  1. The dark maroon stripe that follows along the LERX and to the chest area just ends abruptly there whereas it should continue and taper down on the hip guns. In addition, they neglected to paint some of the white panel details, which I have easily remedied on mine since the panel grooves already exist. There's also an additional green sensor/lens on the nose that they didn't color. The front most ones they have used clear green colored plastic, but they jsut left an empty void where there should be a second one following it. I've highlighted the areas I'm talking about. I was just going to do a swap of the hip guns with one of my existing VF-27s but I found that they had remolded/modified the hip guns and the ball it connects to as the sockets on the hip guns of the original are too big for the ball on the new one to connect to. I don't know why they felt the need to redo this area. This is likely the reason why the hip guns keep falling off on the new one. Either the socket wasn't designed as well or the smaller surface area affords less grip.
  2. Yeah, I will be doing my usual weathering and clear coating on this. I just need to find the time. First, I'm trying to color match the darker maroon stripes to paint the stripe they missed on the hip guns. I'm having a hard time getting it right and I don't remember the colors I used doing it the first time around.
  3. I've been using super glue pretty liberally on this thing to tighten up the joints. You could try rolling the nozzle down to one side, putting a drop of super glue on the ball portion and rolling and twisting the nozzle around until the glue dries.
  4. Where they dropped it was fine. My whole point was that they normally ring the doorbell, but they didn't and that the tracking which I checked daily was never updated so it never showed it was out for delivery or even delivered so I didn't even know to check. I never expected them to stand and wait for me to come to the door or anything. If they couldn't be bothered to ring the doorbell, they probably wouldn't call me or leave a note either. But this whole thing was out of the ordinary in terms of my experiences with the USPS, so whatever. They have always rang the doorbell before so I'll just chalk it up to an off day.
  5. A lot of this is highly subjective or may vary from copy to copy, but here's my positives and negatives in comparison to the version 1 without consideration of the super pack. Pros: Neck extension slightly longer. Crotch piece can angle out and lock in place. Hips are positioned lower making the battroid mode not look squat. Color of the feet and thruster nozzles are now correct. Tampo printing is very durable so you're not going to accidentally scrape it off. More paint applications added in some areas they forgot before. The "101" on the starboard nacelle dorsal fin is now properly aligned (was crooked on the original). Comes with poseable hands. All the hands use the much better ball socket implementation used in the renewals, allowing them to support heavier objects without going limp. The wings and nacelles are slightly remolded with fewer screwholes and allow for better hiding of the the existing holes with the caps. Outer wings can be canted downwards a click in fighter mode allowing for a more aggressive looking stance, reminiscent of the YF-21. (not sure if this was on purpose or not, but this was not possible on the original) Gunpod is not as floppy as the original. Includes a swappable clear canopy. Cons: The tampo printing is in gray instead of white. There's too much tampo printing. Much of it isn't canon and is way overdone. It's hard to remove the tampo printing without messing up the painted areas or scuffing up the plastic. The new shoulder block joint isn't really an improvement and might even be considered worse in some ways. Joints are looser. The front plate on the crotch piece likes to fall off. Doesn't seem as tight in fighter mode, possibly due to things being looser. Hip guns fall off easily. The gunpod is no longer held in place in fighter mode by a swing down extension from the bottom of the back plate.
  6. Man that sucks. I'm guessing they have no indication in the description that it had a broken part? If so, that's very shady of them. They knew of it, hence the glue from the fix attempt. Used and broken are definitely not the same thing.
  7. Normally they just drop the package, ring the bell and leave. They don't bother waiting around. With the tracking still saying that the package is at the sort facility, who knows how long it would have been sitting out there if I hadn't decided to more the lawn. When I leave or enter the house, I always go out through the garage so I rarely see if there's something at my front door.
  8. Man, that tampo printing is a real b!@#h to remove compared to the actual paint on the painted parts. I wish whatever they used for the new tampo printing was actually used for the painted areas. Then people wouldn't complain about scraped paint. I've been using rubbing alcohol and paper towels to try to remove the tampo printing but it's very stubborn while the paint itself is as pathetic as ever and comes off with the slightest contact with the alcohol. The glossy plastic got scuffed up pretty good by the paper towels and my fingernails from all the rubbing and scraping but in the end it won't matter after I do a clear coat. I guess I'm going to have to leave most of the tampo printed details on because they're very close to painted areas. I don't even bother with the add on clip that plugs into the arm since I hate having to keep track of additional pieces between transformations if I can avoid it. I just use the c-clip built into the gunpod to hold it in place and it seems to work well enough.
