  1. The fact that its actually IN the mainstream charts for weeks is in itself amazing. I know Im repeating myself here but this isnt a mainstream property. Its very niche. The fact that they got posters on the trains on the JR Yamanote Line continuously blows my mind. But you just cant compare it to something like Gantz, for example, which housewives and tweenyboppers alike rush to see. Between the movie, the OST and merch sales, there is no way the film has been a flop. I saw it a 5th time on Saturday and the cinema was still half full despite the current situation here in Japan. Heck, we had an earthquake in the middle of the movie and no-one left!

So anyways, just my 2-yen, but these sort of box office comparisons are rather pointless imo.

I concur, I even saw a few trains(not sure if they are the same ones) with their exterior entirely covered with Frontier adverts. Even in Osaka and Kyoto I saw posters and banners in most of the shopping complexes and major train stations.

  2. Have to watch waaaay more Gundam before I can comment on what you guys are writing on UC vs. other Gundam series.

So far I gotta say that I'm loving Stardust Memory. Nice story with low levels of teenage angst. And the animation and art is top notch. I'm particularly enjoying how all the mechanical designs look so well put together.

Just finished the series, I just love it for the fact that the protagonist isn't a high school boy. Also the Kawamori influences although I'm constantly perplexed how paper-like(in terms of structural integrity and combustible) the ships of the line were.

  3. The specifications don't seem to mention the YF-29's twin dorsal mounted beam guns, unless they are the ones refered to in the translation as "Fold-wave Projector System".

    Graham

The fold system refers to the outboard nacelles(the fast packs) I reckon. It contains missiles and a telescoping rod with unfolding crystals at the end.

Also if my memory serves me well, the dorsal beam guns do swivel in fighter mode in the movie.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong though, you researchin' folks.

  4. 1. 1/60 VF-22S in all liveries.

    2. 1/60 VF-0A with Ghost.

    3. 1/60 SV-51 CF.

    4. 1/100 VF100 VF-25S (I know, I know...it's a 3D puzzle but it's pretty awesome to have as a desktop toy. When you don't transform it that is.)

    5. 1/72 VF-11B (Not gotten around to getting the 1/60 yet)

  5. LUCKY YOU! I miss Japanese beer too. The basic Kirin and Asahi don't do it for me. :(

Yebisu FTW! Luckily we import it here in Melbourne.

On topic: Gonna try and catch it next weekend, sounds delicious and you guys make way better reviewers than any other as we've got similar taste on mecha and mayhem.

  6. Does Katanagatari get better after episode 1? It may be the most wordy anime I've ever seen; I felt like I was reading a book.

I thoroughly enjoyed the series, a big thanks to the folks here who recommended it. It gets better and the dialogue can be pretty fun at times. It is more of an introspective period fantasy drama than a hot blooded action samurai adventure.

  7. IMHO, while it may be the case for some people, colours may be very important to others: remember how many times we’ve read in this very forum about people that aren’t very fond of the VF-19FIRE due to its colours –no matter how good the design of the new toys is- and will be waiting for other schemes.

Guilty as charged, waiting earnestly for a low-vis...anything that's not a VF-1 really. With squadron markings.

I'll buy a boombox laden bright red M1 Abhrams Tank that shoots speaker pods, however.

  8. Picked up the standard edition 1/100 as both the Sheryl and Ranka designs were too busy. Didn't really like the design till I watched the movie. Looks much better in motion!

    As for the fast packs:

At the last battle, the Durandal had two wingtip packs that could detach and fire missiles independently. Correct me if I'm wrong though but that was what it looked like, and was really awesome.

  9. Watched it on the 1st at Ikebukuro, pretty packed theater and there was a huge line to purchase the merchandise. Loved it immensely more than the series and yeah people were tearing up towards the end. Overall a pretty wonderful show despite not understanding most of the dialog, though my other half had no clue whatsoever and was rather pleasantly surprised at the songs.

Picked up a 1/100 YF-29 model and Tenjin's Second Sortie from Animate right after!

This probably have been mentioned before...but is that who i think it is in that VF-19 cameo? B)) I shouted out in glee when I saw that scene.

  10. Got my Max and Milia as well, with no space to display them at the moment  . Funny thing was, I purchased them via HLJ's sale and got them mailed to Oz. Now that I'm in Tokyo I found them going for 9k yen at Yellow Submarine in Akihabara.
