1. I realllllly don't want to see a prequel, considering how many prequels we've seen that badly mangle things by retconning all kinds of dumb poo in. (Hi Star Wars, how've you been?) I don't trust AIC not to screw things up royally. I was really, really against Bubblegum Crisis 2040 at first, but I have to admit it was an okay show. The thing is it just was quite different than the original Bubblegum Crisis and not as good. Still kind of enjoyable, despite the weird organic monster boomers and totally uninspired character designs. I'd kind of prefer a new Megazone 23 that doesn't have to directly connect with the old one. That way there would be no chance of them trying to shoe-in retarded new things into the old stories and mess them up. Failing that, I'm good with just telling the story of another Megazone ship. Maybe the New York one mentioned in the mz23 B-Club Special. But let's not do the Diezalg thing over again. Either new aliens, or just internal human threats would be cool. If you have to do the whole conspiracy to hide that we're on a spaceship thing again, do it quickly and get it over soon, IMO. We've already seen that story.
2. I like Arcadia of My Youth okay, but I absolutely love Galaxy Express 999. I found it wayyyy more moving than Arcadia. The first G999 movie specifically. I also really, really like Interstella 5555, but I also love Daft Punk, so that helps. I enjoyed the Legend of the Galactic Heroes movies a lot, but I found the TV show slow, dull, and visually uninteresting and flat. I don't understand how you can go from something so cool, sweeping, and huge feeling to something so small and uninspiring. Sad. Maybe I'd be into it if I never saw the movies. As it is, I couldn't get past episode 6.
3. I'm not going to quote your jazillion line thing, but basically I think aliens have no place in Gundam. Gundam is about how there are "good" people and "bad" people and any group is composed of both. But it's about people. Aliens would take Gundam away from that, just like a Gundam where they were fighting an army of sentient robots would take it away. I don't think it's appropriate. Gundam is definitely about war, and I agree the Federation/Colonies thing is pretty played out. A new concept would be nice. But the AU stories with the exception of G Gundam insist on being tepid retellings of the original earth/colonies war. Because, hell, it worked the first time, why not?! They could have a war over just about anything else and still have it be about people fighting people and I would be fine with it. I like most of the UC stuff (okay, not most, but a lot, I still think 0083 is badly written crap, ZZ is well-animated but braindead, Victory is horrible et cetera), but G Gundam is really the only AU worthwhile in my opinion, because it's the only Gundam that is brave enough to do something -different-. Even Turn A's moon/Earth thing is pretty similar to the colonies/Earth thing, though Turn A is pretty wildly different. Mayyyyybe I can give Turn A credit for being different as well, but Wing, X, SEED, they're all hamfisted rehashes of the damn One Year War. Write a new story for Christ's sake, but UFOs are not necessary.
4. There's already true live action tentacle rape. La Blue Girl live action anyone?
5. Macron 1 badly combined Goshogun and Srungle, kind of like Robotech, but worse, since they would try to cut from footage of one Goshogun character to one Srungle character and back and pretend they were having a conversation. Oh so bad. Also Goshogun is pretty entertaining, and Srungle is like getting your eyes eaten by parasitic worms. I have I think 5 or 6 episodes of Ma-ma-ma-ma-macron 1 on VHS.
6. They have no rights to Orguss at all. Orguss was not a Tatsunoko production, it was a Tokyo Movie Shinsha production. In the late 80's early 90's US Renditions the license for Orguss and released about half of the TV series dubbed in English on VHS. Of course, US Renditions went out of business and never finished the job.
7. Until the RRG had their falling out with HG, they were the ones dictating what was "official" and what wasn't on Robotech.com, so a lot of RRG bullshit got pencilled in on RT.com in the early days. Some of it has been written out by Yune or Yun or Bateman or whoever since then, but some of their poo remains. Thats from their "liner" notes about each techinical file. 389905 Yeah, what the hell is that? So they ignore the RPG and then make up their own, equally wrong version? They even admit the katakana indicates FIELD. It's the shrew/sher part that is iffy. FIELD is not even in question. Sylphid has no basis in the Japanese text.
