  1. So , apart from Aquarion and Eureka 7 , what else you´ve seen this couple of months ?

I remember when we would talk about Yukikaze and FMP and whathaveyou so I decided it would be good idea to open a dedicated thread for new and upcoming anime series , since this IS the Other Anime and Science Fiction section.

Anyway , If I could talk of a good promising series recentely released is Basilisk - Koga Ninpo Cho - ; if I could resume it in one phrase it would be Ninja Scroll meets Naruto meets Kenshin/Samurai X , best of all it´s a GONZO production and the weird thing is : they got it RIGHT ! , can you believe that ? for once in their life they managed to take a good story ( the series is based off the Manga of same name) and merge it with their awesome animation. The OST is really nice and the whole show has a old school feel when anime was good.

    some pics :

Just realized there are no good space opera shows being aired lately.

It seems Full Metal Panic 2nd Raid is gonna be a decent sequel to FMP , I liked the humorous take of Fomofu but I was really missing the good old militaristic side of the original , what do you guys think ?

  2. finally got to see ep5 , better and lesss inmature-guided than the last one , although it felt shorter and I still feel like the important part of the plot is going nowhere , just introductory episodes still.

I think Kawamori should´ve set up the plot around the Atlantis period instead of all the reencarnated heroes that do nothing but loose against random monster of the week :(

All that said , this show is badass and I don´t mean solely the animation , the premise is really attractive , hopefully the plot goes darker and more serious than what we´ve seen so far. ;)

  3. Hope this wasn´t posted here before , I did a search and nothing came up so here it its.

    Link - Funny as hell

It´s an animation about Organic food and genetically altered food but using the star wars universer as the setting , really funny and cool looking. Check it out B))

    It´s actually cute , especially Tofu D2

  4. So this is licensed by Bandai, right? Is the first DVD out already or are you guys talking about fansubs? I'm itching to see this show after reading about it.

AFAIK no one has licensed E7 outside of Japan , so yes , we´re talking about subs.

  5. could a mod please delete this topic please , it´s clear no one has interest on posting the smallest of opinions here.

Whoa Aegis, take a chill pill there.

I guess not many people are posting as hardly anybody has watched it yet.

Renato did start a thread on this about a week ago as well, but only 5 people posted there. Just give it time.

    Graham

Sorry if I it came out as a complaint cause I actually wasn´t mad about no one posting just surprised since Eureka recieved a lot more positive expectations from people here than Aquarion did , considering its a BONES production and Kawamori is involved.

One thing I have to give E7 credits for is that so far , and excluding any similarities to Fooly Cooly´s setting/characters , Eureka 7 actually offers some original and fresh new storyline , meaning there are no angsty teen pilots, no religious plot devices , no senseless reasons for the protagonist to be piloting a mecha etc...

and most importantly : Itano-Circusesque missile fest escenes.

Also , for those complaining about Kawamori´s recent mecha designs resembling AC a bit TOO much , then you´ll be happy to hear the hory froating head actually put time into the designs and made them unique.

  6. I suppose no one gives a poo about this new BONES/Kawamori project <_<:(

I wasn´t expecting Aquarion to get more attention than Eureka 7 but whatever , people have tastes so...

could a mod please delete this topic please , it´s clear no one has interest on posting the smallest of opinions here.

    Cheers.

  7. So , long time i started a topic here

Right, I´ll go to the point then.

I just finnished whatching Eureka 7 and all I have to say is ...niiice , ok ok i have more than that but what can I say IT IS nice , here are my impressions listed down :

    - Nice mecha designs; Kawamori ginally has left his AC-style behind and he´s acomplished his job in making original designs at last; somehow the main mecha reminds me of the VF-19Kai , NO there are not clowny faced mechas here , it´s just the face has a similar ¨chin¨ IMO.

    - AWESOME animation ; you thought Itano Circus famous missile-fest was nice ? well expect the same kind of fluid vertiginous movements only this time it´s the mechas that do it. I have to say I was expecting to absolutely HATE all the surfing mecha thingy but it actually was cool :)

    - The chatacters ; mmm , the kid feels almost like Naota´s lost clone from Fooly Cooly/FLCL , in fact , almost all the introductory scenes felt like watching Fooly Coolyall over again :unsure:

The seeting : well , as I said it´s really similar to the one featured in FLCL but there seems to be a lot more of background story behind this world. Not much to tell from one episode.

The music : nothing spectacular really , the intro is decent but not catchy IMO.

