  1. Whenever a singer in Macross comes on stage, I hit mute for a few seconds, and turn it back on. That is the lamest, most annoying, repeated line in Macross.

    My response:

"Yeah, lady, we're all here to do just that. Now shut up and sing. And it had better be pretty, damn deculture this time!"

Sheryl was okay because she didn't do it much. Basara on the other hand couldn't go an episode without saying the damn thing.

    "Listen to my song!"

"Dammit Basara, can you please let me do the shooting and killing in peace? I'm working here!"

  2. This show is awful. Now there's going to be an evil transformer or some arch rival in the series..ugh

A preview was shown during the NFL playoff games on Saturday.

I saw that trailer too, my first thought was Michael Bay was hired to boost ratings. I was enthusiastic about the new show when it premiered but lost interest after the first episode. KITT lost some of his charm now, like how he can transform into other vehicles like a truck and etc. As for his personality, I liked how Joel McHale from E!'s The Soup summed it up:

"No, I asked for anti-lock brakes, not passive-aggressive douche airbags."

    And where's the Hoff?

  3. Southern Cross was an okay show with some ideas that made it unique compared to other series. I guess for a show with a small(?) following I guess it's too bad it got canceled early. Robotech put some of the stuff cut from the show into their lore and RPG, but does anyone know where the show would've gone with a full budget?

  4. Yes, but Dess and his 2 trinity brothers died. So in that sense, the Zors are defeated totally. (Leaderless. And the show did stress that the Zors take commands from the top hierarchy, and weren't capable of individual thoughts.) Also, their bio-energy reserves are way too low at the end of the show such that they even have to liquidate their own newborns. In that sense, they are sad. Even worse off than the Zentraedis, imo.

Sounds like the series ends in mutual destruction for both sides.

  5. God, did we *really* need most of those episodes though?

    Taksraven

The last episodes were decent, except for the revival of the love triangle. In the long run, it set the stage for the series to become a franchise with man spreading out into space and etc. Sure, that also applied to Robotech, but they wasted that opportunity for the sake of syndication.

  6. I remember that in the last season, i think the writers knew they weren't going to get a third season so they just started going nuts with over the top plots and technology.

I'm not sure if this happened, but did they have technology that turned Neosapians into furries or animal hybrids? I know they were desperate near the end of the war, but it was unusual to say the least.

  7. For a mecha war series, I'm surprised this series never got a table-top RPG and other merchandise besides toys. I played the side-scroller Genesis game years ago, but now I think it really had potential to go the whole Mechwarrior/Battletech route. If they took out some of the crazier parts of the series, it could have gone further on its own.

Has there been any thoughts about a revival?

  8. One thing I remember from this show was the noob pilot in the squad. IIRC, while everyone else used some kind of mecha, I think there was also a two seater in there, this guy was stuck with a space plane or something and got shot down a lot. Don't remember if they did anything with him over the course of the series. Also, that Cossack(?) pirate leader with the crazy white hair.

It was an okay series, but I wish they gave it an ending. Back in the day I was hoping to find out what was going on the last episode and was shocked to learn that was all they animated. I also heard in the 2000s about the supposed tie in with Robotech somewhere down the line, but wasn't sure if that was just a toy thing or something that was going to happen. It was probably a good thing that the deal didn't go through, which could've bogged down the series and creators into the ongoing Robotech/Macross licensing problem. At least from the toyline I bought, on impulse, what I later discovered to be a big Destroid Tomahawk.

  9. I heard about its educational purposes from the Anime World Order podcast. Production wise, it made sense, but back when I watched the edited U.S. version with its quirks, I was left really confused.

Yeah, but he chose MegaZone 23 Part 1 over DYRL, IIRC.

Either way, in his hands the end product would have begun and ended his movie making career.

  10. Heavy Metal, now that was a crazy one I remember (stupid green ball). I liked the Den and Taama segments the best. One question though: Did the movie tone down the material usually seen in the Heavy Metal Magazine? I only caught a glimpse of the magazine a couple of years ago.

Also, thanks for remembering the Claymation Christmas Celebration, especially the Joy to the World part. That one was a cop out, little/no clay involved at all! Don't know if they showed it on TV this year, but at least it's on youtube and DVD.

  11. Yep.

And yes, he is indeed the writer and creator of Valkyrion.

Other than that, I have no idea what to say about this. It doesn't look very appealing.

So the guy remembered for pieing a comic book artist and current leader of a franchise is trying to get into the comic book industry himself. How ironic.
