  1. gotta agree there... DYRL Hikaru had taken quite a few pages from Fokker's book (in his own way)
  2. what?? zola is the only planet with hot springs in the macross universe or something? ^^ just think... ranka, sheryl and the gang head to a spring for a weekend... brera/alto=souseke (think 2 shades of souseke - 1 is the protector, the other is the horny guy trying to get some) michel (before his death)=kurtz ranka=tessa sheryl=kaname klan=mao luca=the mecha fan that always hangs around souseke etc things would have to be altered a bit to fit the rest of the gang in, but it would be hilarious [edit]oh man... alto, michel and luca storming the springs - and getting pwned by brera's traps - in ex-gears dressed up as enormous teddy bears[/edit]
  3. hmmm... where does the series go from here.... that is a question with some really broad possibilities. as to the current series, I am thinking that if frontier is continued beyond 25 or 26 eps it will not be immediate or in the form of an OAV or movie. I am thinking (hoping actually) that a Full Metal Panic style season 1.5 (fumoffuu-style) would be a really good departure from the typical expectations of macross, that would flesh out events that happened in the background of frontier season 1 and its' aftermath, leading into a real season 2 at a later date. this way, it could be a year or more between installments, yet still keep the fandom alive and involved. lol I can just imagine a rip of the hot springs ep (tessa's vacation/birthday iirc) in fumoffuu using the frontier gang instead!
  4. I hate to say it, but the interest/attraction on alto's part for sheryl has been there since the beginning. it was there from when he first carried her aloft after his screw-up at her first frontier concert - granted she dampened that early attraction during the interaction they had right after, when kathy was evacuating her from the amphitheatre. in comparison, alto's only thoughts on ranka after their first meeting were that she was a 'strange girl'. in this light I am leaning towards agreeing that M:F is really ranka's story, where she is the principal protagonist, and not alto - he and sheryl are both primary supporting characters.
  5. well, considering the blog was posted today, and the cat was let out of the bag last week with regards to alto, I think it is safe to assume that now that alto - the only person she truly wanted to spare from her condition - knows, she doesnt fell the need to hide it anymore.
  6. methinks this hypothesis makes a great deal of sense.... Valks must not be all that difficult to maintain or repair, or else there would be little point to using them. ahh the wonders of overtech ^^
  7. I certainly hope so... it is quite possibly sheryl's most soulful song in the series. to quote Elmo: her songs have love in them now...
  8. true that... I see your point - there are a few instances in that opening fight where I was thinking the breaking turns in particular were a bit too abrupt myself but figured that it was 'close enough' for the depiction seeing as I know for certain that I have only seen unclassified or 'documentary' footage of fighters maneuvering - I figured that in the footage I've seen they were really taking things on the easy side... more like a thunderbirds or blue angels performance (yeah I know those performances are intense, but they arent anywhere near the bleeding edge of the envelope either).
  9. anybody know what the name of the new track that debuted in ep 22 was... not northern cross but the song sheryl was singing right before klan spilled the secret to alto?
  10. I vote sheryl, but she will likely die (telling Ranka to look after him for her), and alto will be so distraught over it that it might take years for him to even think of anyone else. when he does finally recover, I predict a new triangle between him, ranka and klan! ^^
  11. it's all speculation anyway, but Sheryl would probably see the greater good in her going on the quarter if the situation were fully explained to her. in any case I dont expect Alto or luca (much as I dislike luca, I dont think he was aware of or would have had any part in the coup) to be on shooting terms with the quarter for long. true I doubt he cares at all about the political situation... these last few eps are certainly going to be interesting.
  12. I have to wholeheartedly agree here. with Zero, dogfight scenes became a high art (thanks in large part to CGI) on many levels. it doesn't hurt that of all the macross series, Zero is the most tightly focused in terms of scale. the entire series takes place on and in the immediate vicinity of mayan island, with a very small group of primary and secondary characters - indeed, the mecha themselves are more prominently featured in Zero than in any other. Only Mac+ really can compare, as it was the previous champion in this respect and to be honest is only beaten by Zero with a very small margin, almost entirely because it's dogfights were drawn the old fashioned way, and so didn't have the same level of immersive realism. for instance, in Zero ep 1, the imagery is so good in the opening dogfight that one almost thinks they are actually there - even more so for the big fight in ep 5. if SK were to 'upgrade' M+ with the CGI techniques from Zero... whoa. the rest of + is just fine as it is... all he would need to do is what Lucas did for the first 3 star wars movies when he replaced the old school effects with CGI, although Lucas did spam the CGI brush a bit too much imho - no need to show 3 dozen different beauty shots of the falcon's approach and landing on Yavin IV for example. justin.. you mention a lack of smoothness in the F-14's maneuvering... what do you mean? I understand that some movements were quite abrupt, but keep in mind that most footage you see of real modern fighters performing maneuvers really doesnt showcase what they are truly capable of.
  13. where are all these references to alto having an oedipus complex coming from? aside from sheryl reminding alto of his mother by wearing what appears to be one of his mother's kimonos, in what used to be his mother's room, in a scene that his 'aniki' specifically set up for that purpose, sheryl is about as far from her as alto could possibly get, personality-wise.