So yes , Kawamori and BONES does make a good couple , and yes I DO whish bandai or someone else makes a toy line out of Eureka7

    post-26-1114732630_thumb.jpg

  8. I´m SOOOOOOOOOOOO getting this toys , at least a kawamori toy that´s getting all the Bandai love Macross never recieved ;)

I see Aquarion as the final synthesis between macross , escaflowne and arjuna , with the added bonus of being a combinig mecha show. You can argue every single anime out today resembles EVA , that´s what eva-haters and lovers alike whish to think , but Aquarion is definitively more akin to escaflowne but with a less femenine touch ( that was my impression from escaflowne seeing the protagonist was a female ).

Anyway , I´m really liking this series but it still lacks more substance let´s hope it gets deeper and darker as more episodes are released

  9. I just saw the preview trailer and I though it was good , somehow reminded me of Soutern Cross with the surfing mechas , which is cool anyway , the designs are a lot more original than Aquarion´s in the sence that they do not resemble AC as much as they do in SnA.

Just for the record before the first Ep. is out , Kawamori is just the mecha designer not the director so for those naysayers ( there´ll always be some of them ) do not bitch about Kawamori cliche direction. Not that this is the impression Eureka left me with cause in fact I felt it was awesome but there´s always people who take the chance to whine about everything even works of art.

  10. that reminds me, why is it that that the yf-21 always end up with a ripped out part.

Ex. 1 = entire right arm ripped out by isamu in batroid brawl.

Ex. 2 = right hand ripped out in 2nd battroid brawl on earth.

Is the yf-21 of cheap contruction or what?

    Because it serves the storyboards?

don´t forget Guld´s fight with the Ghost where it destroys all of the YF-21 limbs in the canyon dogfight.

  11. GBP.jpg

    GBP in color.

    Chris

Niiiice! In a dark color it doesn't look quite as bulky which is great!

I was actually thinking of doing the same thing the other day but haven't had time. Veterans from the old forums may recall this image I photoshopped back in the day when we first saw the prototype 1/60 sculpt. Old skool. :p

    Aahh the memories :);)

You´ve given me an idea for a future custom , thanks

  12. Guys , you´ve gotta stop mixing M7 stuff with Zero´s elements.

For once Kawamori finally realised M7 failure to attract old fans and now you´re trying to connect it somehow to sound energy and all that. Macross Zero is actually a departure from that and onto new themes , particularly globalization and enviromental stuff and more importantly human nature.

M7 was nothing but a merchandising scheme by Victor entertainment and Bandai to get profits out of falling Macross sales ( as I said earlier , this was a take it or leave it decision imposed in Kawamori by the sponsors of Macross Plus , he either made a M7 or didn´t get the money for Macross Plus ).

What reality are you living in? 7 was a huge success, no matter how much you think your dislike for it makes it a failure, it was still a huge success. Your version of history also seems somewhat skewed. It was Plus that Kawamori was forced to make, so he re-wrote his Advanced Valkyrie storyline to fit it. He was basically told that he couldn't do a new series until he did a Macross Project first. Apparently it piqued his interest, and 7 soon went into production too. But to try & argue that Zero is a departure from everything 7, when the entire storyline basically re-inforces everything that was introduced in 7 is just plain silly.

If you don't like 7, get over it, many did.

Keith , I DO like 7 , I´m just stating the fact that HERE on MW there are MANY MANY people that dislike it , production-wise it was a huge success , but in terms of appealing to older Macross fans it did not attract all of them. that was my point.

And no Macross Zero does not reinforce the magical supernatural side of Macross 7 , it shows that those things that APPEAR to be supernatural to humans are only part of evolution and technology but in the end the only true real superpower is LOVE not mystical mumbo jumbo not variable fighters.

And also , you´re wrong , go check the main MW site , Kawamori created the advanced valkyrie project long before ever thinking of Macross 7 , he approached the sponsors to get support for it but they told him that without an already famous franchise like the Macross name it would be useless so he accpeted to do it under the name of Macross ( and later some of the AV designs went into Escaflowne).

It wasn´t until later that the sponsors told him that they wanted him to do a TV series focused on modern japanese culture (J-pop , pacifism , rockstars , etc...) to appeal to a younger audience and he could get more support for Macross Plus ,so he accepted and M7 was born.

  13. Damn , it makes MUCH more sense now with the subs available.

Before I actually disliked the main character cause I thought it was a complete dumbass but now that I see what´s he saying I actually like him as a lead character.

I´m really liking this show now , hope it lives to the expectations.

