Misa Hayase: White Reminiscenses Translated

Misa_WR01

Gubaba, from Macross SpeakerPodCast, has posted a complete English translation for the Macross® novella, Misa Hayase: White Reminiscences. Despite having been originally published in 1984, this is the first time that White Reminiscences has ever been translated into English. White Reminiscences recounts Misa’s early life experiences, from her initial meeting with Riber Fruhling to her days at the UN Spacy Officer’s Academy during the tumultuous period of the Unification Wars. Having been conceived by Macross creator, Shoji Kawamori, and written by Macross screenplay writer, Hiroshi Ohnogi, White Reminiscences is a canonical piece of Macross literature and an absolute must read for fans.

An Interview With Robert Woodhead About AnimEigo’s Macross DVD Set

Although The Super Dimension Fortress Macross® is widely regarded as an exceptional anime series, it was never subtitled in English duing the 1980’s and 1990’s.  Sure, Streamline Pictures attempted to subtitle the series in Robotech® Perfect Collection: Macross, but they went out of business by episode 16.  Even flipping through old VHS fansub catalogues yields no evidence of any fansubs during that period.  In 2001, the prayers of Macross fans were finally answered when AnimEigo® released the entire series subtitled.  Since 2012 marks the 30th anniversary of Macross, I thought it would be a good time to catch up with AnimEigo’s CEO, Robert Woodhead, for a retrospective interview about their acclaimed Macross DVD set.

Confirmed: USA Xbox 360 Gamers Can Download Macross VF-1 Skins For Ace Combat Assault Horizon

Last month, Tochiro reported that Namco Bandai released downloadable VF-1 skins for Ace CombatAssault Horizon in Japan.  Initially, we believed that USA gamers would not be able to download these skins.  However, thanks to Macross_Fanboy, we’ve learned that it is indeed possible for USA gamers to download these skins onto their own Xbox 360™.  These skins include Hikaru Ichijo’s VF-1J color scheme and Roy Focker’s VF-1S color scheme.  Best of all, with these templates, you can use Ace Combat™ AH’s built-in color editor to create Max & Milia VF-1J’s, as well as Hikaru, Max, and Kakizaki color schemes from DYRL.  In a nutshell, you can take the entire Skull Squadron for a spin during online multiplayer in this game!

But, there are some hoops that USA gamers will need to jump through in order to get these skins.  For a tutorial that I wrote that’ll allow USA Xbox 360™ owners to download these skins, click on the jump.  Please excuse my crappy photos.

Noburo Ishiguro at Otakon 2011

Last year, Noburo Ishiguro attended Otakon 2011, so I decided to report on some of his activities at the convention.  One of the events that he was participating in was a Q & A session, so Mechamaniac and I decided to solicit Macross World members  for questions to ask him.  We only got one question, and that was from Xard.  As it would turn out, there was only enough time to ask Ishiguro one question, so it worked out perfectly.  Xard wanted to know if Ishiguro stood back and let Shoji Kawamori have full reign over Macross: Do You Remember Love?, or if the movie was a collaborative effort between the two.   A good question since both men are credited as the directors of the movie, but fans don’t know who exactly did what.

Also included in my report is the complete transcript of Ishiguro’s speech and Q & A session, as well as my account of his autograph session, and the items that he donated to Otakon’s charity auction for the 2011 Japan Relief.  One of which was a Macross watercolor sketch by Haruhiko Mikimoto.  I do not believe that this particular watercolor sketch has ever been published in any art book or magazine.
