I thought we weren't suppose to link to download sites? Have things changed?
-
I haven't watched this show, but I just want to know one thing: did they keep the bionic sound effect?
-
I rewatched about half of the show last year. Pretty well-animated for 80's TV standards. Doesn't have crap episodes like Macross does. I'm looking forward to the DVDs. Hopefully it will be the entire show without the cuts made for US TV, hopefully with Japanese audio, French audio, the Japanese and French OP and ED, as well as English stuff.
A tri-lingual DVD I would go for. I guess all we can do is wait & see.

Being French Canadian, this series has been available for a while in French only audio.
Though, at that price, it's a little hefty for me.
-
With Paul Dini on board and based on his track record with Batman TAS, this film suddenly has so much potential that I can't wait.
-
Which probably says something about his solid voice acting ability.
When I first watched the English Dub of Laputa: Castle in the Sky, I only recognized him near the end when his character got angry and started to sound a bit like the Joker.

Has anybody bought the Remastered Boston CD's for their first 2 albums: Boston & Don't Look Back? How do they compare to the older CD releases? Did Tom Shollz do a good job remastering them himself? I have their first album (the older release), and was thinking of ditching it if the remastered versions were worth it.

Galaxy Express 999? Sweet!

That cream should really be doing the opposite.

This is just a deluxe dvd version of DYRL using the High Definition masters they've made.
Apparently BV havn't announced any plans to port it over to HD or Blu-Ray so we can actually watch it in High Definition.
This is still good news. This new edition should be vastly superior to the original R2 release. I wonder what Hurin thinks about that?
-
I know its aways nice to have the original DVD's, gods know i'm a sucker for that myself, but surely it would be better to (ahem, cough) download them with decent fan subs than to pay $700 for the full set on import? I am settling for d/l dvd rips with fan subs until a decent sub version comes out (probably the 50th anniversary at this rate!).
With our luck, we'll have to wait until the series enters the Public Domain.

By their very nature, DVD's only deliver 480 horizontal lines of resolution. HD has either 720 or 1080. When they say that the DVD was encoded from HD masters, they don't mean that the picture you will see will be HD. That's just a gimmick to get you to buy the thing.
You're wondering if you need to buy higher end cables? If you have an upconverting DVD player, go for HDMI. The player will artificially enhance the image to give the appearance of HD, though it won't be as good as true HD.

Which is why a transforming SDF-1 Macross is likely to be the first thing axed for the movie. I have my doubts the script will even get the characters off-world. I can just see Space War I (another name ripe for "modification") taking place entirely on Earth.
I can tell you one thing that will be changed without doubt: there's no way Britai's Nupetiet-Vergnitzs Fleet Command Battleship ever makes it to the screen. No Hollywood studio is going to make a film with a giant phallus as the enemy space craft. Puritans in the US will see to it that visual never makes it to the big screen.
(Edited to remove really bad sex joke)

Somehow, I can just imagine how cheesy it's going to look when we see the Macross transform and use the Daedalus maneuver to destroy a ship. It may work in animation, but live action will just look silly.
"Daedalus Attack!"

Too bad. That angel actually looks menacing. Good luck Unit 01.
-
Oh you morbid person.
Not morbid, that's just when it grabbed my attention. I'm not to usually cheer on character deaths. In this case, it worked for me.
-
An HD of DYRL? Hurin must running for joy.
-
I couldn't believe a certain superhero died in the movie. Quite very pathetically too.
Actually, this was the turning point for me. I had no interest in this movie until this point, only after this did I start to like it.
-
I read the same thing on ANN. Are they doing this to make sure that the show's creators don't burn themselves out making a 50 eps series?
-
I just gotta ask, what is that show?
-
What's this alternate pilot included on the DVD you're talking about?
-
Yeah, we've heard the "grumbly UK crew" story before. They also didn't like some American showing up to sequelize their hit movie. But I had asssumed you were talking about the film-going public and their opinions, like the rest of us were. I never claimed to have some super insider info.
Technically, James Cameron is Canadian.

Here, here. Some things are better left to memory...
And some things are best left forgotten.

*laughing* maybe the queen could just set up shop at the bottom of the sea? She could make shark aliens, squid aliens, sword fish aliens, flying fish aliens, octopus aliens, a Little Nemo alien.
Somehow, I just have this feeling that Hollywood scriptwriters are looking up this thread and mining it for ideas for AVP3.
What Lead U 2 MW?

I was a ignorant RT fan at the RT.com boards. Some posters there kept talking about this place. I decided to take a look. Within 6 months, I had sold my RT DVDs and had bought the Animeigo Macross DVD's. The rest is history.
Long live MW (and Shawn & Graham)
