  1. これはニュータイプ力じゃない!ニュータイプじゃない!歌のちからだ hmm... did Ramba Ral really say that? or did you make that up, I don't remember that at all.
  2. you know what they should make instead? Yotouden
  3. that's what I said, it's a melting pot unlike canada's "tapestry" we called in grade school. There's this idea, that you have to become american and intergrate into their society accepting American cultural norms in place of your own. But I think that it's not as bad as it used to be, there's more recognition of different cultures now even in Canada then there was even 15 years ago, people are more educated in both countries. But this is really off topic.
  4. Nope I was reffering to the movie, maybe it was because I was more uptight about "morality" in movies when I was in Jr. High... but I loathed Ninja Scroll, thought it was totally disgusting and senseless. Out of the anime that would commonly air on TV back when I first got space, Wings of Honneimase, Macross Plus, Gal Force, Galaxy Express 1 and 2, Patlabour 1 and 2, Dominion Tank Police (and some other one I forget), at least two of these would air every week for several months when I was in Jr High. And the only time I wasn't watching was when it turned out to be Ninja Scroll and/or Dominion Tank Police.
  5. Okay let me play devil's advocate and take Exo's side. While I still maintain my belief that 7 is a Japanese fleet, 11 a english fleet, and Frontier a cosmopolitan fleet... I havn't made any decision on the SDF-1... and if I were to base in on DYRL, I would probably say it was officially english with a high Japanese population (Minmay being from Japan although ethnically Chinese, Hikaru, Misa etc)... I think the most solid arguement in DYRL isn't Misa's translating because the aesthetic arguement can be made, isn't the Hikaru fighter launch sequence because you can make the arguement of English being used as a standard by Air Traffic controllers. The strongest arguement for DYRL for your side is, the transformation announecement which was in English. "Attention, Attention, our ship is to make a transformation in 3 minutes, please go to the nearest shelter as soon as possible". Hikaru is deffinitly Japanese as is Misa, and Minmay was born in Japan too... so those three probably would be speaking in Japanese at least in private conversations with just them... (just like Minmay and Kaifun probably either spoke Japanese or Chinese with each other). But... maybe, the SDF-1/Ataria Island was officially English, if we use DYRL as a guide... or maybe it DYRL was in English cause it was made by an English director ^^; who knows.
  6. lol how so... theres enough in there already (the mouth of truth scene, the short haircut, the main character's proffesion, Ishtar/Audery going awol from their duties, being shown a world she never knew) that is plainly directly lifted from Roman Holiday, it's not that crazy to draw a couple futher comparisons with how the two characters behave in the end. As you just said, most popular entertainment is derivative.
  7. Now that, is a Cannon Movie! Wait, there are people at Hollywood who are behind the times and slow on the uptake? I never knew.
  8. well it's mostly the one episode yes... but in a larger sense it's kinda the whole Ishtar side the story, just reading the plot and you can see a lot of parallels to Ishtar, and the whole fact that Hibiki is an irresponsible reporter just like Joe. That's not to say that Macross II is totally dependent on Roman holiday, it does introduce it's own themes like censorship of media, and the ever present war is not fun messege (which really hits home cause you get the sense that in Macross II the only alien race that humanity ever fought before the Marduk was the Zentraedi and they've had 80 years worth of effortless victories everytime a new Zentraedi fleet shows up, so war did become entertainment for those at home). Macross II does stand on it's own because of everything that goes on with Silvie's end of the story, and the general war effort. But there's always I think a touch of it in Hibiki and Ishtar... It gets a little more general though, being that they both remain "fish out of water" stories, where a guy shows a girl a side of life she didn't know, and that in the end the fish realizes that she has to go back to her pond.
  9. Like I said, I want Jedi as a starting class... The Tales of the Jedi comics and Kotor games make up the coolest period of time in Star Wars I think. I wanna go around slashing at things with my light saber and doing crazy things with the force. And yes even if they went the Epic Archetype route different specializations would be good (if not different classes). But while I'm sure most of the casual gamers, the ones who will get into this because OMG It's Star Wars! want Jedi, I'm not sure most of the hard core gamers want them to be so accesiable, and if there was any kind of limitation the epic class-system from CoH would be one I could see being used, because then it dosn't punish anyone rather it makes it a reward.
  10. Isn't there a live action Afro Samurai in the works? That's the rumor I heard. I think there are a few exceptions, to that rule... but in general yes... the character should be Japanese and the actor should too (unless you're Tom Cruise lol) I agree, hated it the first time I layed eyes on it. I discovered late night anime on Teletoon... they showed the first three volumes of Macross Plus... but then next week they showed Ninja Scroll. I didn't understand the 4 episode wasn't out yet.... all I knew was Ninja Scroll was disgusting.
  11. Well what about the Macross F "you are my wings" conversation? inb4 purely symbolic... Ranka even psychic slaps Sheryl. I don't think there's any other way to explain that but a meeting of the minds (through song energy?)
