  1. Nice , at last some good quality pics , now we can see the detail more closely.

    I´m so getting the koenig

I really like Max Q-rau´s tan coloured copkit , I´m not sure if i´ll buy one at all given the lacks on Millia version.

  2. Damn , AT LAST this valk gets some recognition on this board ! B))

This is on my top 3 fav. valks together with the 5000 and the 0D.

It´s a dificult choiche since I reallhe sake of the bat just for tf the designs buty like both otroid mode I´ll choose the earlier rough version , the M3 version is just too skiny (though really nice ) looking for me.

  3. This showed up today. The video is fine and the subs are a mixed bag. I haven't seen the fansubbed version yet though. Pretty good episode. I was expecting a turd afetr some reading some comments.

That´s often the effect of bashing threads

  4. HOLY MOTHER OF ALL VALKS !!!

Gosh this toy turned even better than I expected , the barrels look perfect to me , and the lack of panel lines seem to be due to the photo quality (you can notice some in on or two of them).

Hopefully someone will make better decals for this baby later on case I´ll decal this baby down to the last corner of it.

Damn, I´m so gonna get this toy

  5. It still doesn't make any sense from any sort of realistic marketing standpoint. No offense to Crisp, but his points are a bit muddy.

1.-How can you check eBay to get pricing info on a toy you haven't released?

2.-What on Earth could the size of the box have to do with anything? If anything, we've only complained about Yamato's overly large boxes.

3.-And by your own point at the end, you're really implying more that the middle agents (those selling to the US market are the ones who mark it up, not Yamato itself, as they cannot make the profit of selling overseas since they can't ship there.

And since there are more than a few competing vendors selling these import toys in this market, if one of them overprices then the others will take the sale. Competition. Market. Capitalism.

    It's all very simple.

But those of you who really want to believe Yamato checks a foreign language website in areas they cannot legally export to to determine prices, feel free to go ahead and do it.

Just don't impose your beliefs on the rest of us. Continue being paranoid and odd on your own, please.

1.- I think he was reffering to similar products by the same or different company which were being sold on Ebay (like what happens with all kind of electronics , toys , etc)

2.- The size of the box DOES affect the final cost , just look at the 1/48 shipping rates from some etailers.

3.- DOh !, does it really matter WHO is overpricing the toy ? at the end someone in the line is doing it and it´s us who will buy it.

4.- Who cares if Yamato looks at this site , we all agree THEY won´t do much if we talk about prices , BUT THE MIDDLE-AGENTs DO !!

It doesn´t matter who overprice the toy , what does matter is that someone along the line between Yamato factory and us is able to come to this site and use as a parameter for what´s the highest price they can put on the toy and MAYBE after that selling us the toy with discounts after which the toy ends up at the same price they should´ve started with but we think we´re paying less when they´re actually making a profit.

  6. Pardon me , I didn´t notice you were doing their homework as well

Hardee har har. Look, aside from Keith's usual aversion to grown up discourse we were all having a nice little discussion here. And yet you decided to jump in and tell us how foolish we are to bother debating any of this. And while I'm at it, where would you suggest we take out Macross discussion. Robotech.com? The fact is that there's nothing wrong with this thread. We're all being civil, there's no bashing and it's on topic for this forum. If you still have a beef with this thread, there's a specific forum for your complaints. Otherwise, contribute to the thread or get out.

Viddy well my friend , it seems you somehow have taken my well intentoned ¨lets go back on topic¨ post as a ¨you´re an idiot I hate you for that now let´s get into a stupid mindless fight about how much youi hate me too¨ kinda post when it was onviously not.

I don´t see how discussing about Star wars is on topic but do what you want , you´re free.

I didn´t say discussing M7 was OT , I said Spirita or any M7 stuff wasn´t related to what M0 was all about.

  7. Hi guys,

I am working for a Toy-Company in Germany acting World-Wide, also US.

I thought I could get more value to this discussion! B))

Off course Yamato (and other Toy manufacturers) are not making their price by questioning the net, they are calculating production-, material- and developing costs (and lot others) into the price. Then they add their expected (standard) margine per product theme (eg. 50% on VF's or 75% Statutes).

Nevertheless they are also watching forums like these (and others) to get an idea what the max. price could be (talking about price structures on the market/also dependend on the size of the box!). We are doing this too - we even check e-bay constantly! Other toy companies are doing the same - promised!