8. Big deal, the Robotech narrator is frequently wrong. Tomahawk squadrons, anyone? I don't believe for one second there is enough space in that tight little design for anything to telescope out, especially since the parts you want to telescope should be jet intakes filled with uh, air. Furthermore, there is ZERO evidence in either the Southern Cross TV show, or the source material in TIA SC or anything else that remotely suggests it transforms. It is a fabrication of the RRG, just like the BS names for the Bioroids, and imaginary ships like the "Tou Salaam" and the name "JOTUN". It's fanfic crap. As for the VTOL being a redesigned Sherfield, I don't buy it. The nose is the wrong shape, the "nacelles" or whatever are in the wrong shape in the wrong place, the wings are really different. The only real similiarity is the face that it has two uh, "nacelles" next to the cockpit like that. I think the Sentinels VTOl is just as likely a ripoff of the Bronco II from Orguss or a combination of both. The Sherfield's design is not particularly unique, but the one thing that IS distinctive, the vertical stabilizers in the middle of the wings, is not in the VTOL design. I think you're reading too much into it to support the insane pet theories of the Peters. I'm not a translator by trade, but I have taken college Japanese and I can read katakana just fine, thanks. Fi-ru-do is FIELD. FIDE would fai-do. Feel free to run it by Matt Alt, or I will next time I see him online, since he IS a professional translator, but it does not take a deep understanding of Japanese to know that Sylphide is a bogus reading of shi-ru-fi-ru-do. You prove the point nicely when you bring up the Logan, Monocle, and Falcon. Logan, Monocle, Falcon, and Sherfield. They're not myths. The naming scheme is not absolute. Deal with it, Pete and friends. [Edited to replace VTOL with Sherfield when I said VTOL being a redesigned VTOL, because I'm an idiot.]
9. Re-GZ and G-Fighter are MSIA, I think that green blob is a GM Sniper MISA, the Zeta Plus is a FIX (I've sold it since then), the regular Zeta is the Kahen Senshi, and the RX-78 is the Arch Enemy Gundam (which is really great).
10. I think you're getting the wrong impression from that character guide sheet that dude posted. Those are mostly characters from the Prelude to the Shadow Chronicles trainwreck of a comic book. Most of them will not be in the actual movie. Hell, Edwards is -dead-.
11. 389564 Yeah, Rob is not my problem. My problem is Peter and Pieter, who are both totally full of wrong information that they continually perpetuate. And they're rude and arrogant about it. I don't care if they want to make it follow a mythological naming scheme it does not fit, it is patently -wrong-. There's also no way in hell it transforms, even if the Robotech narrator accidently called it a Veritech once. I still think Sherfield is the most logical interpretation of shirufirudo, but Sylphide is just completely out of the question.
12. Even sped up Firefox is hyper slow compared to Opera. Also Firefox crashes on me a lot, and Opera never does. Maybe it's because my computer is old, but too bad. Firefox should not be hogging resources. It's not as bad as IE, but it's nowhere near as good as Opera. There. Browser snobbery finished.
13. Okay, couple of things. First of all, there are DEFINITELY way more Megazone ships out there. The Megazone backstory in the Megazone 23 B-Club Special makes this very clear. Second, it's NOT Part III, it's Megazone 23 III (which is read as the third), which is a two OAV sequel series. And like many 90's revivals of 80's anime, veers off course strangely. It's like Macross II, Orguss 02, and the 90's Babel II OAV. It's not a bad story, it just uh, doesn't connect properly with the series it's meant to be a sequel with. The problems with III are mostly that it seems like a different OAV that had Megazone grafted on it, and the budget problems meant shitty animation in spots. You can definitely tell whenever it was Itano animating it though. That Hargun/EX-Garland fight with the knives is hot, as isthe Original Garland fight at the end. Itano is awesome. I like the cyberpunk thing, and the new mecha designs are cool. Weird as hell that it has shojo character designs though. I'm still kind of confused by that.
14. Yeah, just get DVD Region+CSS Free or buy a region free DVD player and get the US release.
15. Dunno if it's supposed to be a sequel or a Bubblegum Crisis 2040 style redo. No info. They just said they were making a new Megazone 23 and that Mikimoto would work on characters, which I assume means, as usual, Eve only. I realllllly doubt the Diezalg escaped, considering we see their ship totally nuked. Furthermore, what happened to BD? He and his posse just left in some Zahme/Wild Saus, right? Where were they going? If they went to earth, there's no sign of it in Megazone 23 III. Who knows. More importantly, though, there's a bunch of other Megazone ships out there in space, and that's probably a better place to look for a new source of enemies.
16. Sure, some up on my website: http://www.masterforce.org/bahamut/armoredgarland.jpg (never mind the name, I had no idea what it was until I learned kana, that's the Zero Zero with its extra equipment). Dunno, I'll have to watch it again. The FX-101 is pretty boned by then, so I doubt they were coming from there.
17. That would be nice, but I'm not holding my breath. Another thing with the Hargun is that it requires a truck full of extra parts to attach to transform. Seriously, it's like that in the anime. I'll buy whatever they sell, though.
