind their product and provide a service for replacement of parts. Bandai does have this service but it’s limited to Japan. a buddy ‘s kid broke theor masterpiece which was out of production, so they bought a ko and took the parts from the ko, since the quality of the original is obvious. although some ko companies quality exceeds the original, and others fan company are putting out variants of the originals that aren’t available. Either way, scalping and prices go down, and the market has inventory. If bandai got production numbers closer to demand, the scarcity wouldn’t result in the customers and Bandai getting screwed.

The VF-4 looks so sleek in fighter mode. The battloid mode is lanky. I didn't get into the VF31 line, but is the cockpit transformation similar? Both sequences seem to show the pilot in an upright position. any news on the Tomahawk, or the Phalanx or the Quedlan Rau?
  20. Greed. Scalpers wouldn't make money if collectors weren't interested in paying the amounts they ask for. There are peeps who can afford and pay the $100 price hike the scalpers put up. There isn't a lot of scalping for low margin items, like $10 toys at Walmart. The transformers MP line has scalping, but it's not as bad as it was before, because the knock off companies started cashing in with low prices. Sicne there are of cheap knock offs, a lot of buyers didn't bite on the high priced originals on ebay. collectors get ripped off on fake "originals". Scalpers' inventory sits. The yamarcadia are dealing with some KO now too. If the scalpers didn't drive the prices up, the knock off companies probably wouldn't knock off as much. If Bandai produced enough quantity, the scalpers wouldn't profit. Bandai has done nice for Macross DX line, but just a matter of time what happened to the MP and yamarcadia is for Bandai. There are already knock off Gundams. The knock offs also lower the value of our originals. Bandai has to sue the knock off company like it is now suing some company in China for the copyright. That cuts in profits. Peeps like me are priced out of these high end collectibles. And I don't feed the scalpers. That sucks for us collectors, and for Bandai, yamarcadia, Takara, etc. When we were kids, Macross valks or Jetfire were just toys, not commodities. Now we stress over a 2 second window or pay scalper prices. Greed doesn't work. all this behavior is reducing my enjoyment of such iconic art. Is it just me?
  21. Thanks Shizuka and rest for posting. I didn't know that orders open up on release, cuz I'm still looking for a 1j. I thought they were going to put up another "regular/standard" release of the 1j without the "first release" stand. Guess I'll look on release date cuz I don't like paying markup. That blue paint looks almost candy, and the side of vent close to the cockpit looks purplish. nice.
  22. After preorder madness Sunday and yellow blowsperior monday, just crashed. Still looking for vf-1j and now 1a. Getting down from this hobby, so much effort. Dx line made me rage quit frontier...
  23. thanks guys. wow amazon's shipping is cheap, usually EMS is about twice the cost at hobbysearch and amiami even with combined shipping
  24. no I got to the payment, then cartjacked at hobby search
  25. new to ordering from amazon, thanks no3Ljm. Does it cover insurance, if the package is lost? I usually use EMS for items at this price, registered sal for cheaper items.