So both parties are somehow right! The basic price (as sold in Japan) will always be on normal level, but all other prices (wholesellers, toy-shops outside Japan) will get the recommended retail price plus the value they can add out of surveys or the net itself.

I would also recommend not to post any prices so Yamato/Wholesellers do not have the advantage to know "how far they can go"!

God , at last someone with knowledge of this stuff said it.

    Thanks.

  8. Jesus Christ this thread is a complete joke , people going OT , other relating M0 to M7 stuff that´s not even nearly related with it , etc...

Come on guys , if you wanna do a debate on this things go somewhere else , we´ve been through this 10,000,000,000,000,000,000,001  times before.

Thanks a lot, Aegis. Hey...here's a suggestion: why don't you leave the moderating to the mods, or I'll ask you to go somewhere.

Pardon me , I didn´t notice you were doing their homework as well

  9. Graham, since Yamato isn't talking to you anymore can you dish on any info you may have on the YF-19 redesign? Or at least if it is cancelled. <_<

    Chris

it´s still too risky , he may be attacked by Yamato Yakuza crew for that even though he´s not under their protection anymore.

    Back on topic.

IMO , the reason behind making M0 is exactly to explain the nature of Protoculture intervention on earth and our relationship with them and Zentradis and all that stuff.

I´ll quote myself from another thread:

To all those who dissaprove the flying rocks elements have any of you ever noticed that the only rocks to fly when sara sings are those with printed glowing diagrams on it ?

and strangely enough we only see flying rocks in ¨religious spots¨ around the island and NOT in other places ?

Only a fool wouldn´t notice the conection there with protoculture technology

Those who see this elements as mistical are just as dumb as Mayan natives , sharing their perspective has to be one of the weirdest effects M0 has had with some fans , specially when Kawamori is actually pointing out how this so-called ¨mystical¨ elements are really Protoculture technology that the Mayans see as supernatural elements.

The Mayan islanders were genetically marked by the Protoculture , that mark is recognised by the remnants of the protoculture technology on Mayan and by the APHOS when their brain activity goes to HIGH (just watch the reaction of the APHOS body to the Mayans ceremony on Asuka, and of course the flying rocks).

Why does the rocks stop floating just as Sara concentration dissapears ? is it because she´s no longer emiting spirita ? Bullocks !

If it was a matter of spirita going into action then the effects would be greatly different (specially with the APHOS).

It´s just because the protoculture remnants are no longer reacting to Sara´s brain/cell activity , remember the blood sample Aries was looking at , the rocks would only fly as long as the cells had some activity. That to me is a sign of the Protoculture genetical intervention on humans and is exactly what is being indicated by Kawamori and Co.

Those who think this is some sort of M7 rehash on spirita and those who would hate this to be just that as just as blind as the other for being unable to see the strong connection M0 has with what SDF Macross tried to describe about the Protoculture.

  11. Shin almost begins to be likeable-- but I keep thinking they should have showed more of his joking nature earlier on.  Instead, he'd been plodding through the last 3 episodes as if he was dead inside.

But what if I argued that Shin had indeed been all dead inside, and that it was his contact with Sara over the past 4 episodes that have healed him? He tells Sara that she's been so busy healing everybody else that she hasn't healed herself....why not include Shin in there somewhere?

Guess that could be... but if it needs arguing for, rather than being made apparent in the narrative itself, then it points to something missing in the storytelling. It's pretty abrupt, either way-- Shin transformed from a vaguely annoying character without much personality or capacity for levity-- to someone much warmer and possessing an actual sense of humor. I would personally have preferred to see hints of these traits in pre-Sara and pre-Mao Shin, ie, joking more darkly and sarcastically with Edgar, or making the same sort of poignant observations about people around him, but through darker and more pessimistic eyes. Seems it'd make for more convincing development that way-- rather than transforming abruptly from "Every hates me, nobody likes me, you trust anyone and YOU DIE," Shin to love-happy-joking-sensitive-observant Shin.

What I mean is that it's obvious Sara's affected Shin and is responsible for his new outlook. Floating rocks and boobies do that. But the actual transformation isn't as compelling as it could have been-- Shin seems to have traded personalities with someone in the matter of a single episode, rather than simply seeing things differently now than from before.

    -Al

I think you're rather exaggerating Shin's personality early in the series, with a bend towards his unhappier side. We get to see the joking, smiling Shin from the first episode on. If anything, I'd argue that Shin seems manic-depressive in every episode. While he doesn't get as much character developement as he would in a full tv series, I've at least been impressed that they dropped the cold, emotionless anime-hero archetype fairly early into the first episode.

