@Einherjar your continual use of that spasming wannabe Minmay is gonna give someone a seizure.

Mission accomplished then.  Now people know how the wannabe Zentradi are feeling in this universe.

I never thought about that. Is it possible there’s more Macross fans than RT fans in the states?

Kevin definitely talks about Macross fans like they’re kindred spirits that hg is trying so hard to bring into the fold..

As I showed, that's because the last time they antagonized purists it set back his franchise for years.

In a consumer driven market, why would you beef with a fanbase of the original  that spends on average $80 to $600 per product purchase vs your core base that barely clears $100 per purchase of your derivative?

If they waited a couple of years for the troll farms and etc., then it would have been a viable strategy.  Or not, since it was supposed to be about crowdsourcing money instead of picking fights with people. Or was it always about that, even today?

Sorry, I really don’t get all this BS in social media these days.  When the dust settles from that announcement that has just spiraled out of control in just a month everyone just ends up with stuff like this to make excuses for.

There's a few HG-related incidents in specific I'm thinking of, but for a while it seemed like HG's official corporate stance was "Macross fans are scum and we must ensure they can't spread their filth or even enjoy their hobby in private, we will DESTROY THEM AND ALL THEY LOVE MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!".

I'd hoped their attitude was softening after they went back on their word and licensed SDF Macross for an official english release, but things rapidly returned to business-as-usual afterwards.

    Never forget.

  4. It would be a real shame if all that “35 more years” thing was just good old fashioned grandstanding from a couple of people known to do that a lot over the years, because the Internet has really become a different beast compared to how it was when they started.  For starters, there can be real life consequences for doing it now.

  5. I can’t help but think that the staff at Titan Comics did interviews with similar talking points as this BF guy years ago as this series started.  It might end up the same way story and quality-wise despite the overly positive outlook the creators have.

Oof, don’t want to be in BF’s shoes when his comic comes out after the Floating Head’s statement.

I thought the deviance in the depictions of the valks and characters were in preparation for them to lose their claim to SDF Macross.

It might still happen.  All that garbage news from convention panels this year might be an old man’s last ditch effort to save his job.

So... People love that she brought an end to an intergalactic war through the power of song, they just... hate bringing an end to an intergalactic war through the power of song.

A different type of audience love that she brought an end to an intergalactic war through the power of song.  Robotech fans love just the mecha, the epic scope of the conflict, and the pro-military aspects in Macross, but not the idol and anti-war stuff.  The powers that be there probably think so too, but due to basing the most important part of their franchise on someone else's source material, have been forced to keep up this facade that there's a point to her existing at all.  And with that, come up with a rational, maybe scientific, explanation for bringing an end to that intergalactic war that would fit the setting better than some magical mumbo jumbo.  The best they could come up recently is mind control powers and no actual singing talent needed?  She's supposed to be singing something on that page I guess, but from the lyrics I really don't want to know more about it.

With all the effort Robotech fans have apparently put into ripping off Macross, I wonder why they don't just, y'know, be Macross fans. Seems like it would be much less effort, and more fulfilling to boot.

Are you being rhetorical?  I can't tell, but I thought people over the years have made it clear it's because of her and everything that came about because of her.  Yet they still have to make excuses for her being around at the expense of whatever gritty, serious war story people really want this to be.

They ended saying that Sony had requested new material so they were hoping to have a bigger announcement in the next 18 months.

That’s 18 issues in comic book time to sacrifice Minmay for the greater good of the franchise. Also a significant amount of time in the future to make excuses if very little actually happens with what they say in the panels.

  10. Really don’t know how the comic book industry works, but I don’t think it’s a good sign that Internet promotional pieces are already spoiling the story breaking time/space shenanigans with the comic months/years before those actual issues come out.  Until now I assumed that the cast had already been transported to what might as well be called hell.