  12. Nah, I was just confused... I thought Elma was singing along to a Zolan band singing the songs but it was just karaoke... been a long time since I watched it.
  13. I've actually seen that odly enough done in an english dub of an anime. My "beloved" Sakura Wars series, while the original OVA and movie (and to some extent even the original games) actually used different languages when it was warranted, the Paris set episodes just put in a spattering of French greetings and honorifics. But when the OVA Ecole De Paris OVA was dubbed into English they dubbed the entire first scene in French and the rest of it in English.
  14. Would a good solution to the "there's too many Jedi" "but we wanna be JEDI!" camp to make the force user classes akin to City of Heroes Epic Archetypes? (ie characters you unlock by getting your first character to max level or too the endgame) I don't advocate going this way, for Old Repbublic, Jedi are a must... but theoretically if they were gonna but some kinda contstraint on it, would that be a good one?
  15. anything wrong with it aside from short smoke-stacks?
  16. yeah makes a little more sense for a Princess wanting to go incognito then for a priestess with a tracking bracelet.
  17. And Zolan. Agreed... my point was Exo sorta came off that English is what was used all the time, DYRL was filmed in English (and Zentran obviously lol) etc. I don't see that has to be the case and at the colony level there could be different official languages, then at the steller or galactic levels (I guess if there is such a thing). Anyway I still think the civillians of 7 were mostly Japanese speaking per my prior reasoning of the actual Anglo-phone fleet needing to have their own Fire Bomber.
  18. Sorta what I was going for was more, English isn't the last Earth language out there... but I still have to maintain that just based on English Fire, and the Zolan versions of Fire Bomber it dosn't make sense for Fire Bomber's music to originally bein English... so even if Macross 7 had lots of English speakers, and even if the official language of the dipolomats and military is English. Just because another band needed to translate their songs and cover them in English it seems to me that Fire Bomber is a Japanese speaking group.
  19. hmm... I thought I heard that somewhere... well whatever. It maybe could have used a couple more episodes to pace it out better imho.
  20. really? I thought it was 8 or 12 or somethin like that... I know the budget got cut. I thought the series length did too... Oihan come back we need you.
  21. My friend mentioned a one point they copy pasta'd an adobe license agreement into a report in Macross F... I'll ask her if she remembers where so we can grab a screen grab of that o so purposfully used English.
  22. Okay you had me interested at Lovecraft.
  23. Well that could also be largely due to the fact that the story was cut as well. In the end Hepburn and Greg's characters still loved each other but realized they were from seperate worlds, and they cherished the time between them as something to remember. Had Macross Zero not been shortned or had it's budget cut they might have been able to achieve that a bit more naturally, instead of having her return to her world after she sees Hibiki and Silvie snuggling. Really Silvie and Lord Feff coud have just been an extension of that "different world", like must be with like... mentality, that constricted Hepburn's character. Really Silvie's change was kinda sudden too.. no one really evolved naturally. Feff wanted Ishtar from the start. Hibiki goes from wanting a scoop, to wanting Ishtar (maybe?) to wanting Silvie... Silvie has her quasi-boyfriend, then jumps to Hibiki.
  24. Oh Exo, did you ever consider I was just having fun with this topic? that's why I was playful and short until you insulted my grasp on logic. But I also had fun posting a list of different reasons why my arguement is logical. If you don't enjoy reading it then don't. But I'll make it easy and summarize a few hard hitters for a multi-lingual galaxy at the bottom. Well no being Canadian I'm not that far removed... and America is multicultural, but a melting pot... unlike canada's tapestry (to use the tired metaphor) perhaps I should be more blunt, a product of the American education system which does not instill a second language as a neccisity unlike many countries, often has a hard time imagining a society where everyone is at least bilingual to some extent. Obviously there are tons of bi, tri and multilingual Americans. I was making a generalization and for that I'm sorry. And yes I don't think they give much thought to language either. again that's why I've got a simply fits what we know... http://macross.anime.net/wiki/Fire_Bomber_American Macross 11 has a band called Fire Bomber American, they are an english speaking fleet and the band covers Fire Bomber's music and feels the need to call it "English Fire" why do so if Fire Bomber was already English? So what else could Fire Bomber be? Japanese? Is it not then logical to assume that the Macross 7 fleet speaks Japanese? If we still have more then one human language left isn't it logical to assume that in a big and diverse place like Frontier which is already multicultural in that it has a special place meant for Zentraedi, has these multiple languages. Even if it is a more American type multicutural set up? If Sheryl used French... isn't it logical to assume that language still exists too?
  25. That's nice, ask him when he has time if he actually has any counters for my arguements... that's if he dosn't think I'm just saying whatever makes me happy and being illogical. If we're going get down to "I agree with so and so" let's make it really dramatic. Marvel Comics style! And please forgive the typos. My spellcheck isn't working and I've been up all night. Now I have to get to class, so the floor is all yours Exo; have fun.
