  1. It still doesn't make any sense from any sort of realistic marketing standpoint. No offense to Crisp, but his points are a bit muddy.

How can you check eBay to get pricing info on a toy you haven't released?

What on Earth could the size of the box have to do with anything? If anything, we've only complained about Yamato's overly large boxes.

And by your own point at the end, you're really implying more that the middle agents (those selling to the US market are the ones who mark it up, not Yamato itself, as they cannot make the profit of selling overseas since they can't ship there.

And since there are more than a few competing vendors selling these import toys in this market, if one of them overprices then the others will take the sale. Competition. Market. Capitalism.

    It's all very simple.

But those of you who really want to believe Yamato checks a foreign language website in areas they cannot legally export to to determine prices, feel free to go ahead and do it.

Just don't impose your beliefs on the rest of us. Continue being paranoid and odd on your own, please. ;)

I'm sorry I imposed my opinion that I feel that "Crisp makes sense."

It is only polite that I should keep my opinions to myself, and you should be allowed to post yours.

it's just as easy for me to say, "I disagree with you because YOUR points are silly and idiotic... you can think naive thoughts, but do it alone... You are out of line posting your opinions here."

but in order to not be hypocritical, I would have to refrain from posting altogether, I couldn't even agree with anyone because (as you may have noticed) here I have posted that I agree with Crisp and Haterist... and you, who I have not adressed, tell me that I am somehow wrong for agreeing with anyone, because they disagree with you.

can you not see how THAT is imposing your opinion on others?

I won't sink to your level, you can post what you want. as I said earlier, we'll see if you get the $200 price tag most vocal MWers seem willing to pay. (just please don't pretend that I am somehow oppressing you, whereas you are innocent of the same offense)

  2. it doesn't mean they have to listen now does it?  its their choice to listen or to ignore.

    Haterist,

I've been trying to ignore you (for the most part) since our last go-round. But seriously, you're nearly impossible to ignore because you plaster posts all over these boards. That wouldn't be a problem if your behavior weren't so erratic and by turns so damn bizarre.

(paraphrase the rest of the post) Haterist is stoopid! here's some personal attacks against him... etc....etc....

off topic. i don't know which forum you can legitimately start a thread about how bad/crazy another member here is as a person, but I'm pretty sure it isn't the toy forum.

P.S. I realize that I am also off topic, but I tried to keep it short (and sweet, to boot!)

  3. Hi guys,

I am working for a Toy-Company in Germany acting World-Wide, also US.

I thought I could get more value to this discussion! B))

Off course Yamato (and other Toy manufacturers) are not making their price by questioning the net, they are calculating production-, material- and developing costs (and lot others) into the price. Then they add their expected (standard) margine per product theme (eg. 50% on VF's or 75% Statutes).

Nevertheless they are also watching forums like these (and others) to get an idea what the max. price could be (talking about price structures on the market/also dependend on the size of the box!). We are doing this too - we even check e-bay constantly! Other toy companies are doing the same - promised!

So both parties are somehow right! The basic price (as sold in Japan) will always be on normal level, but all other prices (wholesellers, toy-shops outside Japan) will get the recommended retail price plus the value they can add out of surveys or the net itself.

I would also recommend not to post any prices so Yamato/Wholesellers do not have the advantage to know "how far they can go"!

that makes perfect sense... I think the argument against it is "I want to spend as much money as possible, because it's MY money and I don't want it to be mine anymore!"

  4. I agree with Haterist here... everybody keep saying that you'll pay $200 for it and see how much it costs you.

Remember how Hayao Kakizaki was saying that a Q-rau cost HIM $80 because that was what peeps in his area were willing to pay? Also, at the local anime dist. I got to talking with the owner, he says "Yamato's toys don't cost nearly as much overseas, but they put the high price on the box. It's a meaningless price to everyone except Americans, who pay the exact dollar equivalent"

So to all y'all who say "we aren't the target audience, Yamato doesn't set its prices for us" well, your half right, There's the real price (that has NOTHING to do with us) and there is the price that is printed on the box (which has always been the same amount as people said they were willing to pay here, on this board)

maybe some of you remember a while back, when there were two links to the same Yammie on HLJ, there were two pages that were the same except for two differences: 1. one page was in Japanese. 2. the other page had a higher price listed on it, before shipping.

so yeah, we aren't their target audience, and they don't pay much attention to us. but we do buy a lot of valks, and apparently we buy them at the highest price of anyone in the world.

