Hey RedWolf I don't think that bird is a VF, could be just a plain fighter. Although it kinda looks like the VF-2SS from Macross II to me. I would like to see more of it however.

Good episode for the 171s, but after seeing it I have a few questions. First off just where is the gun pod mounted on the 171s. If you look at the image that grss1982 posted showing the 171 in mid transformation you can see the gun pod already in the right hand and on the legs there are what looks to be missile launchers ports. So would it be safe to say that the pod is mounted on a centerline hardpoint, or perhaps it is stored in the arm of the VF in place of the laser guns of the VF-17s. From the look of the pod it has a faceted shape to it, so it might have some low observable capability built into it for external carry, but where. On the note of the internal missile launchers, they look as if they would not be of any good in Gerwalk or Battroid modes as they are on the inside of the legs. Oh I would also like to see the 171 with it's undercarriage deployed, I can't think of a place left on it as to where the main landing gear could be. And after this last fight I think that it's official and Luca needs to be put in the BACK seat of the RVF and get someone who can really drive a VF as his pilot. I mean come on he didn't even get one round off from his gun. I'll give him credit for going after Skull-2 in the first place, but the kid has got to get into the fight or get out of the way. Any thoughts? I'm tossing in an image of the 171's ventral side for those who have not seen it yet.

Hey if that is the gun pod of the VF-171 on left of your pic, if so then does the 171 have a new gun because the VF-17 is listed as having a seven barreled gatling and that one looks like eight to me. One the note of gun pods I always want to know the number of round each type can carry, if we assume that the gun is a 30mm I would guess that the pods would only have room for about 400-450 rounds each.

As to why Ozma has them folded down and Alto doesn't it could have something to do with that radar on the top of the 25s (if that's what it is). Ozma could have the radar on and the vertical stabilizers would fold down giving the radar a clearer line of sight and Alto just is not using the radar.

I went back to episodes 1 and 2 and found these two shots that show the vertical stabilizers are still there, just folded down and not removed.

For the whole fighter to Gerwalk thing what if the throttle moves to the left with a push so that the angle doesn't change, that in turn would unlock the throttle to allow it to be pulled up for the change to battroid. There is nothing like this having been shown I know but left and right movement would not have to be a large amount. Anyway just a thought.

Always did kinda wonder just how they kept humanity going with just the people in the Macross, oh and before anyone adds anything I did know about the use of cloning and all that just not the bit about the survivors - learn something new everyday here.

I wasn't forgetting Misa but other than her are there any others that we know of that made it through the attack, I mean that she was in a deep underground base and she was possibly the only one that made it, but good point. Edit - I think that we have to follow the series as canon as DYRL was just a movie in the series.

Right now I don't think that she is all that important to Frontier but I think that she could be something more in the larger picture of things. I think that it could go in one of two big ways. One as things get bad she could be the one that helps the other stay grounded and keep them from losing track of what really matters. Or two, she dies and brings the face of war home to our crew of misfits. All that aside so far I like her and so will give her a 'yea'.

Okay so here are some my theories for Frontier and since I have not gone over all the posts before this I'm sorry if some or all have been stated before. One - The Vajra were being experimented on by the Macross Galaxy fleet, the Galaxy might have been following in the foot steps of the 117th Large Scale Research Fleet, and the Vajra got loose and started causing problems. As to why the attack on Galaxy came later as to the attacks on Frontier, if some did escape it would make sense that they would run far away and start a hive, then attack the next fleet they see. Two - Ranka is the control system for the Vajra and after the loss of 117th and the Galaxy picking up pieces, Sheryl was groomed to take her place. Than could explain as to why Grace was working for her. However after the events of episode 13 leads me to think that they have come up with a new type of control or that it is felt that there is no longer any need for control at the moment and are happy to let the Vajra run wild. Three - I think that Mao will have a larger role than most people think. As of right now all I know is that Ozma knew/knows her but my line of thinking is that just how need she survived the end of the world when the Zentradi nuked the world. Was she aboard the Macross or did some of the people of earth survive the bombardment (didn't think that was possible). She was/is a doctor, but just what type of doctor is my question. It could be that she is or was the one behind the study of Vajra in the first place after what she had been through as part of the events of Macross Zero. Four - Brera is not what he appears to be, I think that he had some kind of deal with the devil thing going on with as to how he got his cyborg body. This is due to the fact that he seems to know Ranka from somewhere and cares about her. Thats what I have for now, there is more bouncing around in my head but that can wait for another time.

Right now after having seen ep 13 I am leaning towards Brera using his implants as oppose to a wrap around system due to the fact that when his gun pod was destroyed there was that moment when the display fuzzed out and you could see that he had on a flight helmet. i can't think of a reason that a wrap around imaging system would remove the helmet from sight.

Good point, with Ranka in the back seat as someone who has no training in an Ex-Gear it would be a problem if she needed to eject for the VF only to find herself now falling through the sky in something that she could not control as to just having a ejection seat with a 'chute.

Looking over the 25 I think that it was designed from the start with the second seat in there for a few reasons that I could think of. One, with the way that a VF has to break and fold to go from fighter to battroid the space for the second seat would have to be there in the first place or else you would have a great design for a single seat Valkyrie, hand it over to NUNS guys and they come back and say 'great! we love it, btw where is the two seat model?'. oops back to the drawing board. Two, a look at fighters today show a lot of two seater are being made in order to handle the work load (makes me think that the RVF-25 should have a backseater in it). Three, having the second seat always there makes the 25 useful for search and rescue work out in space, and as to why Alto didn't use it when he rescued Luca it could be just that there was no time or the space of the second seat was taken up by added avionics for ether the dorsal radome, ventral ELINT fin, or for drone control. Oh and as for not seeing the back seat it could just be folded down and out of the way, so that you would just be seeing the back of seat in the first sceens.

My line up of top VFs would be VF-1, VF-4, VF-25, and the VF-0. (with the first three being a tie for first, just couldn't pick one over the others.)

Since we didn't see the reentry they could have had some kind of covers that blew off once he was in the atmosphere.

With four engines and some kind kind of BDI system the 27 should be able to fly and fight just fine in an atmosphere if by nothing else than by brute force. Hey what does anyone else think about those two engines on the wings having 3D thrust vectoring as well.

As of right now I myself do not see any place where there could be any internal launcher, however with the way that the wings on the 25 fold back and are out in the open in battriod would mean that stores carried on the wings would not need to be jettisoned before going upright as with just about every VF out there has had to do. I think that this is SK answer to DYRL when just about every VF-1 kept the wings out when they transformed to battriod due to the large multi missile pods that were carried. I seem to remember that some of the early pics of a white and blue VF-25 show a multi missile pods mounted on wings. On another topic I feel the that the VF-27 may not be a special ops fighter like some think, but is the VF used by the shadow group and the NUNS marking are on birds just to make everything look on the up and up (think SEELE from evangelion with the mass production EVAs). And my two cents on the 27 is that it takes the basic frame of the 25 and is customized for pilots like Brera who with their bodies would be able to use such a craft to the fullest. Also it looks as if the 27 is more of a 'power' fighter and that the 25 is a little more agile. I can't remember which episode right now but wasn't there one with 27 ether coming or going from a hanger with L.A.I. painted on the outside.
