  1. Hi Everyone,

I hope everyone is enjoying their holiday and playing MAF. There has been some concern with a game glitch on MAF. It has happen to me on two ocassions. It warrants its own topic. The game freezes when you run the intro of a mission (in mine it is the first macross mission) and another is when you save and replay any one of your game missions (DRYL for me sadly). Later it will shut down your PSP. Somehow it might be related to a software glitch or continous skipping of mission intros. I have the original HK PSP player, it will affect on all PSP (new or old). When you save a new data, it does not have the glitch at least in the beginning. However, it might happen as you progress or replay missions over again.

Solution: The best thing is to skip the mission intro to prevent the glitch and shut down. There isn't much else unless there is a patch or something to fix it.

    Hope this helps.

I was wondering about that...if it happened on all PSPs or specific ones...or if it was just a bad disc. Thanks for the info.

  2. Seriously. I think I may have to go up a few diopters in power to my glasses. I still have not really noticed any of these "scanlines" in my gameplay. Not with God of War, or Ace frontier, nor Disgaea. Hell not even in Crisis Core. I only really notice them (and it's a some what notice) when watching video. :(

Hey...I'm stickler when it comes to this kind of thing. While I may not be able to see the difference between 1080p and 720p, I sure as hell can see the difference between progressive and interlaced. I just don't want to go out and spend $200 on one of these things...only to be distracted by these lines and not enjoy MAF. Is that unreasonable?

Edit: Thanks for your input on the whole scanline issue.

Edit #2: Someone suggested earlier that those of us looking to buy should find a place that will take items back - no questions asked. Some of those options have already been exhausted. :/

  3. Ahh, well i'm happy enough mate! See what deals pop up for ya, i really had no choice, psp 2000's were already on evilbay for twice the price playing of the screen complaints.

Still waiting or the hacks to rol in t get mine modded properly.

Are you noticing any "scanlines" when you play God of War? I'm curious on your thoughts about it all.

  4. lol i haven't played MAf yet, hope it isn't a common problem or i'll be handing mine back :p

So yeah Ohan, i did get a 3K! :p I tried to get a 2000 lite but there were none available!

You get yours yet?? overall i'm really happy with my psp, it's fun! Screen looks ok to me honestly.

Guess it's easier for me to swallow as i haven't had a 2000 before.

Oh and instead of Tekken, i got God of War instead, i like that much better, haven't had a chance to play it yet though.

Nice! Glad to hear you're happy with it. I haven't made the plunge yet. I just might have to pick up God of War and Tekken once I finally get a PSP. It's just a matter of time and I'll have one.

  5. I don't know....at the time, I too was wow'd by Nicholson's performance. But as many of you have stated, the times have changed. That's probably why I'm not as impressed as I was.

Max Jenius, I felt Ledger was pretty over-the-top and insane. Maybe it's just the screen writing, but the Joker kept upping the ante. There were a lot of sadistic jokes which I felt were over-the-top. The one guy getting hit by the bus...followed by the bus driver asking what happened to the rest of the guys...the pencil trick...the Joker telling Batman the wrong address in regards to Dawes and Dent...to list a few. Nicholson's Joker, to me, comes across more as a goofy jester than a sadistic jester. I guess if what I call goofy is what you consider over-the-top...then by all means Nicholson wins. Otherwise, I'd consider Ledger's Joker just as over-the-top as Nicholson's Joker.

  6. I was watching Batman the other day and I stopped half way through. I could not, for the likes of me, get myself to watch the rest. Like the rest of you...I feel Nicholson's Joker pales in comparison to Ledger's Joker. I think it was because of Ledger that I simply could not watch the rest of Batman. Batman now comes across to me as hokey in comparison to The Dark Knight. Does anyone else find Batman hard to watch after having seen The Dark Knight? ...I think I've seen The Dark Knight 4...5 more times since it came out on Blu-ray. ...Such a great movie.

  7. I've owned all three Playstations and have enjoyed each but I have to question why the online experience is considered inferior to X360 Live? Before some of you jump on the $50 dollars a year keeps the live service superior to PSN, ask yourself where does the proceeds from Qore go and where will all the profits from the microtransactions w/i Home go? In the end PS owners may be paying more than 50 a year to play online....

I don't want to jinx it but I really never had the problems some people claim while playing online...Socom, SSFIITHDR, FFXI on the PS2 all play fine.

I was totally turned off after buying the first episode of Qore....I was like "WTF did I give them money for this???" and then the Socom beta fiasco...whoa!

So I have mixed feelings about Home, I think as a Playstation community service it has good potential...but I can't justify paying RL $$$ for a digital sweatshirt plus if my wife found out I'd never hear the end of it!

I think it would be better if they incorporated trophy support as a form of currency in Home it would enhance the game's longevity and act as a stimulus to the game industry, as people might be willing to buy more games...that's just an idea.

To me, Live feels more intuitive than the PSN does. Finding demos, movies, and games to download/buy hasn't been a problem for me. However, trying to group up with a friend, to play a game, is just ludicrous on the PSN. That's been my experience anyway. Moreover, there's a lot more content on Live than there is on the PSN. Overall, Live just feels more polished than the PSN. I will say this much though, I do prefer the PS3's dashboard over the 360's.