18. You might be thinking of Skyquake, which is green, but has the look through the hole see a target gimmick. Skyquake was a UK exclusive later recolored as black and dark grey as Machine Wars Starscream with the eye gimmick removed, which was later again recolored blue as King Atlas in the TF Universe line. It's possible it was one of the other Predators, Skyquake's team, that you were thinking of. The Predator Skydive is actually purple: http://www.cliffbee.com/reviews/euroskydive.htm All the Predators have the gimmick with the scope as far as I know. Darkwing definitely does not have anything like that.
19. Yeah, AIC announced it and there's been absolutely no word since then. Well, hopefully it will happen eventually.
20. That rules, have you seen the TV commercial for the Machine Saurer toy? It's awesome, has this tokusatsu thing going on. If you want, I can rip it and upload it to my site.
21. I'll continue the game. I'm not going to bother with obscurity level, but I guarantee you some of these are from Japanese mecha video games, manga, and even tokusatsu. Penelope Lanstar of the Wind Alcedes Dsserd Junchoon Calamity Zahme Sau Poseidon Baldios Dira Noth Enjoy!
22. Asurada (OL-5) - Cyber Formula? D1 (OL-9) - no idea, hint? D7 (OL-10) - no idea, hint? Ishkick (OL- - Orguss Shaian (OL-9) - Dragon's Heaven? Soyukaze (OL-3) - Captain Tylor J9 Trilogy (oL-10) - Sasuraiger and company Melos no Youni (OL-10) - Uhm, Layzner? Tulcas (OL-3) - Dorvack Round Vernian (OL-2) - Votoms Shooting Star (OL-10) - uh... Shooting Star Gakuseiver? I'm a nerd.
23. I was always under the impression that they were launching from the Megazone 23 itself as a last resort since the fleet was being decimated by the Diezalg. P.S. I love the characers and story in Megazone 23. I think it's so cool that Shogo is our mecha piloting hero when he's a punk who works at McDonald's. How awesome is that? He works at McDonald's. And Yui was an amazing character for 80's anime. Strong, indepedent, sexually self-assured, and NOT a dasmel in distress? At no point does she need to be rescued. She decided to sleep with the sleazy producer and Shogo took it upon himself to stop her. And of course, Shogo's response is total overkill: he smashes a building his giant robot. I love that. Would Minmay do any of this? Heeeellll no. The other characters are largely throw away, I agree, but that's what happens when you chop back a full TV series to an OAV. I still love Shogo and Yui. They're just so different from the standard mecha show leads, especially 80's mecha shows. Practically every one has the kind whiney newbie pilot who manages to be really good, girls are usually either the frigid angry bitch type who the hero wins over despite initial friction, or totally useless wimp girl who everyone is in love with and needs rescuing (Misa and Minmay respectively.) And the whole Philip K. Dick-ish "the whole world is fake!" thing rules. BD doesn't get too much development, but I think he's cool anyway. It is kinda weird that part 2 has a totally different supporting cast, but hey, it works for me. I love Megazone, and Ishiguro Noboru's direction (part 1) is second to none. Macross, Megazone, Orguss, he rules. I would love more Megazone 23 mecha, but I doubt it'll happen. Call me a pessimist, but... I expect it will be like Escaflowne. So sad. Maybe we'll get a recolor/slight retool for the Proto-Garland, but that's probably the best we can hope for. I'd absolutely love the GR-002, though, or especially the Wild Sau or Zahme Sau. Anyhoo, I'm a huge Megazone fan, and I'm working on revamping my Megazone 23 site to incorporate all kinds of scans. I have something like 10 Megazone books now, so there's a lot to go through!
24. Copy the URL and paste it into your browser. I have hotlink protection due to a-holes on myspace raping my bandwidth by hotlinking images off my site.
25. You're misintrepreting me. I am not a rabid Macross fan who hates Robotech. I hate the RRG and their bullshit which people are constantly trying to pass off as reliable information. There are Robotech DVDs sitting next to my Macross DVDs, I have all of the Robotech novels, and a lot of the comics, and Robotech and Macross toys, blah blah. I take anything I can get, under either name. I just hate the RRG, and this goes back 10 years or more with Peter Walker's poo on the Robotech Mailing List. They make things up and people treat them like facts. It's got nothing to do with Robotech and everything to do with accuracy. Everyone calls the Sherfield (or Shrewfield) or however you want to romanize that in Southern Cross the Sylphid, which is totally wrong when you look at the kana. And they completely fabricate names (like Tou Salaam and Nous'dohl) and people use them. They can't even get Robotech right, when the go around referring to the Garland as Garland instead of MODAT 5, and then they use pre-production Megazone as imaginary variations and all this other crap. I don't hate Robotech, I hate the misinformation the RRG spreads about both it and its source material. Fans in the know spend a lot of their time explaining to less informed fans that the RRG is wrong and just fanfic.
