bsu legato Posted October 25, 2004 Posted October 25, 2004 I love warbirds, but I'm not entirely clear on what the point of this thread is. Are we supposed to discuss this stuff?

buddhafabio Posted October 25, 2004 Posted October 25, 2004 the first corsair looks nice but that scheme is from the Korean War era bird and not ww2
Capt Hungry Posted October 25, 2004 Posted October 25, 2004 Nice work Garoquel. Nice to see that you are still about. I look forward to seeing the new site.
garoquel Posted October 25, 2004 Author Posted October 25, 2004 (edited) Thats technically true but it is still an F4U4- from Navy Reserve NAS Miami 1947-1950, just a little before Korea. now if it was an F4U-5 then it would be wrong Edited October 25, 2004 by garoquel
Vespaeda Posted October 27, 2004 Posted October 27, 2004 Now THAT is one nice scheme!!! I wanna kiss that noseart girl
Shin Densetsu Kai 7.0 Posted November 1, 2004 Posted November 1, 2004 garoquel are these in photoshop or illustrator? And can you give a tutorial? They look sweet!
garoquel Posted November 1, 2004 Author Posted November 1, 2004 (edited) These are done in Illustrator first, then it is done in photoshop, but first you have to do the research find photographs pictures anything you can in the subject, markings , colors and things like that. after that its a couple of hours just doing the aluminum colors on each panel mostly a black done at 50% and a really ligth blue. then come markings, stencils, shadows and highligths. so all in all its a bout a half a days work for the basic one: Then I have a template to use for other aircraft, now if im doing lets say a RAF version I have to do camouflage and thats another process altogether. Also if I want to add rockets, droptanks and bombs I have to do them from scratch so its almost like building a plastic scale model almost Edited November 1, 2004 by garoquel
Shin Densetsu Kai 7.0 Posted November 1, 2004 Posted November 1, 2004 oh ok. So when using photoshop, do you use the magnetic lasso to outline a shape and airbrush the colors/shades in? I'm noticcing the soft edges and how crisp and precise everything is. WEll done! Reminds me of those illustrations done in books./
garoquel Posted November 1, 2004 Author Posted November 1, 2004 Innitially its two layers Panels and the Black outline in the back, all work is done on the top panel layer.
Shin Densetsu Kai 7.0 Posted November 1, 2004 Posted November 1, 2004 oh i meant like, How do you go about doin the shades? On the panel layer do you use the marquee or laso tool to make a shape and then airbrush it? Or do you use masks?
hellohikaru Posted November 1, 2004 Posted November 1, 2004 garoquel If i wanna add rockets and tanks how do i scale them to size ?
garoquel Posted November 1, 2004 Author Posted November 1, 2004 for my work I measure from pictures or drawings to get the correct size, also it depends what type of droptank youre doing since there were a good half dozen both factory and field improvized. I'll post a version with drop tanks and HVAR rockets soon