  5. I noticed that beneath my avatar there is the title: Heatshield Scrubber... what does this mean? Is it some sort of insult? Can I change it? if so, how?

Also, there is a little bow/dot/thing below it.... what is this? a check mark? a warning? i doubt i could be something good, not for ME!

anyways, I hope somebody who knows answers my query, not sure if this is the right place to post, but in the FAQ section there is only RULES RULES RULES!!!

I searched but aparently I am the only one who doesn't know... or the search function here sucks.

  7. It's not BAD, but it isn't worth $80, either.. or $60 for that matter.

That's the real crux of the matter, they are not worth the asking price. If they were say 20 to 30 dollar toys, maaaaaybe even it wouldn't be so bad.

I have to agree... it's not blind hatred of the MPC that earns it the negative comments... it's the toy vs. it's price.... I mean, remove price from the equation, and the MPC is better than a Banpresto, BUT, take into account that the MPC originally cost $80 (which I paid) and now they cost more on ebay (for some reason) and the Banprestos go for $14... and suddenly, the Banpresto's problems are much less evident, much more forgivable... and the Banpresto becomes a better toy.

When someone asks about the MPC, and I give "horrible" biased advise against it. It's really just that I feel like I got ripped off when I bought my MPC. I've got no one to blame but myself, and I just want to try to help some innocent MWer to avoid my mistake... it's not hate, it's concern for the wellbeing of others.

but do we REALLY need a war about the strengths and weaknesses of the 1:60 vs. the MPC? I mean, If someone asks if they should get a MPC and someone else answers by saying that they go for $120 to $145 online and they're not worth THAT much. Do we NEED to defend the MPC by attacking the 1:60? can't we just say that IF your planning on spending $145 on a Macross toy, it should be a 1:48.

  8. Hello,

Thank u Graham and Melissa....U guys are tops. Very kind of u to lead me to the info that I was seeking. I do have one more question about this model. Will this be the definitive version and if so could someone recommend putting some metal into this toy. I bought 25 of the original VF-11b toys for my collection. I was very disappointed to find out that they were not going to make fastpacks for them. Furthermore the fact that they made a design upgrade (Stronger Hips) pissed me off to. I hope that they really consider putting out a high quality toy and not a piece of crap. It is really insulting to the fans that invest the big bucks. If you guys have any influence please tell Yamato to make these toys nice and add some metal. Make the quality one that die hard collectors can be proud of.

    Thanks Again Guys.

    Mac11

sorry man, but it seems that metal is the devil's material according to macrossworlders.

  9. to quote TLC:

(and now it's time for a breakdown!)"nevah gonna get it, nevah gonna get it..... nevah gonna get it, nevah gonna get it..... nevah gonna get it, nevah gonna get it... nevah gonna get it (whoah whoah whoah whoah!)......"

    that's En Vogue! not TLC!

  10. hey guys- this character got me thinking??....would anybody like to see a non-tranformable vf-1 that was in battroid that was perfect in everyway?detail scale ect? I just think that has always been missing from the available line of macross, I just always wanted a toy with the hasegawa look(filled in sides, ect) I figure it would sell and it would open up a new market for yamato-affordible well detailed interchangable vf-1,destroids,enemy mech ect with out the major r&d costs of the other scales(1/60-1/48-1/72)any way didn't want to open another thread so......... :)

I'm sure a Yammie 1:48 VF-1 non-transformable battaliod mode toy would cost as much as the existing 1:48. If the Q-rau has taught me anything, it's taught me that Yamato charges by size... 12" tall... $120! regardless of production costs.

As to the scale of "wedding Miriya" being the ruin of my previous post... there is NO doubt that the other two figures are 1:60, they are the reason I want to buy the set. Wedding Miriya, be she 1:60 or 1:15 is just an extra bauble.

Also, I don't see how the conflict between male and female Zentradi in DYRL enters into the scale equation. Max fought Miriya... It was love at first sight... Next time we see 'em, Max is friggin' huge! I've never heard mention of a lost scene where Max shrank back down and brought Miriya with him... So, I'm guessin' that wedding Miriya there is wearing a 1:60 scale wedding dress.