  9. I just found that the postman had left my VF-27 on the porch yesterday and didn't even ring the doorbell. I was home all day so I would've heard it if he had and the tracking was still showing it at a sorting center. So it was sitting outside all night. Anyway, I just messed with it a little and I have to say I'm rather underwhelmed. The many of the joints are loose like the shoulders so they can't even hold the arms up. Looks like I'll be using some super glue here. I really dislike the implementation of the shoulder block joint. They should have gone with the VF-25 renewal style joint. Instead, it's slightly different from the original, but merely a sidegrade rather than an improvement. It creates a bigger gap making the shoulder block further away from the main torso and doesn't angle up very well, at least on mine. Overall, it seems not as solid in fighter mode either and the hip guns keep falling off in both battroid and fighter modes. This wasn't a problem with either of my v1 27's. With all that said, the battroid mode is still a huge improvement over the original and is really the main reason why I got it. The super parts actually look very good on it. While the arm isn't able to hold the gun up (until I fix it with some super glue), the wrists at least are not limp anymore and can properly support the weight of the gunpod. The gunpod itself seems a little improved. One of the barrel halves on the originals would sag lower than the other when split and looked very annoying in fighter mode. That doesn't appear to be the case with this new one. The "C" clip also seems to work much better than the ineffective little hook (if you can even call it that) that the old ones had.
  10. Me too. I would have loved to get and build it otherwise.
  11. Plug them in on one side of the ARMD instead of right in the middle. I find it easier to do that way. It takes a lot of effort until you get the hang of it. I honestly don't know why they put magnets in there. They don't do anything useful.
  12. Well crap. NOW I'm around when one is actually up, but I don't really need it. Good luck to anyone else.
  13. I thought the handle was just molded gray plastic. Good to know.
  14. That's a nice looking Milia custom 17S. Good job on that!
  15. These issues didn't start until the 171 CF came out. Alto's was more or less fine.
  16. The v1 stand will scrape the paint off the front of legs (source: personal experience). I wouldn't recommend it.
  17. Mine has been "preparation in progress" for a few days now at NY. That seems like a long time to "prepare" a package.
  18. Argh. Always at a time when I'm either asleep or was driving to work.
  19. I agree. They seemed to nuts with the made up markings. I particularly don't like the solid white lines on the chest and shoulder parts, the 101 on the shoulders and the Antares101 on the shield. I'm going to try to remove what I can when I get mine. I had to double check the movies and the art booklet that came with the Sayonara no Tsubasa blu-ray and the VF-27 definitely didn't have those extra markings. It should be identical to the TV version. The YF-29 and 30 are even more advanced, but they have as much detail as the 25. The 25, 27 and 29 are also all based off of the YF-24. Even if they didn't put in the details that the model had, it would have been nice if they put in all the panel lines that the animation had at the very minimum. There are fewer screw holes in this new release, and the ones that are there, have square caps over them instead of round ones which means some changes to the molds were made.
  20. Wow, Dobber. That looks very good, especially for free handed work. That must have been extremely mind numbing and tedious to do!
  21. Ah, I think you're right. But, yeah... the shield connector is garbage on the YF-29. It wiggles around like a loose baby tooth.
  22. ff95gj, Could you also comment on if they improved the gunpod any? I see they changed the connection point to use the handle instead and modified the secondary hook, but I'm curious as to whether they tightened up the halves of the barrel so that the ends remain on an even level to each other. On both of mine, the two halves are kind of floppy when split apart and when upside down as it is in fighter mode, one side droops down lower than the other. To prevent that, I'd have to cheat by tucking them on top of the front landing gear wheel, which I hate.
  23. I'm thinking it's the lighting also. The first pic makes the turret gun look more yellowish, but the 2nd, rear angled shot makes it look like it's the same as the rest of the fighter. I wish they did something with the shield connector for fighter mode. It's not stable and doesn't hold well in comparison to the renewal 25's and it really shows in that second pic.
  24. Man, if they release the Grace version again, I hope they can fix the colors on it like they did with the RVF-25 renewal. The non-matching shades of green on it just looks terrible. Thanks for the confirmation on the angling lock for the crotch part! Does the landing gear collapse easily on yours? I didn't know it was an issue for the 27. My version 1's hold the landing gears in place pretty well. It looks to me like it has screwhole covers now, which is a big plus. For reference for those that want to compare, here's what the version 1 looks like on the ventral side.
  25. The differences may be subtle, but they add up and go a long way toward making the battroid mode look a whole lot better. I just want to know if the crotch part can stay angled on its own or if it really needs that spacer part. All the pictures I've seen seem to have it on there. I'm glad they also fixed the crooked "101" on the starboard stabilizer that was an issue on the version 1 VF-27. They also remembered to put the metallic green paint near the guns on the wing nacelles and on the shield, where I had to paint that myself.