Exactly , if Shin was your common emotionless anime-hero archetype he wouldn´t have reactioned to Edgar absence or when they met in Asuka again.

The saddest thing of all is that Kawamori will have to come out with an explanation of the OVAs after they´re finished for the dumb fans.

  13. Hoooray , Congratulations Graham :);)

I don´t know who should I feel pity for , baby Jeffrey for being rised in a house where there´s 99.9% chances of being introduced to valkaholism , Graham for financing his son potential addiction or the toys themselves who will surelly get some rough play in the next 4-9 years ;):D:p

  14. Does anyone know why a VF-0 can't refuel with its gunpod mounted? That seemed contrived to me, but I'm willing to hear anybody's attempt at an in-story explanation.

Science vs. magic: while telekinesis is how people refer to it in sci-fi, and the underlying principles may be explained in different ways, it's still not "hard" SF since it's not based on real-world physics. Just saying "it's technology developed by the Protoculture" doesn't help much, although it may remove some of the "mystical/religious" feel which some dislike. Same goes for ESP, precognition, etc.

If I were to take a stab at firming up the science, I might try to make a connection to nanotechnology or quantum mechanics.

Anyway, I don't mind the drift into fantasy too much. Nor would I miss it if they left it out.

As if stoping a whole fleet of giant soldiers witna pop idol kinda pop star was ever HARD SF <_<

I´m an older fan too but many people here are just too utterly biased in favour of the original series intentionally ignoring all its flaws and throwing all kind of critics to the sequels for ruining their nostalgic moment. I can live without nostalgia , i love the original seies for what it is , not because it made me happy when i was 5 but because it´s great today (when summed to the sequels and makin one big image)

IMO if it wasn´t for M+ Macross or M0 Macross would simply not have much of a mature orientated plot, it would be just another 80´s space opera anime series.

SDF Macross wasn´t made for 28-35 year olds (like we´re now) in 1982 , it was made for kids , that´s why we all watched it ain´t it ? Whereas most (that means everything except 7) Macross sequels are orientated to today´s older fans , hence their content is much more consistent and serious than the original series , so why condem sequels for expanding and adding depth to the original plot when they´re much more adequate to our needs today ?

If there are flying rocks then let it be , the original show wasn´t any better in that department.

  15. I think I am going to give the scotch treatment to the armor if the crotch part keeps falling off...

    That sounded so wrong...

What...make it wear a skirt? (kilt)

    lol

i wouldn´t like to see THAT falling off :D:D:p

  16. Ok.... something here bothers me. I don't understand how people can have such a difficult time accepting floating rocks when they can accept a 3/4 mile tall hologram hypnotizing an entire city. Sharon Apple did equally fantastic things with just as little explination (ok, I can accept a Hologram program around the Macross itself, even if only installed for the concert... but a FREE ROAMING hologram? All across the city? Creating holograms out of simple glass? Capable of projecting itself INSIDE the cockpit of a fighter where no projector exists?)

Get real people.... despite it's technical roots, Macross is all about the fantastic. One of it's primary story hooks (one of the few things I agree with Keith on) is that it's about the power of music... and the energy that comes from within during said music.

Pure speculation on my part, BUT:

Sharon was able to manipulate simple coaxial wires to suspend and strangle Myung

Sara used latent mystic energy (I speculate to be anima spiritia) to levitate the rocks.

Both are equally impossible in the real world (at least as the average person defines it... one or both may exist in theory or whatever...) Yet somehow people have no problem with Sharon Apple, or her part in Macross plus.

............. I fail to see the real difference.   B))

    Ditto.

Even without taking into account all those things people fail to realise that everything in M0 such as the floating rocks have an explanatiion within the canon and the OVAs themselves.

The natives are decendant of the Protoculture or at the very least heavily altered humans (remember they were isolated for 1000s of years so their genes stayed pure hence the protoculture alterations stayed intact) so why couldn´t they manipulate rocks and such ?

Has anyone actually thought where the heck did the first anima spirita came from ? how did the PC know they could use spirita to affect the EVILs/protodeviln ? pure chance ? yeah right , in your dreams.

Did they came to earth JUST to make a bunch of poo-throwing monkeys walk on their two legs ?

Why did they ¨engineered¨ us to be capable of developing culture (paint , poetry , movies and.......MUSIC!!!!! ) after they made ¨culture-less¨ soldiers such as the Zentradis ?

THAT (hopefully) is where M0 is going to.
