It's a repaint of Rook's MPC Alpha and they've already reviewed the MPC Alphas. If you were hoping they made improvements, they didn't. You won't see any of the Aoshima improvements either. Sorry. -

So it's true about it being a reapaint, and for some people a poor one. Why people insist on giving these people money is a mystery to me.

LOL, I don't know if they've always done this but I remember my RT.com ordered Beta came with a RT.com return address in the box. I thought to myself "wow, they really expect us to have to ship this right back to them?" Maybe they handled a sample of Maia's Alpha and expected the worst.

Guess that's the closest thing to an apology or admittance of failure the company is ever going to get about their products.

Now for the Alpha, what a piece of JUNK! I opened the box, pulled out the plane and first off the paint is not gloss and does not have a smooth feel to it. That's makes sense because it is supposed to be a stealth fighter. I looked it over and noticed right away the glue spots below the intakes, but I figured I could deal with that because you don't see it unless you turn it over. So I decided to transform it, and it was very stiff, as if over glued. I moved the arms over and tried to fold them down for battloid mode, and one of them wouldn't move. I looked at the joint to make sure that there was something missing. I rotated it and some glue that was preventing it from moving finally let go, and under that was a mess, but I decided to continue on and try to fold it down again thinking I could move on. It was still stuck, so I applied more pressure. First the fore arm broke off, and then the sholder peeled right off as if it was made out of paper. The small hinge that allows the arm to fold down was glued solid.

Don't think I am just rough on my collection, I'm not. I am trying to get in contact with the seller of the item to see what can be done.

Hope you make use of their return and replacement policy if they have one.

At this point I'm not surprised they still recycle material from other films. They've been doing it for years. I've seen ads for Filipino rip offs based on movies like Titanic and Lord of the Rings where I grew up, and this was in the U.S.

Cool, I saw a commercial for this a while back on a local channel, but never looked it up because I kept forgetting the name. From the looks of the review, it's too bad it didn't turn out to be anything special. Just Pinoy.

there's something that's been bothering me for a long time about the "blame it on the syndication requirements" angle. sure, HG and Macek are saying they would have liked to dub macross direct without having to add 2 other anime series. but even if it was only macross, it would still have to be dubbed and westernized a bit. the cynical part of me has a feeling that the finished product of Macross -- even if it was ONLY Macross -- would still be quite different from the original. I think HG would still have insisted to portray minmei as a skank. i wouldn't be surprised if they still killed off global and the bridge bunnies for dramatic effect. and OF COURSE, we would still have the gadawful reba west songs; there's no going around that.

of course, this is purely speculation. but my spider sense is tingling.

I always thought HG and Macek did that so they wouldn't have to give credit to the original creators and save money. Before anyone knew Shoji Kawamori and others were responsible for the stuff in the first part of Robotech, they gave the illusion that it was their creation. Hence the creative changes like the Veritech and Protoculture (super science/space fuel/spice/whatever). But then they had to work around things like Reba West singing; they were obligated to do so to keep the illusion going.

Speaking of Minmay, does anyone know what happened to her in the Robotech novels? I have the feeling she wasn't treated any better as that story went on.

EDIT: I found out what happened at the end for her. Don't really know what to say about it.

Is it possible that most of the VF-0s were destroyed due to the Mayan Island incident? Since they were produced in small numbers, perhaps all of them were sent to the conflict specifically to fight the SV-51 as the field test for the program, but it ended very unexpectedly. Most of the pilots didn't fare well and the UNS fleet sent there really took a beating.

Just an odd question that popped into my head: Is Robotech the only franchise under Harmony Gold making money right now? In fact, is it the ONLY thing they have that's still active?

He's the only person still podcasting about Robotech at the moment. However, he diverges into repetitive, hate filled shows most of the time contrasting Robotech with other franchises and issues with the current leadership at HG. Surprisingly, there are some people who are happy with that.

I'd rather watch the first episode of a good series rather than a movie loosely based on the first episode of a good series. Hopefully, they don't go the Psycho (1998) route, but if they can do it in 22-25 minutes the first time, why drag it out to 60-90?

*sigh* The days of rabid Toynami/Harmony Gold hating Macross fans are long gone. Those were the days. It's a new era, not welcome for dinosaurs like me. A kindler, gentler, Robotech-apologizing era.

Either that, or the era of the rabid Tommy Yune/Toynami/Harmoney Gold hating Robotech fans having a really hard time letting go.

Voting with your wallet is probably the best way to go. However, if this business with BBTS was just the beginning for HG/Toynami, it's may get harder for many Macross fans. Roger is right about the hundreds/thousands of e-shops selling the same things, but who knows if they'll be the next targets for both companies just to keep their piece of the pie.

Why now? I'd guess the reason is the economic downturn. Toynami staff have probably been given a kick in the backside and told to find/secure revenue where ever they can. Now would be the time to squeeze every last penny out of every conceivable source. If that means ruining import options for hundreds of Yamato fans in the desperate hope that a lack of Yamato products will mean a small fraction of consumers turn to Toynami products, then that's what Toynami will do.

If that's true, I wonder what Harmony Gold is going through right now.