Anyway, you´ve gotta see it this way , the plot of Zero demonstrate that neither Modern society nor Ancient culture is the final key for peace but actually love ( same as Aries words). This demonstrated by the fact that the UN anti-UN conflict only bought destruction and Sara´s beliefs only turned out to be false and her world was constructed over imaginary myths that were actually the doing of an ancient alien society.

All the mumbo jumbo talking Sara believed in was crap , it was meaningless , all her traditions were nothing but dumb human assumptions of what they though were giant birds-mans and turtles shells ( AFOS and Mayan island original mothership form ) based on their ignorant observations of ancient events and on the other hand all of the UN and anti-UN emprical knowledge and technology was nothing but meaningless crap as well.

Kaduns were not anything magical or supernatural like M7 fans like to put it ( it only seemed this way to natives due to their lack of modern culture ). In fact Kaduns , under very strict obvservations were always refered towards artifacts , being guns , radios , AFOS , valkyries , etc... they were not spirits or anything.

It´s like early humans when they discovered Fire , they though it was some form of magic or a even God , when after all it wa simply air in combustion. You get the idea , show a primitive man a photographic camera and he will think you´re stealing his soul, but it´s just a camera. Myth is only myth in the mind of the ignorant.

If you want to believe Macross Zero has unexplainable myths you´re just as dumb as Mayan natives.

At the end the only TRUE meaning to human life was not Sara´s or Shin´s beliefs but actually their love for each other , that was the only meaningful thing to human nature. Something the AFOS recognized at the end when Sara woke up to Shin´s presence ( the AFOS recognized armament as Kaduns hence all the misiles went straight for the armed SV-51s of Ivanov and Nora and the VF-0 add-ons and not to Shin´s unarmed valkyrie ).

This is demonstrated by the AFOS selective attack towards military artifacts/armament ( it could´ve very well have attacked the island or anything else ) and his questions to Sara about humans advances.

The APHOS decided to spare humans lives on earth only after he saw Sara´s love towards Shin but it was too late for that and the UN used the reaction missiles to destroy it. The AFOS/Sara realised it was useless to fight anymore and retired to deliver the human project results to the last known protoculture residence to the APHOS.

Fore the record , Sara did not use Songs to control the APHOS nor did songs have anything to do with Zero´s plot , songs were used just as a form of expresing feelings i.e. abnormal brainwave activies detectable by the APHOS , she could´ve been praying or painting or anything else , after all she didn´t use a song for the APHOS to stop attacking shin , she just talked in that scene. if Song was the only method then she should´ve to sing all the time. The APHOS just read the pilots mind , that´s all.

It was presented that way for two main reasons:

1.- it´s more dramatical and cool.

2.- Music is a main theme on Macross , an ending scene would be boring without it.

  15. I just finnished watching the Raw and I think I´m pleased , although I didn´t understand a sheet of what they said but as everyone has said the visuals a nice looking , whoever said they blended better than Zero´s is just nuts , really , the mechas not only have shinny colours unlike the VF-0 but the textures are totally plain colors.

Also the Vf-0 was supposed to have mechanical movements , that´s the good thing about zero´s animation.

back to topic though , I like the characters so far , particularly all the mythical background behind them , the mechas are nice , it´s like finally getting an anime with AC mechas (whish is good IMO).

on the other hand , it has some really overused cliches ( overused in the sence of anime in general , not within this series) like young untrained lads that can pilot the giant mechas without problem , having special attacks being yelled before performing them and enemy mechas appearing from nowhere.

You can call these the ¨Fixed parameters in anime¨ which serve the purpose of setting more deep variety within the plot by adding OTHER plot devices that differ from other similar series ( Macross:Gundam , EVA:Rahxephon , teletubies: Steven Segal )

in that sence , all the mythical background really works for me , I think I was right when I said this is the definitive Kawamori series where he can gather all the subtle themes from recent works and expand on them on a single production.

Aquarion has elements from Escaflowne , Macros Zero , Arjuna , Macross , etc...but now concetrated as one definitive work.

  16. I think he had an interest in Emiria, but when he found out she was Mylene's sister suddenly felt awkward.

I don't see why he would feel weird about that.