  14. the message content will likely be touched on in the recap at the start of next episode. I am quite certain it mentioned nothing about mishima being the leader of the coup and asassination. if it had, I really dont think alto and luca neither of whom are likely to have any idea of mishama's plot) would have stayed behind - at least they would not have joined NUNS. matter of fact, I am of the opinion that if the message had spelled everything out, alto would likely have taken sheryl with him aboard the quarter, even if she was kicking and screaming in protest.
  15. overpopulation isnt the problem... to take it to an extreme, the entire population of earth can fit into an area the size of texas, and every individual would still have more than 100m^2 of area to live in - that isnt counting multi-story structures, which can easily multiply the livable area (arcologies anyone?). the problem is economics and politics. actually it's mostly politics and how most of the rest of the world does things. too many people here in the western world seem to believe that the worlds problems are our fault, and while they are to some extent correct in that belief, the real problem is in that most of the underdeveloped world operates very much on a dog-eat-dog, guy most willing to kill his competition wins/leads mentality. the vast majority of the human species just doesn't share the same core philosophical beliefs as the 'developed' world (and yes, even china is in that majority). thing is there is really no simple solution to the problem short of an alien species coming along and deciding to BDZ those parts of the world because they dont meet certain criteria - there was a novel by ben bova iirc where aliens folded the sun out of our solar system because the nations of earth decided to retreat from space, leaving only those who were stationed on earth's first lunar colony in a position to survive.
  16. hmmm... considering this is a fandub, are you going to be true to the actual translation, or allow your VA's to adlib just a little to make it more natural? for instance, using a little slang that might be expected of a crew on an actual carrier...
  17. not that i am complaining (as I can get by with the desync given my hardware limitations atm), but even with an ati radeon 2400hd AGP card I have issues with h264. granted my system is otherwise quite old - athlon xp 2100 with 2 gigs of pc2700 ram, 5 HDDs, windows XP MCE. hopefully I will be rebuilding it to a quad core phenom with a dual boot ubuntu/xp setup by xmas, and then I should no longer have problems ^^.
  18. well, somebody was having it - and if the writers chose those particular scenes to flashback on for the viewers sake I fail to understand why they related it to alto's reaction. like i said earlier... if they wanted to use something more dramatic in such a flashback, they could have used footage with ranka that alto would have been party to and better demonstrate his inner conflict - the kiss in ep 10 for example... but then they would've had to show the kiss with sheryl too. hmmm... i wonder which kiss he enjoyed more at the time. sheryl's ambush or ranka's 'by the script'.
  19. hmmm I find this series strange sometimes with how it treats flashbacks. when ozma and alto had the duel in 22, and mentioned ranka's choosing her path, alto initially flashed back to the scene of ranka looking back at frontier from her seat in brera's -27. there is no way he should have been able to do that, as he could not have seen her do so. if anything, he should have flashed back to her standing in the way of his shooting ai-kun, then standing in the hand of the -27 as it took off. this kind of weird (impossible) flashback has occurred before in the series as well. I suppose it would have been too definitive if alto had flashed to those times when he was carrying sheryl in his arms while flying the ex-gear in response to ozma's question of 'why do you have your wings?'
  20. I have remembered yet another reason why alto+sheryl=ftw!... remember back in ep18 when sheryl collapsed in the street and alto's 'aniki' found her and spirited her back to the saotome mansion? ai oboeteimasuka was the background song for that scene. it was the first time I really noticed that - while sheryl already knew she loved him - alto was finally beginning to realize his own feelings for her . I know it's kind of irrational to think the outcome of the triangle was decided by background music, the significance of that theme is clear - it indicates the beginning of something... anyway, sorry for reviving a near dead thread ^^.
  21. lol... for me, a PS3 macross game would be the principal reason to get one of those beautiful black boxes - so far not even their blu-ray abilities have been able to sway me, but such a game just might. I fully intend to get a PSP just for ace frontier lol.
  22. water is at its' most corrosive under most conditions when it has dissolved ionic compounds in it, such as salt. it is the electrical conductivity that the ions impart to the water that make it corrosive. pure distilled water is actually an electrical insulator IIRC
  23. water is indeed corrosive to many materials, but not all, and it wouldnt be water for very long once once it enters the engine. the energy input would almost instantly break the chemical bonds that make it water, converting it to a monatomic hydrogen/oxygen plasma, which is then easily manipulated.
  24. well, to be honest, no cryogenic propellant is really suitable for something like this - too much special handling and precautions are necessary for use in an operational system (especially considering that most ordnance and fuel handlers are not likely to be trained in dealing with things like that). same goes for the common ion drive propellants like mercury (most are way too toxic for large scale usage). I would be willing to put money down that the propellant used is good old water, while the fusion turbine itself runs an aneutronic cycle like hydrogen-boron - that way the whole system is as clean as can be from an environmental standpoint, and all the fuels and propellants are easily sourced.
  25. it isnt the mass of the tank that is the problem - it's the volume. there is simply no way for a valk to carry more than a few hundred pounds of H2 for propellant use without taking on the appearance of a manatee, and even if it did, that propellant would not last at all long at max thrust levels (forget about carrying several thousand pounds.