  8. Which PS3 do you have? The PS3 no longer has backwards compatibility except for PS1 games. That was one of the deciding factors in why I went with a straight out Sony Blu Ray player instead of a PS3. But ultimately, having one game console these days is plenty for me. If I did have a PS3, I would definitely get the Resistance games, though pretty much any game that has appeared on both the 360 and PS3, I would pick the 360 versions of those games (Achievements!). I really think Sony should have stuck with the original 60GB PS3 from two years ago.

I have the MGS4 Bundle; I grabbed it before it was too late. If it weren't for the PSX/PS2 backwards compatibility...I would have never gotten a PS3.

  9. Your right, it is a big difference. I'm not sure, i actually could live with the scan lines.... i'll see what type of deals i can find for the 2K though.

I do like the fact that the microphone is included, and matte finish is extra nice....

Thanks very much for the link!!! Top find. :)

I probably will just go witht he 2K... i need to think this through some more.

Wait, I still like the idea of the microphone…. If I’m in an international airport, and I have no mobile coverage,

is this a good alternative? The internet is worldwide, mobile coverage ani't, and if it is it's expensive!

from bold - does that mean for MAF it'd suck?

You could always buy the mic/headset for it. :p As for MAF...I'm concerned about that too.

scanlines sucks basically... i bought PSP-1000 o_O im amazed cause thought it will be hard to get one. im happy cause i feel it wont break in half like when im holding my buddy's slim. if anyone plan to buy psp in near future avoid the ones with "G" on the sticker with barcode ... TA-88 mainboard there... >_< some say its modable but i dont belive it untill i see it by my own eyes :p

    Thanks for the heads-up! =)

  10. PS3 has always been a more polished, more capable machine. The no-games argument worked (kind-of) last year, but that's long since over. As far as Home, it's typical of Sony's modus operandi. They would rather take their time and get it right, despite the delay. This is a direct contrast to Microsoft, who releases when they know their hardware is a flawed design (see any of the RROD discussions), just so they can cash in on the market share.

As far as the online bit, I've always been a PC gamer but the PS3 has largely taken that over. One of these days, I'll get back to it, but if it's not free I'm not going to do it. It's the principle of the matter! Still loving SOCOM these days for the realism angle. But Warhawk when I'm not feeling realism.

It's usually flight sims and strategy/tactics games like the Total War that get me going on PC. We'll see if/when Battlefield 3 hits.

As for the whole no-games argument. It's not so much that there isn't any games...it's just that a lot of them, if not all of them, can be found on the 360. A lot of those that can be found on both systems seem to run better on the 360. Of all the friends I have here in Reno...only two others have a PS3; the rest all have a 360. There's just more incentive for me to pick up the 360 version of game, over the PS3 version, if I want to play online. Plus, it doesn't help that the PS3 has lost a lot of exclusive titles.

Don't get me wrong guys...as a PSX/PS2/Blu-ray player I love it. As for the free online play...it'd be nicer if it were easier to play with friends. When it comes to the PS3 games though (excluding FFXIII and Killzone 2)...I think I'll pass. A lot of the people I know here in town feel the same way. But again, I digress.

  11. Well can't really argue an opinion can I? ^_^ All I've got is anecdotal evidence when I say I don't have any problems connecting and group playing on PSN(wirelessly) with friends be it LittleBigPlanet, CoD4, Resistance, SF2HD, R6V or Mortal Kombat II. I do know one buddy who did have trouble going online with GoW2. He bought it the night of, activated a Gold membership, and it refused him access to GoW servers. Ended up playing Soul Calibur online instead and it was only a few days later that he was able to access GoW2 online.

Well, my friend invited me to play R2 with him. I got the little pop up at the top right...the message I guess...saying I got an invite. This being my first experience online with the PS3, I figured it might be something like the 360 with the XBox Guide button. So I pressed it and I got the PS3 menu...didn't see any option to accept. So I scrolled over to the message box, found the message and all it said is that I have a friend who wants to play. It didn't give me the option to accept or anything. So exit out of that, I'm back in the game. I scrolled right using the RB1/RB2 button, found his name, hit x or whatever button it is, selected "join game" and was told that I didn't have permission to. So I tried hosting a game and invited him; he had the exact same problem. The only way we could play together was for him to host and for me to do a search for his name and vice versa. It's freakin' ridiculous. I just wish it were a little more straight forward like it is with the 360. I shouldn't have to research online how to accept invites to games. Anyway...I digress. [/frustrated rant]

  12. Not really an apple to apple comparison.

Gears of War = Unreal Engine. Tweaked Unreal Engine looks awesome. It's on what, version 3.5 now?

Resistance (haven't played 2 yet) doesn't use UE and it's a new engine I believe. Looks pretty damned good for a new engine.