I agree (sorta forgot about that also). Thats the ONLY reason I didn't think that M7 was Kawamori's way of comming out.

maybe he still has a chance of doing so since Macross 7 wasn´t actually Kawamori´s personal work as he was doing Macross Plus at the time , he supervised M7 production from time to time (hence the results) but it wasn´t his idea to include or not Emiria. :p

  17. I can´t believe people can´t accept floating rocks in Macross Zero , which is explained clearly as an effect to the AFOS presence and alongside  no one critics the TV series for floating objects when the SDF-1 folds to space...that´s a seriously bias

I agree with eveything you said except the above tidbit. Floating rocks on earth can't be compared to the floating rocks in outer space. Just all around example because of you can suspend belief in since it's sort of based on the weightlessness in space altho being purely science fiction. The other you do have to be more willing to accept a technology beyond our own understanding. Some people just aren't willing to suspend any belief at all.

No , I was actually refering to the first fold made by the SDF-1 ON EARTH , look closely while it folds and you´ll see objects floating around the buble formed by the SDF-1 , that´s an effect of the fold produced by the SDF-1´s engines , just the same as it is seen in Macross Zero while the APHOS takes control of the Azuka´s engines and makes everything float. ( the azuka didn´t float like the SDF-1 but the APHOS did , and it used the Azuka´s engine to gather enough power to make everything float)

now , you could say how could sara make rocks float at the shrine , right ? ever noticed only the marked rocks floated around while nothing else did ? if she indeed had some kind of powers ( which I don´t think so) she could´ve made everything float , starting with water and vegetation around her , nut no , only the MARKED rocks floated.

Same happened when Shin and her were hostages of the anti-UN and the totem thing came around , it had marks on it and it was made of some red kind of ¨clay¨. I find this extremely familiar to the stuff Dolems were made of in Rahxephon.

Taking into acount the fact that the Mayan island was in fact a remnant (t sounds like a ship from the mayan legend ) from the Protoculture coming , it wouldn´t be strange that they used nanotechnology to produce an artificial enviroment in the island for humans to live in in which case these rocks could be very well artificial devices to control gravity at the protoculture´s will without in fact having ¨powers¨.

the rocks , just as the APHOS , could detect specific Protoculture brainwaves patterns and float in response to that.

  18. I honestly don't know what you were expecting to be so dissapointed. Macross has always been anti-war, & always had ambiguous endings,.

It IS Aries? I thought the subs botched that up because it sure sounded like Arisu to me, which would translate to Alice. We can argue on this for hours though.

Anyway, what was I expecting? Something Macross! Not some stupid supernatural crap. I love supernatural stories, but it does not belong in the Macross world. This would have made a better Arjuna story. Not to mention I couldn't help but think of the girl from RahXephon every time I saw Mao.

Anyway, like I said, visually and musically, this was one hot series. Not as good as Gankutsuou in that department, but certain up there as one of the best.

Unfortunately, even the visuals cannot save this series from its dumb plot, if you can call it that. From pretty worthless characters to a bad plot killed the whole thing for me. I understand you need to make new characters, but no one was allowed to develop enough. Shinn had devloped somewhat, but not enough to make me care about him when he disappeared. Same went for Sara. And then those two villian dudes were bland and I found myself cheering when Alice/Aries died. I constantly kept looking at the running time of each episode to see how long it had left to go because I was bored.

I usually do not compare things, but comparing the Mayan themes used in this and RahXephon, RahXephon just totally creams Zero in everything but animation.

    Enough ranting though.

I´m sorry your misinformed presumptions lead you to believe Macross Zero was a rehash of SDF Macross , cause it WAS NOT.

Perhaps if you checked this site more often when Macross Zero was first announced and Kawamori formaly presented it in various interviews you would know the background facts leading to Macross Zero´s plot.

First of all , Kawamori said from the begining that Macross Zero was not going to be just a prelude to SW1 but actually a glimpse at the Protoculture´s role in humans fate.

It wasn´t intended to show the ¨missing parts¨ of SDF Macross , but to present a brand new story. If you expected a direct prequel to Macross then you just fooled yourself.

If you didn´t like what was shown in M0 then you should really re-watch the TV series again since most of its basis is there.

I can´t believe people can´t accept floating rocks in Macross Zero , which is explained clearly as an effect to the AFOS presence and alongside no one critics the TV series for floating objects when the SDF-1 folds to space...that´s a seriously bias

Did you seriously expect the protoculture to be lame humans beings with no special skills ? do you forget they had millions of years of evolution , they made the Zentradis , Zolans and Humans without hassle , they travelled through the whole galaxy (or universe ) ,etc... And you foolishly didn´t expect supernatural elements ?

I´ve seen a trend from macross fans ( particularly those detractors of newer series ) in which they do nothing but plead for a Macross rehash , is these a Gundam fan derived sindrome or do they not watch other anime ?
