  1. Apparently the RAF flew a Tornado GR4 strike mission over Afghanistan recently with a British pilot in front and a German - Luftwaffe - navigator in back. You can probably supply the in-cockpit banter...
  2. First Matt Smith episode finished about, uh, 15 minutes ago over here. You can stop worrying now.
  3. They seem to have left that particular design requirement out of every account of R.J. Mitchell I've ever read...
  4. You've had it confirmed, but yes, you did see the flag. Theres probably been enough hints now to suggest the Daleks are up to something over here... (possibly creating the ultimate terror, the Dalek Mk.III "Chav"... )
  5. Can't gain any electronic intelligence info from its emissions if its burning wreckage now, can we? IIRC, one of the major differences between the B1-B and the "Black Jack" is that the Russian bomber is a fair bit larger.
  6. We can has new trailer, spoilers: http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/cult/s7/doctor...ve-trailer.html
  7. I think the kid is going to be all right: http://blogtorwho.blogspot.com/2010/03/ele...aunch-clip.html (short, spoiler-ish clip right at end of interview)
  8. Like the TV series, its a little uneven and I can't recall if it has the closure you want but it features what is quite possibly not just the finest ever Patlabor episode, or one of the finest pieces of anime ever, but one of the finest pieces of comic writing ever. Its the episode where Goto and Nagumo get stuck in a hotel for a night. Thats as much as I'm prepared to give away.
  9. "Ours is the toner that will pierce the heavens!"
  10. Just finished it this evening. Why do I feel a sudden urge to go and buy the biggest power drill I can find?
  11. I think they had a kind of execution chamber which filled with hot caramel (or similar) and somehow the Kandy man got melted by the contents of that. Oddly enough, I always found that thing a fairly scary monster - possibly because Bertie Bassett is such a well known UK character, and the idea of a homicidal Bertie just resonates with us a bit more...
  12. I think I'm going to offer this piece of advice - read up on any of the titles mentioned in this thread before viewing with your son. Lest you get the "eyeballs going really big" sound.
  13. Its going to be a bit of a struggle, obviously, but then thats been the burden for every new Doctor; its just that the show is so much of a higher profile now. Its a bit early to say, but going by what I've seen of him so far and how he comes across in the media, I also think hes going to do well...
  14. Okay; just to make clear it was specifically the Cadburys ones I was thinking of, rather than "Brand X sugar coated small chocolate eggs". They used to be an Easter only thing here, too, but now Easter tends to start just before Christmas...! Its been a while since I had some, might have to buy a packet to see if they've started putting in false ingredients here too...
  15. Any of the modern Gundams - SEED, Destiny, 00. Nadia of the Mysterious Seas (aka Secret of Blue Water) is a good old fashioned adventure series with enough action I should think to keep him happy (well, asides from the infamous "island" episodes). Full Metal Alchemist can be a little gory in places, and it takes a few episodes to get going, but any series that can get your mother interested just by half-watching it in the background has got to be good... I'd love to recommend Patlabor on TV - quiet and thoughtful is he by any chance? Some of the other stuff I'm thinking about, like Full Metal Panic TV can be a touch saucy in places, I'm not sure how suitable you'd find that kind of thing.
  16. Matt Smith has been giving a few interviews lately, this one suggests that yes, they might just have found a good 'un to play the Doctor: http://www.guardian.co.uk/tv-and-radio/201...r-who-interview "This is my cat Timmy who's no longer with us," he says, giving a guided tour of his trailer walls. "My mate Timmy. I can't tell you, man, I luuuuurved that cat. He got to 18. He had a really good innings, that's why I was so attached to him. He was called the godfather of the street because he was a bigggggg cat. I'm totally going to have a Mini Egg, if that's all right." He digs into my packet and munches away. "Ah, it's like heaven in your mouth." [1] [1] Do you have Mini Eggs in the US? They're little chocolate eggs coated in a hard sugar shell. They are, indeed, heaven in the mouth.
  17. Gurren Lagann. Mecha show. Turned up to ELEVEN. Spoiler, quite a big one:
  18. And yet the PAK-FAs shadow looks... bigger. Clearly the Russians have sided with... the Shadows! Someone call John Sheridan!
  19. What makes that Batman Begins packaging even funnier for a British person is the fact that "Jack Straw" is currently our State Secretary for Justice and Lord High Chancellor. Which sort of sounds like a superhero title in the first place!
  20. Presumably pilots of the T-50 are already thinking in Russian.
  21. Xabungle. Anyone who has suffered the first 20-odd episodes of ZZ Gundam and was left with the impression that Tomino can't do humour should really check this out. Its an almost perfect de-construction of the entire mecha genre, made back when there almost wasn't anything to de-construct!
  22. Heres an odd question - looking at pictures of Russian aircraft with their wheels down, it seems that many of them have green inner rims. The Indian Navy variant of the MiG-29 has them as well. I was just curious if there was a particular reason or is it "just one of those things"...
  23. Hmm... ever seen the aborted attempt to use SD Gundam for Western markets...?
  24. Good lord, thats like something out of Yukikaze!