Gameplays different too. GoW starts you off with fricken Chainsaw guns. IMO it's an updated/more awesome version of UT but grittier and in 3rd person. Resistance starts off with more realistic WWII'ish weapons before you can grab the "Alien" weaponry. It's not as over the top macho destroy Rambo-type game that GoW is, not that either is bad it's just how they want to tell the story. Multiplayer GoW is kinda limited. 5x5 max? R2 is supposedly 60 or 30x30 according to wiki.

COD4 for PS3 looks really nice and from all reviews I've seen the 360 and PS3 versions look exactly the same. Comes down to what controller you like and which system your friends use.

Well, everything I've read has been touting the graphics of R2...and I'm simply not that impressed in comparison to CoD4 and GoW 1 & 2. I have no doubts that the PS3 version of CoD4 looks exactly the same as the 360 version...which is why I used it as an example. As for not comparing apples to apples...even tossing out GoW and going with CoD4 vs R2...or even Halo 3 for that matter...the gameplay in CoD4/Halo 3 is that much better in my opinion. As for the multiplayer...that's great and all that R2 supports up to 60 players, but it sucks when you're trying to group/party up with friends; it simply ISN'T intuitive.

  13. Would be nice to get some more reviews before i do though.

I'm going to go to my local EBG and ask em for a differet game deal instead of the Tekken, like a Streetfigher, or the Tiger Woods 09 game...

Ruskii, I think I'm gonna get the 2000. You may want to read this. It seems the 3000 "adds a tinge of yellow to neutral colors, most noticeably white tones." That right there is enough for me to go with the 2000.

  14. Sort of on-topic:

A lot of DVD's have still pic galleries where you use the "next" button on the remote to switch between pics. But they never seem to work when played on a PC--the PC never seems to recognize/realize there's another chapter/frame to "activate" and it either greys out the button, or clicking on the appropriate button does nothing. Anyone know of a DVD program on the PC that can work a "still image gallery"?

What programs have you used on your PC to watch DVDs? I've never had any problems with WinDVD before. You may want to try WinDVD if you haven't already.

  15. As someone else mentioned earlier in this thread or the old thread...once you upgrade it's hard to stop upgrading. Ever since I got my HDTV I've been wanting to expand upon my HD experience. I soon wanted to watch actual HD content and so I bought a PS3 for Blu-ray. Now after watching these movies in Blu-ray...the TV speakers just aren't enough anymore. I've searched this thread and the old one and have come up empty handed with two dead links. My budget is pretty small but somewhat flexible. Would someone please be kind enough to point me in the right direction for a HTIB? It'd be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

  16. To be honest, I haven't been all too impressed with the PS3. I have two games for it: Metal Gear Solid 4 and Resistance 2. I haven't played a whole lot of MGS4...but what I have played of R2...I haven't been all that impressed. The graphics aren't as good as GoW2 or CoD4 on my 360 (which is connected over component...unlike my PS3 via HDMI). The gameplay is alright...but again nothing like GoW and CoD. My first PSN experience was horrible; it was a pain in the ass to play one level of R2 with a friend. It simply isn't intuitive at all.

A lot of the games on the PS3 are also on the 360...so there's less incentive for me to pick up another title for it. The only other titles I'd even consider picking up for the PS3 would be Final Fantasy XIII and Killzone 2. Even though FFXIII is coming to the 360...a part of me thinks that it may play a little better on the PS3 than on the 360.

All in all, there are only two redeeming things going for the PS3 right now (in my opinion): the backwards compatibility and Blu-ray.

  17. Anyone played the batman PSP game? In australia, they got a 3000 PSP bundle with that game,

same price as another bundle with Tekken uhh, yeah the PSP Tekken game, which game should i go for?

    Graphics ok for tekken?

The majority of the of the reviews I've seen out there, for Tekken: DR, have been positive. I've always liked the Tekken series...I would pick up that bandle if I were dead set on a 3000. As for the Batman game, it has been getting average ratings.

  18. haha well seeing how you and I haven't played MAF yet and have the copy sitting at home gathering dust i'm sure together we can make

the killing blow with this decisive battle! :p :P

    Haha, here's hoping!

Like I said. Thats MHO. Others will more then likly disagree with me. Just do what I told my cousin to do. Buy a 3000. Test it out for week, to see if the scan lines bother you. If they do. Return it and get a 2000 model. Biggidy-bam!

Don't some places charge a restocking fee though? I'd rather not deal with that kind of hassel. I'm not a huge fan of dealing with lines and disgruntled employees either. I'd rather buy something once and be done with it.

Thanks for your opinion though on the 3000 and 2000. If we could only get a few more opinions, that'd be great!

    Edit: Grammar

  19. Hmm that's interesting.. Scan lines, are they really that noticeable, just trying to imagine what the fuss would be not having a PSP before.

Thanks for the info Oihan, hopefully the 3K is all ok, as i'd like to get a better screen.

    No problem. :)

wow... so 2K could be the go! I wonder about games though, like MAF, that would be the primary use...

It's starting to look that way. ...I'm not sure what I should most concerned about....duller gamut and noticeable ghosting...or more apparent scanlines and interlacing issues. :/ The color in pictures on the 3000 definitely look a lot better (more natural) than they do on the 2000.... It doesn't help either that I'm the indecisive type.
