  1. I'm hoping that Super Ginrai in truck mode is mistransformed. Because even by the standards of Powermaster Prime(the original toy sets a fairly low bar to clear), that's dire.

I'm totally shocked if that's the best a "masterpiece" can do with those arms, but the hollow thighs sure imply that MPG continues to set the target low and then miss it anyways.

Are you referring to DYRL licensing outside of Japan?  Clearly, BW controls all licensing for DYRL within Japan (ex. BW sticker on all DYRL Bandai DX releases)...

Per @Seto Kaiba he says the "merch" rights still belong to HG outside of Japan....perhaps this is no longer the case?

To be more precise in my statement: International distribution rights for the film are what's been lost in the shuffle.

Not any japanese rights(clearly controlled by Big West), and not international merchandise rights(clearly sublicensed to HG from Tatsunoko).

I was also not sure on DYRL. Does hg hold a license on that or just that the likeness of characters and mecha are similar

Harmony Gold is actually one of the few places we're sure the DYRL distribution license ISN'T

The DYRL problem, as I understand it, is that it a whole bunch of bankruptcies and mergers happened after it was licensed. We know it WAS licensed, but no one's sure where the license wound up in the end or how long it was good for. There's a few companies that think they might have it, and everyone's waiting for someone else to make a move.

I always felt like the Kotobukiya kits were a bit overly complicated. Lots of little parts with tons of seams in awkward spots. Like a joint piece that had a seam that had to be covered by more parts with more seams that had another layer that had more seams with a little greebly thing that attached and also had seams

My understanding, as someone who has none, is that you are totally correct.

    I guess we'll find out, I ordered a Nineball.

Pretty sure it was just that HG didn't want to pay up for access to Animeigo's remastered/cleaned-up audio tracks... and they either figured audiences wouldn't care, or hoped that ADV Films would do the job just as well.

I suspect they either didn't know Animeigo would do an extensive remaster, or they were just too incompetent to include "transfer the remastered audio and video to us at the same time you deliver all unsold stock for us to repackage when we cut you out"

Collector = A person who can easily hide their collection of stuff if they need to or want to, via dedicated "display and/or storage areas" within their own home....

Hoarder = A person whose "collection" is displayed and/or stored in every space of their home because it is no longer possible for any part of their home to be deliberately free of their "collection"...

Both individuals have the same type of OCD...one is just more socially acceptable when people outside of their social network become aware of their "collection"...

Definitely a fine line between both, I think that when you go from "wanting" to collect to "needing" to collect...you have become a hoarder without realizing it...

Otaku Terminator is a lot more relatable than the regular one.

Meanwhile, the Walmart-exclusive Star Seekers are now the Star Raiders,

    Two thoughts:

    1. They probably want to avoid using "seekers" on anything other than Starscream and his repaints, given how the word has become very closely associated with that concept.

    2. Doesn't Atari(or current skinwearer thereof) have an active trademark for Star Raiders?

If you don't count the Battle-class attached to the latter... that was very much an offensive option.

In fairness, the Battle-class detaches from the Island-class for, ummm, battle.

I can think of reasons this would be a good idea, were it not depicted as so easy to travel between ships(like you can literally drive a car from one to the other).

And nobody knows if his laser rifles or light cycle butt-beams would work or not.  Nobody's checked what happens when a Program comes into the real world.

I mean, that's kind of the basic premise. They exist inside the computer, the laws of physics don't apply and the laws of video games reign instead.

Humans that enter the machine play by the rules of the digital world and gain superpowers, why would the opposite NOT be true?

They'd have to work VERY hard to sell me on "a 70s mainframe has the power to rewrite the laws of physics", and they really weren't trying to.

And the MCP would be terrifying in a modern networked environment.

Anyway, funny comment under bullet one about English dubs...

    How nostalgic!

Yeah, HG's official line was there won't be an english-dubbed release of Macross, because "we already have that, it's called Robotech".

That went out the window as soon as the Animeigo license expired and ADV got it. I genuinely believe they were trying to screw over Animeigo from the start.

I disagree about the "not well-written" part.  Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but I think the way it implies parts of its story without clubbing people over the head with it was a refreshing change.  It took me a few viewings to really appreciate some of what it was telling.

But the visuals and the oft-praised music are <CENSORED> awesome.  It's hard to pick a favourite scene because there are so many parts that individually enjoyable!

I mean, the best way to defeat CLU was to ignore him. LET him invade the real world, and be suddenly confused that his laser rifles and super powers don't work because he isn't inside the game.

Everything falls apart once you realize that.

I want this to be good.  I really, really want this to be good.  Tron: Legacy took a few viewings but it's become one of my favourite films ever.

I love to WATCH Tron Legacy. I don't think it is particularly well-written, but it is frickin' gorgeous.

(I was intensely disappointed that their interpretation of "inside the computer" adapted to the modern highly-networked "computers are everywhere" world by... ignoring it all and having them inside a mainframe with no outside data connection.)

At least on the PC the originals are still available.  I do not like the idea of more "Supa Killa" heroes.  They show up and knock down any normal character ruining a multiplayer match.  For a story mode game they are fine.

Easy solution: give all the players a free Kyle Katarn as the default. Like, folks will still play Darth Vader and whatnot, because zomg so kewl, but we all know who the real OP Star Wars character is.
