what does the XT stand for in the new name: vf-1s XT? It's a variant on a variant?
It's XT as in extreme. You know, like whenever an X is put after something to make it hardcore:
VF-1S- EXTREME!!!

lol !!! $5 million for that piece of poo. I smell fraud ...
From the animation company's side, DR Movie, it's probably more impressive when converted to Korean Wons. Current rates turn $5 million into ₩6759000000 (KRW).

I really didn't see moe getting as big as it is. While it's popular in certain circles there are others who are really getting sick of it as a cliche of anime. The reason? This blogger has begun to count the ways:

Is that a good thing or a bad thing?
After hearing his shows this week, I'm honestly not really sure. I think he's frustrated with the current Robotech situation like others and has branched out talking about other things as well. I guess I felt charitable and wanted to spread the word. Plus, I wanted to follow the rules about keeping Robotech drama in this thread for a change.
Don't worry, he's harmless. Not like the other one.

For a series in the process of reviving itself, you have to wonder sometimes what is really going on behind the scenes with this silent treatment. Besides existing productions, online sources for Harmony Gold like the homepage, imdb, and wikipedia (who knows how reliable these sources are) doesn't mention anything new being worked on by the company since 07-08. Would it surprise anyone if something big like layoffs at HG, the IP getting sold to someone else, or the company going bankrupt happen out of nowhere? Anyone good in business or economics have a take on this?

Ugh, Shadow Chronicles is still awful.
Well, can't blame him for the lack of material with the franchise really quiet at the moment. Except for some blurbs about merchendise, "movie" updates, and convention panels, who knows what the situation is.

Just read the synopsis of episode 14 over at http://randomc.animeblogger.net/2009/01/11...age-2/#comments and this one caught my attention:
-When the song stopped Setsuna from completely destroying the Arche Gundam, I had flashbacks of Macross… It’s a shame too because I was rooting for him to kill Ali Al Saachez.
Shades of Macross?
Now that you mention it, this cracked me up:

Hmm, I didn't know the Laserdisc industry was still alive up until right now:
Pioneer Stops Making Laserdisc Players After 27 Years
An end of an era I guess.

Btw youtube is starting to mute unlicensed music on the site (like this one, over 6 million views and 3 years later it got muted)
That sucks, I'm surprised they just muted the affected songs. It might be a courtesy warning for the posters but I expected them to immediately delete them out of nowhere. Without the audio, why bother keeping the video online?

The R.D.F. Underground podcast by Justy Ueki is back after a long hiatus and keeping the dream alive:

And that makes them different from the rest of the entertainment industry in which way?

No heart, no love, reduce other people's work to filler to fulfill syndication requirements, and come up with a rationalization later.
I guess I should have said maximizing profits by taking credit for everything they didn't make themselves and make a franchise out of it. You end up with the resources (and toys) of three series to work with. The predicted result:

I do get that, and I, for one, was first introduced to all of this by Robotech... read the Robotech books and loved (almost all of) them... but I just don't think it's not a realistic comparison, and does disservice to the original work.
When they first started Robotech, I doubt they cared about the original works. It's always been about making money.

Serisouly, all three of these shows existed in their own world. You can't say that the mecha in one are better than the mecha in another. Each show had its own rules about what a vehicle or mecha can do and can't, how missiles work, how vehicles get damaged... and all three are completely different.
Unfortunately, Robotech made the connection possible somehow and people swear to it even now. However, most of the debates revolve around the Robotech versions of each mecha, or at least I think there were changes made like running on Protoculture, etc. Sometimes it turns really ugly too.

Can we please keep the Robotech generations out of the discussion about SDC Southern Cross? It seems to be the bane of this show always having to be compared to Macross and Mospeada due to the RT link. Both visually and story wise Southern cross draws more from Gundam then anything else anyway.
Exactly, everywhere else in the Internet can't stop talking about that crap, all because someone said, "This is the second generation of our story, honest," and rolled with it.

Curse those 25 years of mind games.

Has anyone said anything that would lead you to believe there will be a season 2...?
I'm not trying to be an ass, it's just that we have enough unverified rumors out there already...we don't need to be adding more to the pile.
No, I've heard nothing about there being a season 2, just me wishing. Hopefully my post doesn't start any crazy rumors about it. It's just that things are doing good for the series, hell the franchise, right now that Kawamori can if he wants to. I won't complain if he goes back to it after that basketball anime he's doing and probably another Armored Core game. Just to make sure:
I have heard nothing about a Macross Frontier season 2. Serious
-
I wouldn't worry so about how the movie will be. If it's going to be a retelling, it will probably end up ranging from decent to good. Macross is Kawamori's baby after all, give him the money, resources, and some ground rules (unless being a troll also means being a rebel) and he'll get it done in his own quirky way. I'm more interested in whether or not there will be a Macross Frontier season 2.

From the Robotech perspective, it's still funny how they changed from fighter planes to space helicopters due to story limitations. Though they made reasons for the changes between generations, the military must have been smoking/drinking a lot of Protoculture to give up on a lot of things like the
Valkyrie programfirst Veritech. No wonder they lost Earth.I guess there's some consultation for the lack of Southern Cross love. The lore from the series was incorporated into the history of the Robotech universe and defined Protoculture until they went overboard with the idea. I've heard it went way out there by the end of the novels, so I guess Southern Cross ended up shaping the Robotech universe through the good and the bad times.
That's probably why I like watching the original series as its own thing, it's simpler and not as full of itself. And the Auroran looks cool too without all that Robotech generational luggage.

Beta? Oh please...the only reason the Beta is getting "Love" is because until recently the only "real" tread toy you could get cost you your left testicle, a kidney, and your firstborn child. I've gotten to mess with one, and I was very unimpressed. Besides, why on earth would you want that POS when you could get a Brave Alpha/Tread set that is so much cooler it's not even funny.
At the price they're selling the Toynami Beta combined with the economy these days, it must feel like it still costs people that left testicle, kidney and child. Even worse, there are variants coming out with, possibly, the same story.
Unfortunately, I'm not that adventurous with money, but I feel for you.

Palladium Books INC.「Robotech®: The Masters Saga Sourcebook」
VFH-10B ?
Being a Palladium/Robotech book, I wonder how reliable the information in it really is? Not just in terms of playing an RPG.

Probably a saving grace for all those bad movies that come every so often. It's good to know there are people who think the same way.

More to come.

Wow, way to be 8 years out of date. Did you somehow miss the neat little 1/100 Valkyries or the massive Beta fighter that is getting so much love lately?
Actually, that's something I've been wondering about. Now that the first Beta is out are there any other toys they can release that isn't a rehash or color variant of a previous toy?

Well, this is the best I could do for the full OP, Deja Vu. It's decent, enjoy:
Thoughts on Moe
in Anime or Science Fiction
Posted
There's nothing wrong with moe girls, but the author's point is probably that it's being used too much in modern anime to appeal to a the audience and is, perhaps, mutating.
